Congleton is a charming town resting between Crewe and Buxton and Manchester and Stockport. The town is known for the Stone and Bronze Age artefacts found within it and for the fact it became a market town upon the Viking’s destruction of the nearby Davenport. There is a wealth of pubs in the town including Ye Olde White Lion and The Olde King Arms which boast fantastic Tudor architecture. Head to the town’s museum to immerse yourself in the past before ambling through either Astbury Mere Country Park home to an impressive lake or Congleton Park where the River Dane flows through its centre. There are a variety of National Trust sites woven throughout the surrounding countryside including Little Moreton Hall, Mow Cop Castle, and Biddulph Grange Garden, providing a wealth of exploring opportunities. The Peak District National Park is also easily accessible by car, and keen ramblers will be in their elements as a myriad of walking opportunities transverse the breath-taking terrain, with summits including Stanage Edge, and Kinder Scout.
