  • "1. Very clean, very comfortable and fantastic views - excellent 2."

Complete lack of documentation for washing machine left us having to search the internet for a user guide so we could retrieve our washing. 3. Also no documentation for the hot tub so we were left pushing buttons to try to get it to pulse etc. This meant that by the 4th day we had a warm tub rather than a hot tub. 4. Drain for the shower was partially blocked so risked flooding the bathroom. 5. A label on the waste disposal switch would be useful. 6. Finally had a real fight to get the key box open.

  • "Appreciated the welcome pack, thank you."

Would have been useful to know there was a washing machine and hair dryer available. The lodge was very comfortable but not luxurious, showing signs of wear and tear. This was particularly the case with the outdoor furniture, especially the table and chairs, which were covered in green algae. I contacted Reception and suggested a quick jet wash to solve the problem but it didn’t happen, neither did a new bulb for the bedside table lamp which was also requested. We enjoyed our stay but maintenance to the property is needed.

  • "Lodge is as described but feel there is room for improvement."

Having read reviews & people say this is the best lodge that they have stayed in at Southern Halt, it makes us wonder about the other lodges & causes us concern as we have booked a different lodge later in the year. The decking area was a disgrace, all the outside furniture, i.e the cushions, were stained & dirty with green algae. it could all have done with being pressure washed at the start of the season as from reviews it seems this has not been done for quite some time ! There is a gas bbq pushed into a corner which is a messy, rusty eye sore & covered in ivy. As bbq's are not allowed on the site,we feel this should have been removed ! The outside area did not look welcoming. We spoke to Christine & she sent up some throws for us to use to be able to sit out...she , along with the cleaners, were very helpful. It would have been nice if the windows were cleaned, lots of dirt & cobwebs on the outside. We did some laundry but couldn't get the tumble drier to work, as has been mentioned by a previous guest in their review, so a clothes airer would have been useful...there is plenty of storage in the wardrobes for one to be kept. It is a lovely lodge but feel there re some areas that let it down. The interior could also do with a freshen up....some curtains stained, etc.

  • "Just returned home from a wonderful 7 night stay."

We have had a fantastic time, the lodge is beautiful, we felt really comfortable and at home. The lodge was lovely and clean on arrival, little welcome pack left with some essentials ( fairy liquid/cloths/few dishwasher tabs, 1 pint of milk in the fridge) the view out to the fields in this particular lodge is gorgeous plus the hot tub looking out to the views is amazing. The hot tub was checked/cleaned daily too by the site. The lawned area is not fully enclosed ( worth knowing if you have a doggy who would be tempted to go off investigating ) but was fine for our dog as he doesn’t go far anyway & loved relaxing outside enjoying the views too :-) loved the open plan kitchen which includes a washer/dryer & dishwasher. If there was one thing to mention its the outside furniture cushions ( they are just left outside - so damp/dirty) such a shame as they are nice thick cushions. Maybe a lockable storage box for them to go in or something. We were lucky enough for the weather to be mild for New Year so would have happily sat on the l-shape rattan sofa, but didn’t because of the cushions, but there is also a dining table/chairs plus the lovely hot tub outside So didn’t spoil it. The outside areas around the site are very clean too & well maintained. The site is also in a good location to get in the car and visit the lovely places around Cornwall. Would 100% return to this lodge and stay again, its also great to stay in dog friendly accommodation that is clean/well maintained too. We can’t wait to return. Thank you :-)

!! A welcome pack which was embarrassing for the money paid and dirty outside cushions, green with mould from being outside in all weather's and quite unusable. A real shame and a holiday spoiler.

  • "We traveled as a group of 3 adults and a 17 month old."

The lodge was absolutely perfect and a little slice of heaven. It’s wonderfully quiet and we had the most amazing view from the hot tub across the countryside. The hot tube was also very well maintained and the baby enjoyed going ‘ swimming ‘ every day! As most people have mentioned you will definitely need to take towels and although there is a washer/dryer, I found the dryer part difficult to use and gave up! ( after searching the internet for help ) The decking area at the front of the lodge is fully enclosed which was great as it meant the baby and dog couldn’t escape but it is worth noting the rear garden is not secure and in fact a number of people walked through the end of the garden which is a little awkward!

A little bit dirty upon arrival but nothing too bad. Also could do with supplying extra towels as 1 pp seems not enough when showering and using the hot tub daily. Outdoor furniture could do with some tlc and a good clean. Facilities amazing. Would recommend.

Sitting in the hot tub watching the sunrise was awesome. Everything you need for a break away in a very quiet site. The only thing that needs some attention is the hot tub cover is past it’s days. It’s broken and gets filled with water when it rains ,so it makes it very hard to lift off ,and the polystyrene from inside the cover , was floating in the tub. Lovely place to go and would highly recommend

The garden is listed as enclosed however its not at the bottom and people can walk though, this wasn't great when we were outside in the hottub. We asked for another toilet roll as ran out at 8pm and was told to go off site to spar. However overall amazing place.

  • "What a great location, private and quiet."

The area surrounding the Southern Halt is beautiful; a local Spar shop and pub in the village proved handy. Liskeard is only a short drive away for everyday essential shopping/items. The property is spacious and in good condition; some signs of early ‘wear and tear’, nothing major though. I understand the property is almost one year old. The windows require an urgent clean, both inside and out. Various hand marks/smears and spider/fly webs are present... The kitchen area is well equipped and relatively clean, various smudges and unnecessary cloth smears across the stainless steel items. NB. The toaster is broken (two of the four slice compartments are jammed). The utility cupboard was equipped with additional cleaning items; bucket, mop, vacuum and a iron and ironing board. (I did email Sykes ahead of our holiday to determine if an iron and ironing board were available, I received a reply stating they were ‘regrettably not...’). NB. There is also a washing machine/dryer at the property, this is not listed in the Sykes site/advertisement online. The bedding and towels were beautifully clean and soft, no offensive laundry smells. The hot tub is opposite both bedrooms at the rear of the property, it has an audible humming sound as it operates to maintain the filtration system. It was annoying and effected our sleep. (TIP: switch it off overnight ONLY... electric fuse box in the main bedroom wardrobe). Neil, the hot tub operative visited every day including Christmas Day, he was friendly and engaging. We stayed at Christmas time, the main room was dressed with an artificial tree. No other decorations were in place; there was no reference to Christmas at all in the welcome pack, not even a greetings card with a seasonal message. A small carton of Cornish locally produced milk was left in the fridge.

It was so lovely. So peaceful. So romantic and just relaxing. It was secluded enough to feel like home away from home. We booked this holiday Saturday & arrived on Monday and it seems the doors have been broken for a while, I would have appreciated knowing this prior to booking so as I would have had the option to book a different property

Only things I would like mention are : key pad on entrance gate to Southern Halt was very temperamental ( esp the number 1 key ) the gravel driveway takes getting use to... esp going up and down slopes please these points are only minor and did not hinder our holiday , put we saw people struggle with the key pad..

  • "The chalet was warm, comfortable and very clean, the views were wonderful."

My Mum and I were troubled by a few things: It would have helped to have a receptionist to greet us and show us how to work the appliances. The shower mat for the bathroom was unable to stick properly with the suction pads, so I slipped and badly bruised my leg in the bath trying to shower. The dishwasher didn’t work, even when the plumber was called out. The washing machine door was firmly locked, and even when I referred to the instruction manual the door could not open, so we weren’t able to use that. These issues were a problem and disappointing. I hope they can be resolved for future customers. Anne Hindle
