Riverside Herb Centre, Hathersage

Riverside Herb Centre is a fantastic place to enjoy a warm drink, delicious lunch and a slice of homemade cake. It’s a great choice for nature lovers as it’s also a garden centre and hast a vast array of plants, herbs, bird feeders (which attract buzzards, sparrowhawks and many other fascinating birds), plus they even have their own gift shop. It’s a great choice to spend an afternoon and you can do so much more than have a spot of lunch. The food, however, is fantastic, with hearty portions of colourful, tasty and attractive food served. The menu offers a range of dishes, including a dressed crab salad, homemade soup, chicken curry, a selection of homemade scones and delicious cakes.


No.6 The Square, Buxton

No.6 is in a fantastic location in the centre of Buxton, opposite the wonderful Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. The gardens are a great place for a scenic afternoon stroll, with No.6 providing the perfect resting point to enjoy a light lunch, drinks or afternoon tea. Choose from light meals such as homemade soup, cheese platters and quiche of the day, plus there’s a selection of bakery options, sandwiches, Paninis and afternoon tea, which is priced at £14 per person or £26 for two people.


Bakewell Pudding Shop, Bakewell

When in Bakewell, you must try a Bakewell tart! And what better place than the original Bakewell Pudding Shop? They have been selling the iconic dessert since 1865 and even offer a pudding making experience for customers to make them too. Dine in the restaurant and enjoy a selection of fantastic afternoon tea options, both savoury and sweet, as well as a variety of breakfast dishes, sandwiches, light bites, baked treats and a good kids menu. Choose a Bakewell pudding to share for £11 or a Bakewell tart for two for £7. Alternatively, dine in the Courtyard and choose from a smaller menu available at the coffee counter, which includes Paninis, toasties, sandwiches and homemade cake.


Hassop Station Cafe, Hassop

This café can be found along the Monsal Trail, which is extremely popular with walkers and cyclists. It makes for the perfect scenic pit stop to refuel and re-energise. The café can be found inside the old railway station and has several indoor and outdoor seating areas. Sit outside to enjoy incredible rural views, or sink into a comfy sofa if you’re exhausted from a long day’s walk. The extensive menu includes breakfast, lunches and desserts. You can choose from toasted bagels, jacket potatoes, sandwiches, salads, platters, specialities and more. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, cream tea is priced at just £5.75 per person, plus there’s a range of cakes available for a range of dietary requirements.


Cafe in the Park, Matlock

As its name would suggest, this café can be found inside the grounds of Hall Leys Park. The park has been open to the public for over 100 years and was originally opened to celebrate George V’s coronation. The café offers breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and hot and cold beverages. You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors, where you can enjoy the pretty views of the surrounding park. Choose from wraps, jacket potatoes, sandwiches, cakes and more. Afternoon tea consists of sandwiches, cakes, scones with clotted cream and tea/coffee for two for just £14.50. Breakfast is served from 9.30am-11.30am; lunch is available from 11.30am-5.00pm. They also host a themed bistro night once a month, where you are able to bring your own wine for a small corkage fee.


Woodlands Tea Room, Charlesworth

The Woodlands Tea Room has been open since 2004 and serves freshly prepared, cooked to order dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Enjoy the views from the property of the accompanying gardens, as well as the nearby Coombes Rocks. Choose from warm meals such as mushroom risotto, omelette and grilled fillet of seabass, as well as a selection of sandwiches served on home-baked ciabatta and hot toasted Paninis with a choice of fillings. Afternoon tea is also available for just £13.50 and includes a selection of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, homemade cake and tea or coffee.


Village Green Cafe, Eyam

The Village Green Café is the perfect spot for families to enjoy freshly-baked cakes and tarts, with plenty to keep little ones entertained, such as toys and colouring books. They are dog friendly too, so even your four-legged friends are welcome. The café is located in the village of Eyam, a great destination for a day out. You can spend the day exploring Eyam Hall and Craft Centre, Eyam Museum and embarking on some lovely walks. Stop off at the Village Green Café and enjoy their fair trade, organic coffee and freshly cooked, tasty breakfasts and lunches, plus afternoon tea and even the option to takeaway. There are gluten free and vegetarian options, plus soya milk is available as a dairy free alternative to cow’s milk.  Enjoy dishes such as smashed avocado and poached eggs on toast, a selection of toasted and cold sandwiches, jacket potatoes and homemade soup. There is also a great children’s menu with a great range of dishes to choose from. Breakfast is served daily until 11.30am; lunch is served until 3.15pm.
