“Amazing area to visit, had far more help and information sent by email from the owner than I have ever had before.”

All makes for an outstanding week during these torrid times. Cannot thank the owners enough.

The property

Kilmartin 5 miles.

This charming, mid-terrace cottage sits beside the Crinan Canal, in the hamlet of Cairnbaan, close to Kilmartin in beautiful Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland.

Providing comfortable and welcoming accommodation, set in a wonderful countryside setting, this cottage is great for small families and groups of friends to enjoy a retreat in this wonderful part of Scotland.

On entering the property you notice the character of the property with lovely wooden and tiled floors throughout.

The kitchen is nicely presented with everything available to create some great home-cooked meals to enjoy.

The sitting room is full of comfy sofas with a welcoming woodburning stove; a smashing place to relax in front of after a full day out and about.

There are two pleasant, comfortable bedrooms upstairs, with wonderful views of the countryside and beyond to the canal, with a family bathroom also.

To the outside of the property is an area with furniture.

This then leads out to a large grassy area, which makes a great place for kids to let off some steam, whilst you enjoy some relaxing time with something chilled to enjoy.

The Crinan Canal offers wonderful scenery for walking and cycling and there are plenty of forests and hills nearby should you wish for something more energetic.

Kilmartin is home to the spectacular ruin of Carnasserie Castle and the Nether Largie standing stones, plus with the medieval hillfort of Dunadd, guests are sure to discover a fascinating history in this wonderful area.

Considered the capital of the ancient Gaelic Kingdom of Dalriada, Dunadd is home to ancient stone carvings, including the stone footprint believed to be part of the coronation ritual.

A charming cottage to enjoy this part of Scotland at any time of the year.

About the location

Crinan 7 miles; Lochgilphead 8 miles; Tarbert 21 miles; Oban 30 miles.

The village of Kilmartin sits at the heart of Kilmartin Glen, one of the most important prehistoric sites on the Scottish mainland. In the area there are rock carvings, standing stones, burial cairns and the remains of the Iron-Age fort at Dunadd, the home of the first kings of Scotland. Kilmartin is home to a church, pub, a castle and the Kilmartin House Museum with visitor centre next door, housing a café. The town of Lochgilphead is eight miles away, offering a good selection of cafes and small shops selling a range of goods, foods and crafts, while the village of Inveraray, home to the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, is within driving distance. Close by is Crinan Canal, which is surrounded by the stunning scenery of Argyll and Bute. From end to end the canal is nine miles long, and its sheltered waters make it an ideal place for beginners and the more experienced paddlers to explore. There are beautiful walks to be enjoyed throughout the area from Kilmichael Forest, to those at Port Ann and Dunardry and up over the hill from the stoney beach at Crinan Ferry, from where you can look out over Jura and north towards Mull. A trip to the Scottish Beaver Trail in Knapdale Forest also provides a fun family day out, plus the fishing village of Tarbert gives you superb access to all the ferry points across Kintyre that travel to Gigha, Arran, Islay and Portavadie.
