Sailing enthusiasts flock to the Firth of Clyde's sheltered waters, while walkers and cyclists head for the impressive granite mountains. And do hop across to the Isle of Arran, a tiny version of Scotland showcasing a mesmerising choice of activities.

Dumfries and Galloway is a truly unspoilt corner of Scotland fringed with deserted beaches - sands where Burns once galloped on horseback; where whisky smugglers came ashore.
