  • "The location was beautiful and owner was friendly and helpful with a leak."

The lodges themselves were pretty disgusting though and did not feel well maintained. To pick one example, dish rack in both kodges we had had lumps of brown goo in it, as well as hair and bits of food residue. Surfaces and floor were unclean and sticky. My sister found a literal ball of hair in a drawer of utensils. Also not convinced by things like fire blanket being up to date - case was completely sunbleached like it had sat there for years. There was a certificate of pat testing that was due January of 2025 or something - not terrible, but some of the equipment like kettle had pat stickers say due 2008! Mixed information between guidance on Sykes, folder of docs in property and general messages on property. One thing said 5 pounds will be left for electricity meter while a note under the 5 pounds said these were for emergency only and to be replaced by guest if used - given we spent 700 quid for 4 nights that felt pretty cheap!! Sisters lodge had a serious leak which led to power cutting off repeatedly because we had the water heater on qnd didnt realise. Spent 20 quid on the meter that night so the kids could shower while this was happening. Owner was easy to contact and responsive, but next day plumber came when we were out and didn't bring a spare key so had to get him the day after. Was very telling that owner couldn't get a spare key. These lodges don't feel looked after at all. Last one - sisters lodge had a bath where the outside of the plughole was so rusted it couldn't hold water! This stuff is all manageable for a cheap stay for a walking holiday, but it wasnt cheap and we were going with young kids prepared to spend a bit more time in the lodges if weather had turned.

  • "This structure is at least 32 years old, is in poor condition."

Uncomfortable with poky bedrooms. Largely unheatable and probably unusable during cold weather. Insulation non-existent. Vast supply of pound coins needed for the electric meter. Everything damp. Broken and rotten wooden steps, wobbly rails and some of the structure actually fell off during stay. Very old near-unworkable cooker and poorly equipped kitchen. Steep access paths unmaintained and dangerous. It should be pointed out that cars have to be left at the bottom of site and luggage carted up the dodgy paths. This lodge and probably all the others need a complete makeover with proper heating system, revamped kitchen. In fact the whole interior needs to be updated. All the access paths need to be re-made. The electricity should be included in the price. The shed with the washing machine and dryer needs to be rebuilt and the appliances replaced. Overall not a good place to stay - beautiful island but in the end looked forward to leaving and would certainly never go back to this site.

  • "COR-426458-CF (Heather) Recent new owner, was the site checked by Sykes?"

Because if it was we don't feel the property offered value for money, given the problems we faced. On arrival the Immersion heater had flooded the kitchen and was out of order. We had no hot water from Saturday until Monday 6pm after the plumber had fitted a new thermostat. the boiler was old and had low water pressure. Bathroom - Poor quality 'Power' shower; shaver light did not work; overflow of sink leaked onto floor Kitcken - poor quality cooker; limited equipment for 4 people e.g. 2 wine glasses, broken tin opener Other - no battery in clock; broken step up to the property; only one spare toilet roll; no mop or dishcloth/kitchen cleaner to maintain cleanliness during the week

  • "The setting was very peaceful."

The chalet was well laid out. The heating was totally inadequate and at the end of September it was pretty cold. The duvet was flimsy and I'm glad we had an extra blanket from the car. They left £5 in single pound coins for each day, which was fine, we put in more than double that again and it was still cool. Please don't advertise that there is wifi. There was no Wi-Fi at all. Tried several times each day. I was hoping in the peace and quiet of doing a little research. I would rather. That said we did enjoy our Arran visit. I love these chalets and their location, they have huge potential with a little bit of serious TLC . This wee complex could be so beautiful
