  • "Cottage is very quiet, warm and cosy, beds nice and comfortable, big lounge with big comfy sofas to relax on after a day on the beach."

A red squirrel visited the garden early most mornings which was lovely to see. Kitchen has everything you need. House was nice and clean on our arrival. Only things i would mention are the outdoor picnic table needs a good clean or replacing as we would normally breakfast outside as we had an amazing week weatherwise but it is covered in green from the surrounding trees and the downstairs bathroom could do with refresh but overall great value and we would definitely book the cottage again. • "The double bed was extremely comfortable and pillows and duvet were soft and like sleeping in a cloud."

Best sleep in a long time. Faulty window in double bedroom hinging mechanism broken note attached ( do not open ) Kitchen well fitted out with dishwasher and washing machine very large fridge freezer. Sitting room extremely comfortable and large TV. The only thing that let it down was the bathroom located on the ground floor and required some updating. Broken toilet roll holder, rusty radiator and trim to bottom edge of shower screen was missing and had to adjust water temperature by use of bath taps, extremely hot water so risk off scalding. Decoration poor to bathroom walls, timber panels to doors generally were opening up through shrinkage. Food left in freezer, fridge and cupboard by previous guests. Cottage lacked general information on waste collection days had to Google also no instructions on what waste went in what bins, there were 3 plastic boxes on a trolley and a large wheelie bin. Instructions on bins indistinct. No laundry sack so had to pile bedding and towels on floor by washer. The linings of the curtains in the bedroom were disintegrating and left bits on the carpet when closed. I would not expect to find the issues noted in a holiday cottage at the price charged but having said all that we were very comfortable slept well and it was in a lovely rural position with sheep grazing in the field next to the garden. Guests with young children should note that the garden area is not secure and there is a lake diagonally across the lane which is not fenced. If the issues were addressed then I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

  • "Lovely cottage."

Quiet location and really comfortable. Great location to get into surroundings areas and Holyhead/country park some super local beaches (Traeth Borth Wen and Porth Dafarch were our favourites). Had all of the amenities that you’d need for your stay. We arrived to some delicious bara brith. There wasn’t any tea and coffee which would have been nice (we’ve left some for the next guests). There was also no salt in the shaker and we’d not except to have to buy things like that. I agree that it could do with a lick of paint/touching up in a few places on the decoration side, bits it’s mainly cosmetic. A previous reviewer commented on the shower head, it was good for us so I think it has recently been replaced. We would recommend and certainly we will be back. Check out time of 9am (given we couldn’t check in until 5pm) we feel is a little early, especially with a 11 month old.

  • "We had a wonderful week away."

Unfortunately we could not stay in this particular property as there were issues relating to the heating. We were made aware of this during our journey to Rhoscolyn. The managers Frank and Karen were extremely helpful and offered us the choice of staying here using the log burner and oil heater, or to move to another property at no extra cost. We took the option to move to Tynmedd cottage. Frank and Karen showed us to this property and were on hand if needed. Everything was absolutely lovely, and we felt totally looked after. Thank you for a fabulous stay

  • "We had a very special, relaxing time and Anglesey was everything we hoped for."

The cottage is in an excellent position and was very cosy. We couldn't find a cafetière, so were pleased that we'd packed our own. The bedroom window did have a sign saying not to open, as it was buckled, but I'm guessing during the summer months someone had. This might not have been much of a problem, however we had a couple of days with 60mph winds, so had to baracade it to keep the wind and leaves out. On our last day I unfortunately lost the door key, so was obviously upset about this, as we had wanted to leave that night and it was already 5pm. I had visions of sleeping in the car as there was no number for the owners. I cannot thank Sykes, and especially the owners enough for arranging a key to get to us so quickly. So thank you so much, I truly appreciated it. Over all we had an amazing week and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Perfect for days on Borth Wen and Trearrdur. I would agree that a new shower head is needed but otherwise everything great. We've booked for next year already again. Thank you for a lovely week.

  • "Stayed in the property last year and loved it but it seems like it hasn’t been taken care of properly over the last year."

The bedroom window in the double room wouldn’t close, which made it very noisy during the 40mph winds we experienced. My son after the first night woke up covered in bites, we are not sure where these originated from but after hot washing the sheets this seemed to improve, but we found what we think were fleas on occasion on each of us. The cot bed provided smelt like urine, thankfully we had brought our own. The cottage itself needs a deep clean, the carpet smelt horrible, like wet dog/feet. We loved the cottage last year which is why we returned but unfortunately we won’t be coming back again, which is a real shame because we love the location.

  • "Please pay for better wifi."

Even in a rural area you would still be able to get a better service, it is worse than a phone signal and watching TV was impossible. Please replace the shower as it keeps falling off the fitting and spraying water everywhere. After being at the beach all day it is important to be able to have a decent shower, especially with kids. These were the only negatives, the cottage was fantastic, very comfortable furniture and very clean. Everything we needed was there. Thank you.

  • "Lovely quiet location, spacious cottage and nicely decorated."

Well equipped. The king bed was very comfortable but the bunk bed mattress could do with replacing it was quite lumpy. The shower door needs a seal on the bottom. Perhaps ask the cleaner to check window sills, there were dead flies and moths and a fair few cobwebs here and there.

Some problems with wifi/broadband overcome with assistance from managers son. Apparently the estate is sold and some/possible changes in future, but a great quiet retreat away from madding crowds. Would go back for subsequent stay if same scenario, don't know if building/renovations would impinge (possible). H&S issues were minor irritants and new brochures/leaflets req'd in situ.

Had most things, Wi-Fi excellent, TV great, views lovely. Only a little feedback. Would be great to have say 2 dishwasher tablets, and 1 washing machine capsule. Plus a bit of tin foil. Mattress on the top bunk ready for replacement. And the shower could do with being more adjustable height and power. But all said we would stay again and will recommend to friends.

No garden furniture as mentioned. A very old wooden uncomfortable bench. Had to travel back home to collect garden chairs as none to sit out on. Kitchen dining chairs not suitable especially with sciatica. Over bath old shower came off wall with old dried glue. Air training base right over head. Jets sound like thunder from 8am till late. Not worth £873 at all! Maybe worth the £450 max. Check in and out times ridiculous. Too tired to go out after driving & hanging around till 5pm. Left on Friday night as ready and out by 9am too early & rushed to have a shower & before journey cup of tea on Saturday morning.

It's location is also good for walking directly from the front door and a good base for the rest of Anglesey. They could do with supplying some basic information on the facilities such as heating controls and particularly the bins arrangement and day of collection. So not a good start! I appreciate the owner of Garden Cottage opening it up and putting the heating on late at night. The only issues i had were there was no welcome pack with instructions/notes etc and no guest book for comments, minor issurs i know, but the real problem was flies, both dead and still living, hence the score on cleanliness. Otherwise, a lovely property in a lovely setting!

The cottage was spacious, bright, comfortable and so quite. The location was wonderful and it was a treat to see hares, curlews, woodpeckers and bats from the garden ! We were able to walk to several lovely beaches and the local pub was lovely for food and drinks. The facilities in the cottage were brilliant a real home from home ... we didn’t want to leave ! We had a lack of hot water one morning but a quick call to Menai holidays and the manager was at the door within 10 minutes and the problem was sorted. Excellent customer service from all concerned. We have already recommended the cottage and the area to friends and family . Thanks again.

The cottage groundsman, Phil, was extremely helpful and lent us books showing us walks to try - we did 5 of them and they were superb. in addition, the cottage was less than 2 miles from a great pub/restaurant - lunches and evening meals - top stuff! You may want to update your directions on finding the cottage (there are no signs to 'Farm Shop') - not a big deal, but helpful to travel weary guests. Loved ever minute of our stay.

  • "The cottage was lovely."

However it could be improved by providing simple instructions, ie, as to how to get hot Water, we had none when we arrived, plus the information we were provided with said logs were provided in the winter. We had temperatures of 5 degrees at night, but no logs. Maybe a more precise date as to when logs are not provided would be good. The cottage was very well equipped and we could very happily have stayed for a lot longer. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a holiday in Anglesey.

  • "Garden Cottage is absolutely gorgeous."

We could have spent the rest of our lives there. The facilities are absolutely top notch and although we had a few problems (ie electricity failed) the issue was dealt with swiftly. The only issue was having a dog and there being no secure fencing. The house next door has open access so we had to keep an eye on the dog all the times incase he wandered off. Luckily, he was well behaved!

  • "We stayed in the same cottage last year and thought some aspects had slipped i."

    E. the trim around the kitchen floor was worn and the lounge smelt of soot. Also with the owners son now living next door but there being access to both gardens it did not feel as private. Also the cottage is sold as dog friendly, but there is no fence between the garden and the drive / road which means you have to keep an eye on the dog at all times.

About the location

RHOSCOLYN

Valley 2 miles; Trearddur Bay 3 miles; Holyhead 5 miles.

Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse RSPB Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!
