  • "Lovely property in great location for shops and restaurants only 10mins walk."

10mins to Bowes museum which is fab. Inside property quality fittings and decoration. Nice to have a garden busy road nearby so there is traffic noise outside. I would highly recommend this property.

. really poor mattress on all the beds.. and the sofa wasn’t very comfortable and really low down.. sounds minor but when you have been out all day you want to relax and get a good nights sleep ..

  • "We loved the place, great value for money and we'll be back!"

Only minor feedback is that the instructions for directions could be clearer. Took us a while to find it. Maybe mention in the pre-check in email that access is via the hospital?

  • "The house is spotlessly clean and well kitted out with kitchen items and towels."

The beds were comfortable. The welcome pack was indeed welcome. The only criticism is because we are an older couple with dodgy knees and hips: the sofa is very low which can, in our situation, be quite an issue. Younger or more flexible people would have no complaints staying at the property. Directions to the property could be better. To access the parking in front of the house you have to locate the entrance to the Richardson Community Hospital on Victoria Rd, drive through the car park onto Claire House Way.

  • "Quiet though convenient location for the town centre."

Property in very good condition and the garden caught the afternoon sun, however the coffee table was way too large for the living area and there were no spirit tumblers or pint glasses. I personally found the pillows and duvet quite poor, otherwise it was well equipped.

  • "Fabulous home in Barnard Castle, furnished and decorated to a high standard with everything that you need including dishwasher and washing machine and tumble drier."

Clean and very close to the center of town for the many bars, restaurants and cafes. Parking for 2 cars in the drive. Enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. Note that dogs are not allowed upstairs but this wasn't an issue for us at all. We are a family of 4, 2 kids and a dog. Property is quiet and comfortable and would highly recommend.

Beds comfortable. Only negatives : sofa was too low for us (middle aged couple with stiff knee s!) ; boiler label indicates it hasn't been serviced for several years.

It was cosy, well equipped, had everything we needed. The garden was perfect and safe for our little dog. Property was comfortable, quiet spot but 5 mins from the main high street. Will definitely stay again and recommend. Thank you.

  • "Even the Premier Inn provide hand soap!"

Difficulty of stairs should have been mentioned in description. We had a real performance to guarantee that the toilet seat had been fixed before arrival. Furniture needs updating or replacing, springs coming through king sized mattress and dining chairs. Bedside tables only low boxes. Sofa too wide and low, cushions too soft. Nowhere comfortable to sit. Equipment not working e.g. radio and hoover. Claims to be dog friendly, many notices up prove not so. Items provided such as washing up liquid, loo roll, washing liquid etc.very cheap. No extras such as cling film or foil. Food from previous guests left in cupboard. Only one hand towel per floor and only one tea towel. Overall felt very cheap, which is a shame because it is a beautiful property in a fantastic location. The finishing touches let it down. It felt like the owners were just trying to make as much money as they could out of you. We do appreciate that it is a business, but there was a distinct lack of customer service.

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that you weren't fully satisfied. This is very surprising, as 1 Claire House Way is one of our most popular properties in the Barnard Castle area; and we receive fantastic reviews overall. Regarding items not available in the property, it is a self-catering cottage, therefore the owners are not at liberty to provide such things as cling film, etc. Guests are expected to bring their owner provisions for their stay. furnishings and soft furnishings are all subjective, we are sorry these weren't to your taste. There are a couple of signs politely asking guests not to allow pets upstairs or on furniture. We advised the owners to provide these as not all their guests will be pet owners and they have to be more mindful of them. In terms of the hand towels, the cleaning company should have left more however if you had contacted us or the owner they could have supplied more. We are sorry that this property proved not to be the correct one for you. Property Owner

Sadly, let down by the overall cleanliness (toilet dirty, floors still with dog hair, beds not made and more) and not being ready for our check in time. Owners very helpful when first notified and some things rectified. However, follow up text to owners not responded to, leaving us to contact Sykes, which was disappointing. There is a washing machine available which is missing from the listing.

The property is one of best that we have stayed in, very well equipped, warm, quiet, with high quality fittings and finishings. Parking & location are very good. Leisure facilities close by. Lovely enclosed private garden. A few little touches would enhance the property further, a non slip shower mat along with a soap dish & a little more support in the lounge furniture. About the location

BARNARD CASTLE

Staindrop 6 miles; Richmond 13 miles; Darlington 16 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
