  • "Rosalin Cottage is a typical small period cottage with lots of charm in its own way."

    However we found it rather too small for our personal liking. One person's access to the side of the bed is unfortunately very narrow. The kitchen for a self catering facility is rather lacking in work space and does require careful planning where to put things once they are cooked. Some more cooking utensils like spatulas, or cooking tongs to handle food would have been appreciated. Plus its the only Sykes Cottage we've been in where we couldn't find any egg cups! However this didn't deter us from enjoying lots of walks in the local area and access to all the great beaches close by. One final note: on day of departure the Dyson cleaner dust container was already full to the brim. When I used it to clean the whole cottage it was full again! to say the least I was rather shocked as we don't have a dog and we were only in the cottage in the evenings. So what do the housekeeping service do?

    Thank you for this feedback. We will look into all your comments and apologise if it didn't live up to your expectations. It is a little surprising, however, as most visitors positively enjoy the snug and cosy nature of this 18th Century miners' cottage. The website information with numerous photographs do give an excellent perspective on the scale of the property. The access to the bed on one side is narrower but it is still accessible from both sides. Its a compromise of fitting in a larger bed and storage into small spaces. The kitchen is fully equipped and has all usual amenities such as spatulas, tongs etc. These are in the drawer unit to the side of the cooker. There is even an egg poacher/boiler in the top cupboard! Egg cups should be in one or other of the cabinets. If any of the equipment has gone walkabout we haven't heard of it, but will replace any missing items at our site inspection in a few days. Your disappointment might have been avoided if, while there, you had called us, as you did before arrival, so that we could have pointed you in the right direction for everything you needed. The comments about the cleanliness and housekeeping are of concern. The carpet was only washed the week before your arrival, so that may account for extra fluff. Nevertheless, We will check of course on inspection and in the meantime have raised the matter with housekeeping. The Dyson is one which we use on visits to the house and are surprised it was full. Housekeeping bring all their own equipment and vacuum cleaner and maintain the property to a high standard as observed by the overwhelming majority of visitors. Thank you again for your comments we strive always to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction and make the cottage everyone's home from home. Property Owner

  • "Lovely well equipped cottage."

    We loved sitting in the porch. However, it would have been much better had the floor been tiled as the carpet was badly marked. Enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back in October. Great neighbours.

    Loved the log burner which kept us toasty warm. Great spot for getting away from the hustle and bustle of inner city life. Very relaxing bolt hole with nice relaxing walks. Fabulous contact with the owner when needed, who was very accommodating.

Rosalin Cottage is a beautiful, historic abode nestled into a traditional row of miners’cottages in Dreghorn near Irvine. Rosalin Cottage rests in Perceton Row, which dates from the early 19th Century and is a designated Conservation Area, being one of a few surviving Miners Rows, making it a great base for couples and history lovers looking for a base in North Ayshire. Be welcomed into a beautiful property with a kitchen offering ample amenities and contemporary furnishings. The living/dining room is a great space for guests to relax after a long day of exploring the local area, with a dining table ideal for romantic meals for two, complemented by a glass of fizz. Afterwards, settle into the sitting area and warm your feet beside the woodburning stove as you enjoy a good book or your favourite TV show. When sleep calls, freshen up in the shower room, before cosying up for the night in the double bedroom. Enjoy breakfast in the garden before heading out to explore. The route follows beautiful, panoramic coastlines and passes fascinating castles such as Culzean, Ballantrae and Portencross. Visitors can also explore the historic Burns Trail or other attractions dedicated to Scotland’s rich history, for example Viking invaders, Betsy Miller, reputedly the first female sea captain, or hop on the ferry to Millport. Irvine and Dreghorn have a history stretching back to Neolithic times and Dreghorn is possibly the oldest continually inhabited village in Europe. The harbourside walk enjoys various features with an SSSI across the bay, plus a Scottish Maritime Museum which includes the oldest sea-going private steam yacht and the last Clyde “puffer”; reminders of Irvine's former prominence as a seaport.

As well as vibrant coffee shops and Arts Centre there is the 16th century Ship Inn, restaurants and other pubs. From the harbour, access Irvine’s sand dunes and expansive beach, linking to those at Barassie, Troon and beyond. With spectacular views across the Clyde to Arran it is a great place for dog walks, sea swimming and spectacular sunsets. Local facilities include The Portal a new leisure centre with a variety of facilities. For shopping, the Rivergate Shopping Centre is home to over 60 stores. Irvine is a Scottish 'new town' and the only one in the UK set on the coast. It is also one of the country’s oldest settlements with a rich history. There are lots of opportunities for walks and cycling in the area. Irvine boasts a pretty harbourside walk, which takes in various features highlighting Irvine's former industrial heritage. The bustling harbourside, enjoys a variety of coffee shops, tearooms. Maritime Museum, arts centre and artists’ community. The Ship Inn by the harbour dates back to the time of King James 1st and is full of memorabilia. The harbour road leads to Irvine’s glorious sand dunes and beach which stretches as far as the eye can see. With spectacular views across the Clyde to Arran it is a great place for dog walks, sea swimming, or just viewing spectacular sunsets. Parts of Irvine old town reflect it's history including when Robert Burns lived and worked in the town. Irvine has a new leisure centre, The Portal, offering a range of a facilities. For shopping, the Rivergate Shopping Centre is home to over 60 stores. Further afield there are opportunities for golf at one of the many good courses in the area, a spot of fishing or sailing, kite surfing or paddle boarding. The various towns from Ayr to Largs along the coast with links to the islands are within easy reach, as is Glasgow with it's many attractions which is around 30 minutes away.
