We spent an absolutely wonderful two weeks at Turret Cottage. The weather was exceptional, and the cottage was clean, comfortable, well-equipped and located in a lovely village. The cottage also had an enclosed garden shared with the owner, and which was perfect for our two small Llasa/Yorkie crosses. The owner Louise welcomed us with a homemade (and very tasty) cake which was a nice touch, and was on hand if needed for advice and tips on best places to visit, eat, etc. She couldn't have done more to ensure we had a great holiday in the Peak District. The village itself boasts 3 good pubs, with "The Farmyard" being our favourite for food, although "The George" is also very good value (recommend the Fish and Chips and the Beef Carvery). There is also a shop/Deli three doors up from the cottage, our personal recommendations from there being the Pork Pies, the Dry Cure Bacon and the Coconut 'n' Raspberry slices, all of which are excellent. There's no shortage of places to see and visit, and other than the must-sees of Chatsworth House, Lyme Park ("Pemberley" in TV's "Pride and Prejudice") and the town of Bakewell, we enjoyed Ilam Park (NT property), walks around Alsopefield and Milldale, and the reservoirs in the Upper Derwent (where the Dambusters squadron trained for their mission). It was our first holiday in the Peak District, and we will definitely be returning!
