  • "Our first time visiting Anglesey and we have fallen in love."

The cottage was a great base to explore the whole island. The cottage is beautifully decorated, well equipped if you want to take your dog. Really comfortable lounge and master bedroom. Would have liked a dishwasher and I think a hot tub out the back would make a perfect addition

Underneath and behind the sofa were very dusty. We did have a problem with the boiler but this was resolved very quickly.

Great service and communication from Sykes, we asked if it was possible to access the accommodation earlier than 5pm and Sykes representative contacted the cleaning service and got back to us to say we could go at 3pm. The only thing which would put us of returning would be the 5pm access. We'd originally booked thinking we may have our 2 grandchildren but didn't. Would definitely recommend if you have children or dogs. Brilliant for both.

  • "First impressions were good."

Good location. Nicely decorated. On closer inspection not so good. Sofa had stains all over. Thankfully we take throws with us. I had to wash all plates/cups/cutlery before use. A small saucepan had mould in it. Yes it seems dog friendly but the fence out the back is quite low. And the gate at the side even lower. There is no way you can walk dogs straight from the property as there isn’t a path and the cars go quite fast! Another point is the low back door. Definitely needs a sign. I thought our first outing was going to have to be the hospital after my husband banged his head taking luggage inside. We loved the area and would definitely go back to Anglesey but unfortunately not this property.

We woke up every morning to seeing sheep/lamb and ponies. The house has everything you need from kitchen equipment to hot water and heating. It has a freezer as well as fridge, lots of dog bowls and towels. It was extremely clean and the decoration is inviting and it makes you feel at home. Couch and beds were extremely comfortable. The garden was perfect for our 2 dogs and also there’s private parking for at least 2 next to the house. The house is on a 40mph road however it’s not a busy road so it doesn’t bother us. We are already thinking about booking this house for next year.

  • "Just returned from a wonderful stay at this lovely property."

It was very clean, well equipped, bright, modern and beautifully furnished. The only thing missing was an oven glove! The secure little garden was ideal for our two little dogs to safely explore. As it was fully paved there were no worries about 'mucky pups' even when it was raining. Picking up on some previous comments: Main road outside is close/fast but it wasn't busy and we didn't find noise inside the property an issue. Garden gate was broken on arrival but fixed on our first day. Sofa does need attention as the back doesn't lock in upright position. As warned, back door is low. This wasn't an issue for my wife (5'7") but unfortunately at 6' I hit my head a few times. The last time was in the dark & resulted in a grazed head. Needless to say, I didn't do it again but it possibly needs a warning sign? We would not hesitate to return to and/or recommend this great property. It is one of the best that we have stayed in.

  • "We really loved the location of the cottage and the decor is very tasteful and cosy throughout."

I think the standard of cleanliness could definitely be improved as we did find a few things that had been missed. The cottage is clean overall but needs a deep clean. We found the oven trays in the kitchen still dirty from previous users and there was dirty cutlery in the drawer. The toilet had not been cleaned thoroughly round the back of the seat and the bath was also not completely clean. We found having to strip the beds and sort the rubbish a bit of a pain when we were in a rush to be out by 10am, especially with a young baby but this wasn’t the end of the world. It did however highlight that there are no mattress or pillow protectors on the bed and a big yellow stain on the mattress topper in the master bedroom. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and had it not been for the few issues above it would have been perfect!

  • "This is a gorgeous property and has been thoughtfully decorated throughout."

Unfortunately, the technology in the house proved difficult. I lacked the programming skills to start the hob. Ridiculously difficult, even with YouTube videos! The nest was also difficult to programme. (YouTube to the rescue). The bed in the master bedroom was hard and lumpy. Lastly, the glass front of the oven shattered as my friend opened the door. Luckily there were no children or dogs in the kitchen because they'd have been covered in glass. As it was my friend cut her bare feet. I completely understand the difficulty replacing it between Christmas and New Year but I had to go out and buy more food to cook in the microwave so the oven cooked food went to waste. Not the relaxing break we were hoping for :-(

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for your stay at 2 Tan Rhiw. There is a manual with instructions for the hob in the property. However, we have taken onboard your comment and will prepare a laminated sign with simple instructions regarding the use of the hob for future guests. The mattress in the master bedroom is new. It was purchased two months ago, and the old mattress replaced. We were sorry to hear about the problems you experienced with the oven door. Unfortunately, and despite our best efforts, we were unable to source a new cooker for the end of your stay due the Christmas holidays Property Owner

  • "The cottage is furnished nicely and is superficially clean but needs a good deep clean unfortunately."

10% more effort is required to make the overall experience a very good one. The Hoover didn’t work - filter filthy, and the washing machine is also in need of a good scrub out. The sofa was stained - hence the throws I imagine. New mattresses and pillows would make a world of difference to the sleep experience and a couple of sun loungers would have been nice. The ‘view’ from the garden was unattended and the whole air was that however it is being icleaned and maintained, it is being done lazily. Disappointing but 10% more effort and care would have made us rate the cottage as very good. We knew it was on a main road but walking is not recommended and so a car is vital to get out and about. Kitchen has lots of pans but no space for food - maybe some open shelving could provide this? Otherwise a great stay but would not return especially as I had raised the question regarding cleanliness after havibg read a similar review before we went… are these reviews addressed??

Thanks for your feedback issues with cleaners have now been addressed and new cleaning Team in place looking after property, new mattress and pillows added and storage in kitchen. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, beautifully decorated and in a good location, easy access to everywhere on Anglesey."

The minor negatives were no bedding being provided despite the listing stating that bedding was included (had to go to tesco to purchase bedding as hadn’t come prepared due to expecting bedding as per listing). Towels were on the bedroom floor (folded) which was a bit strange (I’m actually wondering if the housekeeper maybe got distracted and forgot to make up the beds / place towels on bed as also the laundry basket was full with used bedding). The bed itself was too low and uncomfortable which I appreciate is just personal preference, I know that you can’t please everyone! Also the road was very busy / with cars speeding past, so caution would be needed if you are bringing children. The cottage really is beautiful though with all the utensils you need in the kitchen and garden furniture outside in the lovely garden. Probably wouldn’t stay again due to the discomfort of the bed, but I can still recommend this cottage and also I think it is really good value for money.

Thank you so much for your kind feedback, we are really glad you enjoyed the house and garden. We are very sorry that there was an error with the changeover and bedding not provided for your stay! If you had called us and let us know we could have been there within half an hour to rectify this for you. The owner has taken your comments about the mattress on board and is looking to replace this very soon. We really hope to be able to welcome you back to 2 Tan Rhiw agaon soon! Property Owner

  • "The cottage is fantastic in terms of cleanliness and comfort."

We did notice a few ants appear in the kitchen from time to time but nothing too bad. Very well equipped in all rooms, especially in the kitchen, however probably too many pans/utensils/glasses which don’t leave much cupboard space for a family of 4 who bring their own food! The cottage is also located on a very busy main road which wasn’t mentioned in the description so it’s not really accessible in terms of taking the kids or the dog out for a walk (due to their being no pavement). The cars going past also don’t adhere to the 40mph limit! A large field is at the back of the property but due to a Private Land sign further up the road, we weren’t sure if this was accessible to us or not? I’d say this property is more suited to a couple or a family with a baby/toddler.

.. loved our stay but the only thing that let it down was the cleanliness... we did not expect to have to clean the bathroom floor, toilet and around the bath... The kitchen floor also had to be cleaned and the microwave had left over remains of curry inside so as you can imagine the smell was not too great that met us... Cobwebs were seen around the house too and the entrance porch we had to sweep that too... Such a shame especially in these times of the pandemic and also the fact that we could not get in until 5 so that deep cleaning can be done. Incase we felt we left the cottage cleaner than we found. So disappointing but the stay and the location and the ease around the island we found was exceptional...

Very comfortable beautifully furnished and a great location to explore Anglesey. One of the best cottages we’ve stayed in. The owners have gone above and beyond with facilities. The cottage was very clean apart from cobwebs also mentioned by previous guests. There is only a small fridge so we had to shop daily for fresh food but the shops are not far away. The cottage is on a busy road with some motorists exceeding the speed limit so you would need to supervise children and dogs in the rear garden. Unlike most cottages there was no welcome tray with milk so you would need supplies for the first evening but again this wasn’t a deal breaker. We would definitely recommend this cottage and we would most definitely stay again. Thank you, the owners should be very proud of their holiday home

There was lots of cobwebs on the walls and ceiling, we had to hoover the sofa as it was covered in bits, dead flys and daddy long legs in the window. All plates and utensils needed to be cleaned before use. Bath and sink had to be cleaned before use. There was lots of fly’s flying around on arrival. We understand that we are in difficult times with Covid-19 but felt we shouldn’t have to strip the beds and sort dirty washing such as towel, empty bins and expect to be out by 10.00am, considering this isn’t a cheap property to rent.

We are glad you liked the refurbishment of 2 Tan Rhiw, with it being a country cottage it can be difficult keeping it free of all the associated wee wildlife, We have had a chat with the housekeeping team in regards to the other points you mentioned. All the literature sent out to you before you booking should have explained the need to strip the beds and empty the bins as the health and security of our housekeepers is as important to us as the guests is. About the location

LLANFAIRPWLLGWYNGYLL

Menai Bridge 2 miles; Beaumaris 6 miles.

Affectionately known by the locals as Llanfair PG, the Anglesey village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrnd robwllllantysiliogogogoch, also known by its shortened name of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll has the longest place name in Europe. It was artificially named back in 1860 as a publicity stunt for the railway station and translates from Welsh as "St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the fierce whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave". Situated close to the Menai Straits, just off the Britannia Bridge, Llanfair PG has much to offer families. After having your photo taken next to the village nameplate at the railway station, head into the popular visitors centre for local tourist information. A short walk past the octagonal Toll House, towards Menai Bridge, will bring you to the Marquis of Anglesey statue and column which, for a small fee, you can climb the 115 steps to the top for superb views of the countryside and coastline. Nelson’s Monument can be easily reached on the banks of the Menai Straits, passing St Mary’s Church on the way. With several good pubs with restaurants, craft and gift shops and cafes, plus the beautiful Anglesey coastline within walking distance, there is plenty to entertain you all year round.
