Hartington Cottages
Hartington nestles in the Manifold Valley at the heart of the
White Peak, a region of rolling dales, dry-stone walls and
picturesque, limestone villages.
Find your bearings with a wander around the village. Look out
for the pretty stone cottages around the square, the old village
pump, a fine Norman church, The Charles Cotton Hotel (named after a
successful businessman and co-author of 'The Compleat Angler)
and the splendid Jacobean Youth Hostel, Hartington Hall - its
restaurant has won awards and the bar stocks a good choice of local
ales.
Cycling and lots more from your Hartington cottage!
Hire a bike for fresh air and exercise! The Tissington Trail
runs close by, offering seventeen miles of traffic-free cycling for
all the family. It's also popular with walkers and horse
riders, forming part of the Pennine Bridleway. The High Peak Trail
and Manifold Valley Trail are also on your Hartington cottage
doorstep, so you can enjoy a different walk, ride or cycle every
day of your stay!
Enjoy riverside rambles along the River Dove, passing through
Beresford Dale, Wolfscote Dale and eventually on to Dovedale.
Protected by the National Trust, Dovedale is one of the prettiest
spots in the Peak District,
renowned for its dramatic limestone ravine and iconic stepping
stones across the river.
Hartington's pubs, cafés and shops, including the
charming Old Cheese Shop in the village square, attract lots of
visitors by day. Evenings, meanwhile, are a much quieter affair -
perhaps a night on the sofa in your lovely Hartington
cottage or a pint down at the local. Cheers!
