We would recommend this property for the location and some little touches made the welcome extra special it was very nice to have tea, coffee & milk for when we arrived. The kitchen is also very well stocked with dishwasher tablets, hand wash , washing up liquid & tea towels provided. It really does make a difference . It is actually in front of the property called The Curlews. The only other thing was we were left no cleaning products for general cleaning ie bathroom or kitchen spray. The property is lovely very comfortable, clean and homely. The outside space is ideal and peaceful. Crantock is a beautiful little village and the beach is stunning. Love the closeness to the beach & local amenities. Both my husband & I found the master bed uncomfortable but perhaps personal choice of mattress firmness. My only feedback is around recycling, which I’ve seen commented on here. This still isn’t an option & feel this should be prioritised. It’s not good enough to not have in place. We need to ensure we play our part in ensuring we are all doing our bit for the environment.

  • "We enjoyed our stay generally."

However it is not really acceptable in 2023 to not provide recycling and claim it is ‘too complicated’ to explain to guests. You have a responsibility for your own environmental impact in the tourism industry just like everyone else.

The location is brilliant and the cottage is a great size. My husband, myself and our Labrador had plenty of space to relax, however the sofas were so uncomfortable and very small. For a cottage that can sleep 6 adults the sofas would not have fit more than 4. The TV was also on the small side but was fine for the few nights we stayed in.

  • "The layout was strange."

The lounge furniture was very different from photos also not enough seating for 6 people one of our party had to sit on a dining room room chair to be part of the group. The television reception was also very poor you could only watch bbc 1 or 2 . The location was perfect but the overall stay at the cottage was very disappointing

It was immaculately clean, with very comfortable beds and access to the patio area which was enclosed for our dogs. The position is ideal in a lovely village and with easy access to Newquay. We will return for a third visit.

  • "This was our second time staying at this property and once again it didn't disappoint."

We stayed as a family of 6. 4 adults and two children and then a small dog. The patio area outside is lovely to sit out and secure also with a dog. We were blessed with the weather so were able to sit out most nights. There is a small bbq which is available to use. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked with utensils and pots/pans etc, there are even dog bowls for use. I've seen other reviews commenting on the smaller 2nd bedroom. It is a little tight in there but is plenty big enough for a night's sleep. There is little storage in the two rooms but the master bedroom has a large double wardrobe so we just used that if needing extra storage. The house is in a great position for walking down to the shop/pubs and beach. It is also opposite the village hall, which has a field and small play park for the children and now some fitness equipment also. Overall we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

    Reviewed by Kerry4.7Aug 2022

  • "The house is generally as described but the two bedrooms are very small and there is insufficient space to unpack and store clothes in each bedroom."

We stayed with 4 children aged 9, 11, 12 and 14. One of the bedrooms was extremely small and not really suitable for two people to share. The main bedroom is lovely with ample space and a comfortable bed. The en-suite is small but perfectly adequate. The main shower room is in need of some updating. The shower door needs a new seal to prevent water leaking out of the shower when in use- this was a major issue for 4 children using the shower as the floor was continuously soaking wet. The kitchen is a good size and has all the necessary facilities other than a tumble dryer which made it difficult to dry towels and swim suits especially with 4 children. The weather didn’t always permit drying outside so a dryer would improve things considerably. The main lounge is lovely although the sofas are small and it is a tight squeeze to sit 6 people all at once. The Tv does not have freeview channels - it is a smart tv so it’s possible to access all the usual apps. The outdoor space is pleasant enough. It is all decked. There is a large table and chairs, a small bbq and a clothes line. It would be a much more comfortable experience if there were cushions for the outdoor chairs as they are very heavy wooden chairs that aren’t particularly comfortable. Also, a couple of sun loungers with cushions would be a good idea to relax properly in the garden. Overall, we had a lovely holiday at Crantock Lodge and would return as the location is fantastic - very close to the village and beach enabling us to walk everywhere.

  • "The pictures make the property look a lot nicer than it is - the sofas in the living room are not the same - they are much smaller and uncomfortable and do not sit 6 people."

All of the furniture in the living room and dining room is very tired and grubby. The master bedroom was really lovely apart from the fact it had a really bad damp smell...even after opening windows and spraying air freshner this smell did not go away. Location of the house was perfect - close to the beach and the pubs. The kitchen was very well equipped.

We are sorry you weren't as pleased with your holiday as we would have liked. We endeavour to repair/ replace damage made to furniture as soon as possible but this isn't always possible during the busy summer season. I will note your comments as part of our annual maintenance schedule. The musty smell has been dealt with but can assure you doesn't come from the actual house which has had extensive damp work very recently as part of our last maintenance closure. I glad you enjoyed the kitchen equipment and do hope you will visit us again , we pride ourselves on the quality and design of our unique holiday home . Property Owner

  • "Very disappointed with 2 bedrooms, 1had only room for a double bed, when clearly it should have a single bed plus a wardrobe."

The 2nd bedroom had no wardrobe/chest of drawers, a single chair had to be removed to make room to walk around the bed. The mirror is so distressed, you can only see an outline in it, completely unfit for its purpose. The one piece of furniture in there was of no use for storing clothes etc. We enjoyed the rest of the house, but overall the lack of space in the bedrooms was a big problem.

I am sorry you were disappointed with 2 of the bedrooms, its always challenging as an owner to meet everyones needs .We hope that the photos and description accurately represent what we offer so my apologies that it wasn't evident and suitable for your party . The Lodge does have an eclectic mix of new ( beds) and antique furniture and decorative pieces which also means some beautiful old mirrors, there are plenty of clear glass mirrors in the property as well . I do hope you would consider us again if your holiday needs change Property Owner

Beautiful and homely from the moment you walk through the door. So clean and lovely decor all through the lodge. Fully equipped kitchen also. There was a vase of lillies on the kitchen table that were lovely and welcoming and smelled amazing all through the house. We brought our 2 dogs so the back garden was nice and very safe for them. The whole lodge has a beautiful vibe. The local shop Pubs and beach are a stone throw away. I didn't want to come home when our break was finished. Just perfect.

  • "Overall a lovely bungalow, in a fab location close to the local shop, 2 pubs and beach."

Upon arrival we immediately noticed that the property's sofa was different to the one advertised. The sofa had a very low back and was not very comfortable. The lounge would benefit from two big sofas and a chair, the space can certainly take it. If there were 6 people the party the lounge would not sit 6 people comfortably. Couple of issues in the kitchen, the dishwasher door kept falling down (wouldn't stay ajar) and with it taking the plinth with it. A little bit of maintence needed. The kitchen really could of done with a tumble dryer as there is limited space to put a clothes airer. A couple of the windows were very difficult to open. Both beds 2/3 we very small with no wardrobes, just a couple of hooks. All in all a good property that just needs a little bit of maintenance. Would just say it would suit a family with children, rather than like our party 2 couples and a child.

Lounge, bedroom & en-suite were as good as we've seen. Would definitely recommend. However some attention needed to kitchen floor & if advertised as "dog friendly" with a surcharge we expected dog access to whole house, not restricted to living areas (or this should be explained on the booking information). To be picky, half of the TV channels were pixelated & I couldn't work out how to re-tune & pillows were too firm for some of us. Those little niggles didn't stop us from really enjoying it overall.

  • "Crantock Cottage is by far the best place we have stayed at in Cornwall."

It is comfortable, relaxing, very well equipped and finished to a very high standard. We particularly liked the decor in the master suite. Our sons - aged 14 and 22 - loved having double beds to themselves! The outdoor area is just perfect for outdoor dining, being large, private and conveniently located. Our only difficulty was with lack of places close at hand for a quick dog walk without getting into the car, and a lack of pavements in Crantock - both of which were issues for our nervous dogs - but that is not the fault of the cottage itself. We had an issue with the electric hob on our first morning but this was resolved quickly by our being sent a temporary plug-in hob. I believe the owner has a permanent solution in hand. Cranrock itself is exceptionally beautiful, and although busy in high season, it's worlds away from the chaos of nearby Newquay. Dining can be a bit of a problem, so where possible it's advisable to book restaurants well in advance, or turn up early for the Jam Jar pizza restaurant. Make sure you get food in as as back up! Overall, we had a fantastic stay, and we would love to think we will visit again one day.
