"Penny Corner is perfectly situated to explore the beautiful Jurassic coastline, peppered with ancient monuments, stately homes and idyllic landscaped gardens."
The property was warm and welcoming with a gift of fresh eggs from the adjoining Pound House and some treats for our dog. Comfortably furnished and well lit we had the perfect place to start and finish each day’s exploration.
Driveway parking allows for online grocery shopping to be delivered and with the excellent locally run Five Bells public house next door for a quick pint or some home cooked fare, you are well catered for. Incidentally there is no noise to be heard other than birdsong or church bells which makes for a relaxing stay.
Totally recommend Penny Corner as a place to relax and explore Dorset’s beautiful beaches and history and our host who ensured our stay was comfortable and welcoming.
Thank you for this excellent in detail review. We endeavour to make your holiday stay as enjoyable as possible especially during the winter months.

Lovely peaceful stay
Good location for dog walks and very interesting history at the church
The property was very clean but slightly dated
Even with the WiFi a smart tv would be an improvement
Excellent place to get away from it all with the added bonus of a pub serving great food next door, don’t let this put you off as no noise was heard at all during our full week stay
We would recommend this property and hope to return
Thanks for such a lovely review and we hope to see you again when the weather is better!

"Penny Corner absolutely lived up to expectations in every way , spotlessly clean , bedding and towels supplied , lovely and warm on arrival in fact we had to turn the thermostat down , nice touch by the owner to leave 6 new laid eggs from his own chickens , only drawback for us was the garden is not enclosed and with our 3 cavashon girly dogs they had to be on lead at all times when going out in the morning and last thing at night ."
if its peace and quiet your after , even with a pub right next door this is the ideal get away .thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Thank you for such a lovely review and we would like to see you again in the summer in better weather and you won’t need the central heating!

"The accommodation was compact but accurate in its description and clean and I had everything I needed."
There were several welcome sets if I wanted to use them. I was fully aware of any issues previously raised so took things with me to address these. The bed was excellent and very comfortable. The hosts were very warm and welcoming and left me some fresh eggs from their chickens which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks Penny Corner.
Thanks for taking the time to give us such a good review and we are pleased you found everything to be as described in the property details.

The property was really well equipped, nice touches with dog towels and biscuits! With fresh eggs left for us.
We would recommend staying in this property, having the pub next door was a real bonus, food was delicious.
Thank you for such a lovely review and it’s nice to know our “nice touches” were appreciated.

"Lovely stay in this good accommodation."
Owners were welcoming and kind. Quiet and peaceful location. Pub next door which served very good food ... (you need to book for a delicious Sunday roast!). Local church had an interesting history and well worth a visit. Good location for days out ... Charmouth, Lyme Regis and Bridport close by.

"The cottage is set within a lovely little village with a great pub literally next door ( the five bells) that serves great food at very reasonable prices , we loved our stay over the three days , very peaceful and quiet even though the pub is next door , the only downside is if you want to let your dog outside for any reason on their own there is no enclosure , just a little picket fence would suffice to stop the dog roaming the owners property ( which is attached) then onto the driveway which leads to the road , for this reason we won’t be returning even though it’s a lovely place to stay."
Thanks for your valued feedback. We are sorry that Penny Corner does not have a garden where you can let your dog out and we are now looking at ways in which we can make it more secure.

"Penny corner cottage is a lovely compact cottage with everything we needed."
The small patio area was lovely for sitting out in the evening sun. Whitchurch Canonicorum is a lovely village close to Charmouth for fossil hunting on the beach. The cottage is next to the 5 Bells pub serving good beer and meals. Lovely stay
Thank you for devoting your time to give us such a lovely review, we are very appreciative.

"Comfortable living room, chairs and setter good, but dining table a little awkward."
Comfortable bed, we used our own duvet and pillows as we usually do, excellent shower.
Suggest a pair of kitchen scissors - some packaging of meat and fish required dangerous use of a sharp blade to open.
Lovely quiet location, good walk to church for a small dog. Pub did not impinge on quiet evenings, but a bit disappointed in the food.
Generally a good stay.

"Of all the properties we’ve stayed in booked through Sykes this is the first one that didn’t have a Welcome Pack (sachets of tea and coffee- sometimes biscuits plus either milk sachets or milk in the fridge) thank goodness we had our own as nearest shop a couple of miles away."
There was a full dirty laundry bag left on the floor in the middle of the bedroom. Just little things but really let the property down.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We value your input and are sorry to hear that your stay didn’t meet your expectations in a couple of areas.
We understand how nice it is to have a small Welcome Pack to start your stay, and we apologise for the absence of that during your visit. While we don’t typically provide these packs, we always aim to ensure our guests are comfortable and have everything they need. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and will certainly consider it for the future.
We also apologise for the laundry bag being left in the bedroom. This is certainly not the standard of cleanliness we strive for, and we’ll be addressing this with our housekeeping team.
However, we do hope you had a pleasant stay overall. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and we are committed to making every guest’s experience better.

"The property is an adequate base to relax in a lovely quiet part of Dorset."
The positives were the recliner chair in the lounge, decent shower, property is warm and lots of natural light upstairs with excellent views. Kitchen was well equipped and towels and bed linen good quality. We took our two small dogs who were only allowed on the floor of the downstairs living area which we didn't know until we arrived. The property details said up to 3 dogs welcome, but sadly it didn't feel like that when we read the rules on arrival. The bed is described as king size however it is only a double measuring 4ft 6in. We found sleeping difficult as we are used to a much larger bed at home.
On arrival a bag of dirty bed linen and towels had been left just inside the front door. The neighbour next door who we guessed was maybe the owner agreed to remove and put in their shed, but it was still an unpleasant start to our mini break.
Cleanliness of the property was a basic level. I found evidence of dust, cobwebs and grime in some areas and the furniture had clearly not been moved to thoroughly vacuum underneath. The worst thing I found was when I emptied the kitchen waste bin and it had food waste and filth at the bottom and had clearly not been cleaned or disinfected for weeks.
Finally, maintenance was basic. The light in the kitchen only had one bulb working out of 3, the cooker door didn't close completely, the hoover wouldn't suck when I tried to use the tools and the non-stick frying pans had damage to their surfaces.
Despite the disappointments we enjoyed our visit to the area but won't be booking this accommodation again.
Thank you for your review. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and are grateful that you took the time to share your thoughts with us.
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the natural light, lovely views, and some of the property’s features like the recliner chair and well-equipped kitchen. We do our best to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment, and it’s great to know that those aspects of your stay were enjoyable.
We’re sorry to hear that there were a number of things that impacted your experience. The points you’ve raised are certainly concerning, and we apologise for any discomfort this caused. Please rest assured that we are addressing these issues with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure a better experience for future guests.
Regarding the bed size and the dog policy, we’re sorry for the confusion. We request that dogs stay downstairs to ensure pets are not on the beds, as we find this helps maintain the comfort of the property for all guests. We understand that these details are important for your stay and will review the information in our listing to make sure it’s clearer in the future.
We value all guest feedback as it helps us improve, and we are committed to making the necessary changes to provide a more comfortable and enjoyable experience. We truly hope that despite the challenges, you were able to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful area.

We didn’t have any problems during our stay.we had everything we needed.
The village was very peaceful and nice to be able to pop into the pub for a meal with our dogs and despite the February weather we were able to explore local walks and the interesting church in the village.
A lovely place to unwind - thank you.
