Julie(The Owner) was very easy to communicate with and left really great instructions on where to park and accessing the property. It was really thoughtful to leave milk, coffee, tea the biscuits were a hit with children aswell. The cottage was decorated beautiful and cupboards well stocked for self catering. The property was clean and beds comfy. There was lots of info provided on places to eat. A lovely break and would stay again

  • "The attention to detail that Julie puts into the property was amazing, from board games to beach kit, wind breakers, towels for soggy dogs by the door, milk in the fridge with biscuits so you can have a cuppa on arrival."

Very close car parking space, Internet spot on, TV and Amazon prime films to watch. Rooms were well thought out with everything you need. Beds were really comfortable with a nice sized shared family bathroom. Stairs are windy but there are plenty of things to grab hold of to help you up and down which might be reassuring for older folk who are looking. Very good communication from the owner Julie. Overall we all had an amazing stay in a beautiful cottage in our favourite Cornish location.

Thanks for the fantastic feedback Phil. I’m delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Curlews and really pleased that you appreciated the effort that has been put in to help guests enjoy their stay. Looking forward to having you stay again. Very best wishes, Julie. Property Owner

Loved the special touches, such as fresh milk and cornish biscuits! The children's room is brilliant! The attention to detail for things that people staying there may need is fantastic, such as beach items, trolley for luggage etc.

  • "Just got back from our stay at Curlews Cottage which is cosy and well appointed, perfectly located for both the harbour to the rear and the shops and restaurants turning left as you step out with parking close by which was a bonus."

Plenty of places to eat out, we enjoyed the Sunday carvery at the Smugglers Cott just 1 minute from Curlews, very good food but note they do not allow four legged friends and you need to book in advance as popular. Also just a stroll from the cottage is The Lookout where we enjoyed a good breakfast, same thing do book even in off-peak as they get busy. All in all an enjoyable break away, would recommend.

Many thanks for the great feedback Jacqueline. I’m delighted that you had a good time and were pleased with Curlews. I hope to welcome you back again. Best wishes, Julie Property Owner

  • "Lovely property, not been in too many rental before and did not expect to have to buy more toilet rolls and washing up liquid, but that was OK."

They have done really well to squeeze everything into a relatively small space, I am glad the weather was good and we didn't need to all sit in the property for long / all evening as the space was very limiting for 6 of us and the dog.

Thank you for your feedback Amanda. I'm sorry to hear that there were not enough toilet rolls and washing up liquid. I have just had a change of housekeeper, so I will let her know your comments. I haven't received any previous complaints about the size of the property, but admittedly the downstairs living space is a little cosy for six people and a dog. I am glad to hear that you liked the property though and I hope this did not affect your break. Best wishes, Julie Property Owner

  • "Lovely house, lovely stay."

We even had teabags, biscuits and milk on arrival which is a lovely touch after a very long journey. Only feedback would be that a baby gate for the top floor stairs (outside children’s bedroom) would be ideal. I was very uneasy worried that they may tumble down them if they awoke before us.

Hi Rebecca, many thanks for your feedback. I'm so glad that you had a good time at Curlews. That's a good suggestion regarding the stairgate, I will order one. Best wishes, Julie Property Owner

The property

Curlews Cottage is a three-storey period townhouse, situated in the middle of the town, very close to the beach, harbour and shops, set back in a quiet courtyard.

It is situated in the middle of the town yet resting in a peaceful setting.

On entering the property you come into the open plan living area, with dining area, kitchen and cosy lounge with electric real flame-effect fire, perfect for relaxing in the evening.

Off the lounge is a doorway leading you up a steep and winding staircase to the first floor, with a well furnished double bedroom and stylish family shower room with a large rain shower.

There is also an additional cloakroom on this floor.

On the second floor there is a beautiful double bedroom with a painted stone feature wall, complete with rooftop views looking out to the Looe hills.

There is also a light and airy twin bedroom with two full-sized single beds; this room is packed with toys, games and books to occupy the younger guests in the group.

Looe has a wealth of public houses, restaurants and a traditional fishing harbour, the second largest in Cornwall.

If you want to try your hand yourself, there are plenty of boating and fishing trips available during the season.

Another boat trip well worth considering is to visit the stunning Looe Island, a natural sanctuary for birds and local wildlife.

This small but characterful town boasts two beaches with natural rock pools, caves and woodland walks.

Enjoy a trip on the Bodinnick Car ferry to Fowey then head to St Austell for the famous Eden Project and Heligan gardens.

The stunning coastline and the South West Coastal path, which Looe is situated between, is waiting to be explored.

With so much to see and and do locally, Curlew Cottage makes an ideal destination whatever the time of year.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

LOOE

Polperro 5 miles.

Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. You can also catch the river taxi between East and West Looe. East Looe has narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleyways and plenty of tourist shops, whilst West Looe has a lovely outlook across the harbour. Looe’s viewpoint, Banjo Pier, can be reached from the quay and is a great spot to watch the returning fishing trawlers and look across the bay to Looe Island, which can be walked to occasionally at very low tides. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. There is also a great rock pool area at Hannafore that children will love. West Looe has a Heritage Centre that recently opened in the Old Sardine Factory with a climbing wall and a cafe and the delightful Kilminorth Woods have way marked walks through the majestic oak wood, rich in plant, insect and bird life. Apart from beach activities in this part of south east Cornwall, there are many mining remains on Bodmin Moor and in the Tamar Valley and much of the mining landscape has World Heritage status. This area of Cornwall has inspired writers, such as Daphne du Maurier and much of Bodmin Moor has inspired legends linked with King Arthur. There is much to explore in this beautiful part of Cornwall.
