  • "Beautiful barn, in a peaceful area with a pub and shop within walking distance."

Caernarfon is only 10 mins drive, Llanberis is only 5 mins away. As this is part of a working pottery, there is a wonderful shop selling Barbara's works of art, and allows you to paint a pot on the premises, or take 1 home to paint with the free paint kit. Everything in the barn was in great order, and the lit wood fire really made the evenings, even more special. I would like to thank Barbara for her help, and do really recommend this property for a true family get away. Thanks.

  • "Excellent break for three couples held over from 2020 owing to Covid."

Despite the rain we walked every day, visited the Slate Museum, had a trip on the Ffestiniog Railway and explored Llanberis, Caernarfon and beyond. A walk to the steak & quiz night in the local pub on Thursday was entertaining, as was the Curry in Llanberis on the first night - although in a very different way! All in all a very good week - many thanks for your hospitality.

Barbara the owner , was at hand if we needed anything and came to our rescue ,providing us with a shower seat for our elderly mother .Things that would improve the property would be larger screen TVs, especially in main lounge area, a radio in the kitchen.

  • "Although the place met the description, there were failings."

One of the two ovens did not work. The shower in the main bedroom leaked through to the utility room. The kitchen utensils were nearly useless and needed urgent replacement. We tried to contact the owner, but got no reply. Generally the place gave the impression of being grubby, and in need of a complete refresh. We would not go back unless these points were addressed.

  • "Great cottage to stay in."

The living room and kitchen are huge and would suit 1 large or 2 small families. 5 bedrooms with 3 doubles , 2 singles in another room and a room with 4 bunks. The area is fabulous but I would imagine in summer it would be too busy for some. Owner lives on site but leaves you alone. The barn is on a main road but you can't really hear the traffic. We took 2 dogs who loved it though we did have to drive a couple of miles for their morning walk but this was on the side of a lake ! Fabulous.

  • "The owner, Barbara, was delightful and ready to help."

The house is very spacious and perfect for a large family group. Particular care had been taken to comply with Covid-19 regulations and instructions were easy to follow. The pottery on-site was an added bonus on a wet day. We can also highly recommend Wavell's butchers/deli a short walk away in Llanrug - fresh bread for breakfast, local Bara Brith, amazing sausage rolls and pies and a fine meat counter.

Property was bigger than the pictures gave credit for, the whole place was very clean and ideal for what we needed for the weekend. Barbara was more than accommodating to us offering early and late check outs, and a late night session at the pottery if we wished too. All bedrooms well equipped with en suite bathrooms, lounge was plenty big enough for party games and as a communal area for guests. Went for a lovely 3 hour walk round Llanberis lake which was only a mile away from the house and other attractions close by too. All in all a fantastic stay, welcoming and friendly owner, would recommend highly for birthdays and family gatherings for a weekend or longer escape to the country. 10/10! :)

The barn was ideal for a large group which spanned three generations (including young children, a baby and 2 dogs), We had everything we needed in the very well-equipped kitchen and the small enclosed garden was great for the dogs and had a washing line with pegs. All the rooms (including the bedrooms) were spacious and comfortable. There was enough seating (including a high-chair) in the kitchen to enable our large group to dine together and five comfortable sofas in the living room. We had a very enjoyable week!

We ALL agreed that this was the best ever!! The barn is beautiful and very well appointed. It has all mod cons and is spotless. Such a luxury to have en-suite in every room( the lucky people with the Jacuzzi bath were very impressed!) Plenty of lounge space to all sit comfortably and a well appointed kitchen with a great table for shared meals. Our hostess was really kind, leaving us cakes and milk for when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble and we loved the pot painting session that we did on Saturday night ...with our wine!! We don't make a habit of returning to the same place twice, but this time will be an exception ....it's just too nice not to do again! Very many thanks.

  • "As much as this is a stunning house, the cleanliness far out weight it for me."

Bathrooms were very dirty and we has to sweep up the whole of down stairs the day we Got there. also, the bed were a nightmare Even putting 2 mattresses on top of eachother felt like laying on rocks, not comfortable at all. Nearly £600 for the 3 nights, not worth it at all.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry that you felt the cleanliness of the property was lacking, the house has just had a full professional deep clean two days before check in to get ready for the new season. We take on board your comments regarding the mattresses, though this can be subjective and hasn't been mentioned previously. Thank you for saying we have a stunning property and we hope you managed to enjoy your stay. Property Owner

There are a couple of minor issues with the showers - some regrouting needed. We found the control of water temperature erratic in the shower in room number 1. There are not enough glasses for the capacity of 14 although there is plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. It is a great space for large parties and having ensuite rooms a bonus. Wood burner warmed main sitting room, plentiful supply of logs. Everyone loved Piggery Pottery and came away with souvenirs of their stay. With a little t l c this house could be wonderful again. Represents good value for money for large parties.

  • "Due to the location of this property, many people arrive at night."

The signage and driveway to the barn isn't lit up at all which makes finding it at night very difficult. I also take a dog with me as this property is pet friendly. I take the dog for walks late at night and early in the morning, and with the driveway not lit up, it makes walking quite difficult. The property is absolutely splendid and kept to a reasonably high standard, if I was to complain it would be the heating of the bedrooms and water isn't good. But I've stayed here before and knew what to expect. The owner Barbara is a very pleasant lady who wants to make sure you have a good stay. I have stayed at this property twice and would do so again. Which speaks volumes.

The owner and proprietor of the pottery next door was lovely and very accommodating. Beautiful spacious house with breathtaking views. Only downside if it can be counted as such is the lack of a family bathroom. We slept on the futon in the lounge as our whole party was adults requiring their own room so in the night it was tricky as there was no bathroom that isn't through someone elses bedroom. Other than that minor point 10/10

Many thanks for the treats left for us. It didn't take the children long to demolish them. Lovely area to visit down by the lakes walking the dogs and watching the world go by very relaxing. The Welsh Slate mines is definitely worth a visit.Plenty to do and see. We were fortunate to see "The weeping window of Poppies" at Canearfon Castle very moving. Overall we had a lovely holiday in an area of great beauty. Would love to go again and the bonus of such a large property ideal for large and extended families. We also found the local pub for food, another hidden gem.

About the location

LLANRUG

Llanberis 2 miles; Caernarfon 4 miles; Betws-y-Coed 15 miles.

Llanrug is a small village with two pubs, two shops, a Post Office, a hotel with indoor swimming pool and fitness room, and a 9 hole golf course is nearby. The village is situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, only 3 miles from famous Llanberis. Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris, and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. Llanberis is something of a 'mecca' for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales. The ascent can be made either by train, on the Snowdonia Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Llanberis boasts excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 4 miles from Llanrug, on the coast, is Caernarfon with its magnificent 13th century castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn and Plas Newydd and many wonderful beaches.
