  • "We had a really lovely stay at Fois House, which is actually quite a bit bigger than some of the images suggest."

The property was very well equipped and perfectly clean. The location was beautiful, with plenty of walks around and a pub just down the road (although it was mostly closed while we were there). Lots of bird life (owners had filled the feeders) and the garden was secure enough to let dogs out without worry. Downstairs shower room really handy, especially if you have dogs. Showers were also very powerful. Beds very comfy. Overall I would definitely recommend Fois house to anyone and would like to stay again. Only a couple of small downsides. First was the lack of WiFi or cell reception (our fault, the owner does notify of this on the listing). We're all for disconnecting but it's actually quite hard to plan walks, days out etc without using the internet (I use OS MAPS app, for example). Also, on rainy days, of which there are a lot in Scotland, it's helpful to have internet for entertainment purposes (Netflix et al) – and the property didn't have a huge selection of books or DVDs (we actually bought some from a charity shop in Callander to add to their stocks!). They did have some good board games though. I believe owners are working to rectify WiFi issue. Generally we found there was not enough hot water in the tank for four adults to have showers consecutively, so two of us usually had showers in the evenings, which is fine. Finally, when we arrived the house was extremely cold, but once we had the fire going and heating up it was ok. Can't fault their eco credentials on these last two points though, and owners used eco-friendly cleaning materials which was great.

  • "We enjoyed our stay here."

The small touches around the property were lovely: cookbooks, milk in the fridge, homemade flapjack, spices and herbs, books, games, and so many cleaning products! It took us a while to work out how to keep the fire alight - once we found the instructions we were warm! The location was perfect for us, tranquil and light. There were a few minor issues though: 1. There were stains on our bedsheets - not nice to sleep on 2. The towels were rather lacking: in variety of sizes and softness 3. I can understand why post it notes were placed around the property but we did feel rather 'watched' by these, so we took them down! 4. The vacuum was blocked - we fixed this. These are minor points and will not stop us coming back again - we plan to book for next year.

  • "The location is nice and tranquil, but still with good connection to the Loch Kathrin area."

The only downside to us was the internet connection. At the time we made our booking, it was not as clear as it is now, that there is no internet (there is a weak WiFi signal [as well as 3G to 4G] on the balcony, but none inside). On the plus side, there is a washing maschine that is not listed.

  • "There were some lovely touches, like home baked flapjacks and the bird feeders which kept the garden full of wildlife for us to watch."

Covid-19 restrictions meant that the local pub/restaurant was closed, which was very disappointing as there aren't really any alternatives. We struggled with the slow, feeble Wifi which was only accessed out on the veranda!

Its a fantastic house with a modern open layout yet a very homely feel. With the underfloor heating and log fire I bet its great in winter too! We will definitely be back.

  • "The accommodation was perfect, exactly what we wanted and very clean with great facilities."

What wasn't very accommodating was the customer service from Sykes. I understand it was an unusual experience with our flights being cancelled due to Flybe going adminstration but my options for potentially adjusting my booking were very limited and were placed under a end of the day deadline, which was very stressful on top of already trying to seek alternative transport. Sykes said no refund was available, only that we could change our dates once and once only. The issue was that we had no idea when we would reschedule our booking for as who knows when a different airline would pick up the Southampton to Glasgow route in place of Flybe. We had no choice but to keep our booking with very little support from Sykes. I don't blame the cottage owner at all as she seemed more than accommodating and understanding when we met. However I shall not be booking with Sykes again in the future.

  • "The house itself is amazing."

I would have to say though that the images, suggesting it is near a loch are quite misleading as it is mikes from the nearest loch. I would suggest that it requires better mirrors in bathrooms - one is too high and the other is too small. I would however say that we still had a very enjoyable break.

Many thanks for your feedback. There is a picture of the Loch Cafe which is 2 miles away from Fois House and Sykes will move this picture to the end of the photos to avoid any confusion. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and the House. Property Owner

The property

Callander 7.4 miles.

Fois House rests within driving distance of the Loch Lomond, within The Trossachs National Park, near the welcoming town of Callander.

The Scottish Gaelic meaning translates to 'peace' and 'rest" which accurately describes the tranquil setting of the cottage, presenting landscape views from every window.

It is ideal for couples, friends or a small family looking to get away from it all and discover a new adventure in a superb region of Scotland.

Step inside from the long driveway and fully relax within this modern accommodation, tied together with bright colour schemes, handy appliances and plush furnishings, for that well-earned break.

Gather in the lounge and get cosy by the woodburning stove, or throw open the French doors in summer and let a cool breeze fill the space.

Rustle up a tasty meal in the fitted kitchen and dine together around the large table, a lovely sociable space for catching up over the day's events.

Up the twisted staircase is a bright and airy twin room and across the hall, a double, each with Velux windows and built-in wardrobes.

The family bathroom glistens on the landing, whilst the ground floor shower room is ideal coming in from a long muddy walk.

Long summer afternoons beckon you onto the veranda from the sitting room, where you can enjoy balmy sunsets melting behind the hills beyond the trees.

You have a local pub nearby, in the Brig o 'Turks, with a friend service and good selection of drinks, while the bustling town of Callander offers a plethora of amenities to suit all tastes.

About the location

Stirling 14 miles, Loch Lomond 30 miles, Perth 37 miles.

The popular tourist town of Callander, in the Stirling region of Scotland, sits on the River Teith and is known as the Gateway to the Highlands. Located on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and surrounded by beautiful scenery, Callander has been a favourite stopping point for tourists on their way to the Highlands for over 150 years. There is evidence of a settlement here reaching as far back as the Neolithic period, and to demonstrate this, a little way east of the town is Scotland’s largest chambered cairn, along with several Iron Age forts to the west. A disciple of Columba of Iona, Saint Kessog preached in this area in the 6th century and there is a knoll, Tom na Chessaig or Hill of Kessog, named in his honour, set near the River Teith. The town today is brimming with shops, bars, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets, providing plenty of amenities. There are many walks and cycle paths around the town as well as the many lochs and hills of the nearby National Park. Callander is within easy reach of Stirling and Perth, and even Glasgow and Edinburgh can be found for a pleasant day trip either by car or train from Stirling.
