  • "We had a lovely stay at Crantock Lodge."

It is a very cosy, comfortable holiday property. It is in an ideal location to visit the many beautiful coastal towns and villages of Cornwall. Crantock Lodge is in walking distance of a lovely beach about a 10-15 minute walk, partly steep. Take a trolley if you have lots of items to carry. Three double bedrooms, however one is very small with very little room around the bed. Parking is for two cars only, best to reverse onto the drive as the property is on a road that is busy during the day. You have to leave access to the house behind Crantock Lodge at all times.

  • "Great location x been staying in crantock for 25 years using Sykes cottages for past 7 years in various properties."

Property lovely but needs a thorough cleaning to rear garden. We had a problem with a mouse in the kitchen in wall cavity that kept us awake at night and drove our dog mad. Sykes cottages dealt with matter very quickly and owner of cottage came out with pest control who put a bait box outside in rear garden. Unfortunately the mouse was not caught so the sleepless nights continued!

Parking was a plus Just a couple of things - oven racks were not clean - outside garden needed a bit of TLC - lack of cushions and umbrella for the outside furniture to make it more comfortable to sit out when it’s warm and sunny Overall the property was very good and we had a lovely stay.

  • "This is a nice clean well appointed property in an excellent location, just a few minutes walks from Crantock beach."

The property is on a main road so there is some traffic noise. There were strange noises throughout our stay, reported to the agents, possibly rats under the floor boards and possibly birds in the loft space. This was very disturbing, at times, particularly to our dog. The main en suite bedroom is lovely and spacious but the other 2 bedrooms are rather small. The internal doors are not well fitted and some of them do not close properly. The door handles are very squeaky which can disturb other guests at night time.

Thank you for your comments and review. We have investigated the noises .thank you for bringing them to our attention and pest control have been called to investigate and set some traps in case mice have managed to get under the floor . The property has some flat roofing and being near the sea, gulls do land and make some noise occasionally but nothing more . Thank you for comments re door handles and we have actioned maintenance immediately . We hope you enjoyed your stay regardless of these small niggles , we pride ourselves in sorting issues as soon as they present Property Owner

  • "The property was exactly as advertised."

It was spacious, clean and comfortable . The only issue we had was the lighting. My husband especially found reading in the evening difficult as the main lights are quite dim. There is a reading light, but this could only be used by one person at a time. It would be nice brighter lamps could be provided, or LED bulbs replacing the low energy bulbs. That was the only minor issue we had. It was chilly when we visited in April but the property remained warm and cosy. Would definitely book again in the future.

Love the closeness to the beach & local amenities. Both my husband & I found the master bed uncomfortable but perhaps personal choice of mattress firmness. My only feedback is around recycling, which I’ve seen commented on here. This still isn’t an option & feel this should be prioritised. It’s not good enough to not have in place. We need to ensure we play our part in ensuring we are all doing our bit for the environment.

  • "This was our second time staying at this property and once again it didn't disappoint."

We stayed as a family of 6. 4 adults and two children and then a small dog. The patio area outside is lovely to sit out and secure also with a dog. We were blessed with the weather so were able to sit out most nights. There is a small bbq which is available to use. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked with utensils and pots/pans etc, there are even dog bowls for use. I've seen other reviews commenting on the smaller 2nd bedroom. It is a little tight in there but is plenty big enough for a night's sleep. There is little storage in the two rooms but the master bedroom has a large double wardrobe so we just used that if needing extra storage. The house is in a great position for walking down to the shop/pubs and beach. It is also opposite the village hall, which has a field and small play park for the children and now some fitness equipment also. Overall we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

  • "The house is generally as described but the two bedrooms are very small and there is insufficient space to unpack and store clothes in each bedroom."

We stayed with 4 children aged 9, 11, 12 and 14. One of the bedrooms was extremely small and not really suitable for two people to share. The main bedroom is lovely with ample space and a comfortable bed. The en-suite is small but perfectly adequate. The main shower room is in need of some updating. The shower door needs a new seal to prevent water leaking out of the shower when in use- this was a major issue for 4 children using the shower as the floor was continuously soaking wet. The kitchen is a good size and has all the necessary facilities other than a tumble dryer which made it difficult to dry towels and swim suits especially with 4 children. The weather didn’t always permit drying outside so a dryer would improve things considerably. The main lounge is lovely although the sofas are small and it is a tight squeeze to sit 6 people all at once. The Tv does not have freeview channels - it is a smart tv so it’s possible to access all the usual apps. The outdoor space is pleasant enough. It is all decked. There is a large table and chairs, a small bbq and a clothes line. It would be a much more comfortable experience if there were cushions for the outdoor chairs as they are very heavy wooden chairs that aren’t particularly comfortable. Also, a couple of sun loungers with cushions would be a good idea to relax properly in the garden. Overall, we had a lovely holiday at Crantock Lodge and would return as the location is fantastic - very close to the village and beach enabling us to walk everywhere.

  • "The pictures make the property look a lot nicer than it is - the sofas in the living room are not the same - they are much smaller and uncomfortable and do not sit 6 people."

All of the furniture in the living room and dining room is very tired and grubby. The master bedroom was really lovely apart from the fact it had a really bad damp smell...even after opening windows and spraying air freshner this smell did not go away. Location of the house was perfect - close to the beach and the pubs. The kitchen was very well equipped.

We are sorry you weren't as pleased with your holiday as we would have liked. We endeavour to repair/ replace damage made to furniture as soon as possible but this isn't always possible during the busy summer season. I will note your comments as part of our annual maintenance schedule. The musty smell has been dealt with but can assure you doesn't come from the actual house which has had extensive damp work very recently as part of our last maintenance closure. I glad you enjoyed the kitchen equipment and do hope you will visit us again , we pride ourselves on the quality and design of our unique holiday home . Property Owner

  • "Very disappointed with 2 bedrooms, 1had only room for a double bed, when clearly it should have a single bed plus a wardrobe."

The 2nd bedroom had no wardrobe/chest of drawers, a single chair had to be removed to make room to walk around the bed. The mirror is so distressed, you can only see an outline in it, completely unfit for its purpose. The one piece of furniture in there was of no use for storing clothes etc. We enjoyed the rest of the house, but overall the lack of space in the bedrooms was a big problem.

I am sorry you were disappointed with 2 of the bedrooms, its always challenging as an owner to meet everyones needs .We hope that the photos and description accurately represent what we offer so my apologies that it wasn't evident and suitable for your party . The Lodge does have an eclectic mix of new ( beds) and antique furniture and decorative pieces which also means some beautiful old mirrors, there are plenty of clear glass mirrors in the property as well . Upon arrival we immediately noticed that the property's sofa was different to the one advertised. The sofa had a very low back and was not very comfortable. The lounge would benefit from two big sofas and a chair, the space can certainly take it. If there were 6 people the party the lounge would not sit 6 people comfortably. Couple of issues in the kitchen, the dishwasher door kept falling down (wouldn't stay ajar) and with it taking the plinth with it. A little bit of maintence needed. The kitchen really could of done with a tumble dryer as there is limited space to put a clothes airer. A couple of the windows were very difficult to open. Both beds 2/3 we very small with no wardrobes, just a couple of hooks. All in all a good property that just needs a little bit of maintenance. Would just say it would suit a family with children, rather than like our party 2 couples and a child.

  • "Crantock Cottage is by far the best place we have stayed at in Cornwall."

It is comfortable, relaxing, very well equipped and finished to a very high standard. We particularly liked the decor in the master suite. Our sons - aged 14 and 22 - loved having double beds to themselves! The outdoor area is just perfect for outdoor dining, being large, private and conveniently located. Our only difficulty was with lack of places close at hand for a quick dog walk without getting into the car, and a lack of pavements in Crantock - both of which were issues for our nervous dogs - but that is not the fault of the cottage itself. We had an issue with the electric hob on our first morning but this was resolved quickly by our being sent a temporary plug-in hob. I believe the owner has a permanent solution in hand. Cranrock itself is exceptionally beautiful, and although busy in high season, it's worlds away from the chaos of nearby Newquay. Dining can be a bit of a problem, so where possible it's advisable to book restaurants well in advance, or turn up early for the Jam Jar pizza restaurant. Make sure you get food in as as back up! Overall, we had a fantastic stay, and we would love to think we will visit again one day.
