It’s also very well equipped and a lot of thought has gone into furnishings. Wonderful peaceful location with lots of things to do in the local environs. The downside to this cottage is the heating. We have stayed in a lot of self catering cottages over the years but never stayed in a cottage where you cannot control the heating. Everything is password protected and controlled remotely by the owners. We had a particular problem with upstairs routinely being 23/24 degrees which was too hot and the lounge ranged from 15-18 which wasn’t ideal on an evening when you want to relax and read or watch television. In fairness to the owners there seems to be a problem with the underfloor heating downstairs which needs remedying. We were given access to unlimited wood for the stove. Felt a little shortchanged as this wasn’t one of the cheapest cottages in the area.

With panoramic views of the surrounding countryside towards the coast, this Dumfries and Galloway cottage has three bedrooms, including a king-size double with a Juliet balcony and views of the sea beyond.

The spacious open plan living area at this Stairhaven cottage exudes quality and style with a well-equipped, fitted kitchen, complete with central island, a dining area with glass panelled doors that can be retracted to incorporate the lovely sitting room, which benefits from a woodburner and French doors to the rear patio.

Outside this cottage in Stairhaven is a rear patio area and lawn with open views across the surrounding fields.

The coast is just a short distance from this Dumfries and Galloway cottage and the wide expanse of Luce Bay opens up.

About the location

STAIRHAVEN

Glenluce 2 miles; Port William 9 miles; Newton Stewart 17 miles.

The small hamlet of Stairhaven, near Glenluce, once famous for smuggling, sits on the east side of Luce Bay in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland. This tranquil spot has an abundance of wildlife and is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Stairhaven is within easy reach of the Galloway Forest, which offers walking and cycling, including the well know 7stanes cycle trail. The forest is also home to the Dark Sky Park, where you can see the night sky in all its glory. There are a number of golf courses close by, including the County 18 hole true links course, which is situated on the shores of Luce Bay. Fishing in the area is first class with opportunities to enjoy both loch and sea fishing, plus the River Luce is popular for salmon and trout fishing. Take a day trip to Belfast from the local ferry port, or stroll along the sandy beaches at Sandhead or Monreith, or simply just sit and read in Wigtown – Scotland’s famous book town. This beautiful part of the country has something for everyone.
