Scottish Borders Cottages
Please find below a selection of self catering holiday cottages
to rent in the Scottish Borders.
Immerse yourself in rural Scotland and try a Scottish Borders
cottage holiday.
Sweeping moors, gentle hills, peaceful valleys and extensive
plains; not to mention the rugged Berwickshire coastline - the
contrasting landscapes of the Scottish Borders happily sit side by
side. And as you might expect, this is a fantastic place for
enjoying the 'Great Outdoors'.
For walkers, over 1500 miles of paths and trails thread through
the countryside. Areas worth a mention include in and around the
River Tweed, Liddesdale, Teviotdale and the hills of Moorfoot and
Lammermuir - the latter an incredible sight come autumn when
displays of heather flush deep purple.
Cycling, too, is a great way to explore the Borders, with lots
of suitable off-road trails for beginners and adrenalin-pumping
downhill tracks for the avid mountain biker.
Like horses? Whether it's active participation or the fun of
spectating, this is a great equestrian centre. Horse riding
highlights include the 57-mile Buccleuch Country Ride, while
point-to-point, national hunt and horse trials all appear on the
calendar. Another spectator sport not-to-be-missed is rugby and
there's a team in every main town.
More mellow pursuits include freshwater and sea fishing, as well
as golf. Top class 18-hole courses include Eyemouth whose fairways
unfurl to the sea and Cardrona, affectionately known as
'Gleneagles of the south'.
Those keen to delve into the mysterious past will find a
dramatic and often turbulent history has left a trail of castles,
abbeys, mansions and ruins scattered across the region.
Wherever your interests lie, a Scottish Borders cottage holiday
will more than meet your expectations.
