  • "The cottage is beautiful, very clean and a great find."

But a few things could be changed to make this property great, firstly cream carpets everywhere for a ‘dog friendly’ property made me really anxious and feel like this could be laminate flooring downstairs or make it not dog friendly, when we went to hoover at the end of our trip the hoover absolutely stank like wet dog and wasn’t picking dirt up properly. The beds were so uncomfortable, we tried both beds and in the end decided to use the single mattresses on top of the double bed, not ideal, but the mattresses were so hard it felt like you were sleeping on the floor, maybe invest in some better mattresses. Must say the towels and bedding were all lovely and clean. Also the hot tub really needs daily maintenance for a holiday let, after 3 days we couldn’t use it anymore as the water started to really smell, which was a shame because that’s what we booked the cottage for. Just some small touches like a floor Matt would be nice as you walk straight into the property as when it’s wet it’s really slippery, and a a sponge to wash up and some shelves in the bathroom would all be great. Despite all this we really did love the cottage and was nice and central for everywhere in Cornwall.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage. Currently the carpets aren't going to be changed, the carpets are shown in the pictures we have on the website. We will check the mattresses but can confirm that one of them is currently being replaced. The hot tub is regularly cleaned and maintained. The hoover has been replaced. We are very glad that you enjoyed the cottage and we do hope that we can welcome back again for another stay in the future. Property Owner

  • "Lovely Property, had a great stay."

Facilities were fantastic, hot tub was a great addition along with the outdoor area for the dogs. Would recommend this house to anyone wanting a nice relaxing break. Some additional points: Hoover smells very bad. Upstairs bedroom on the right, door locked on itself when closed from the outside, so handle didn’t work and just kept turning. Not sure if the lock was caught but could be dangerous for children. More teaspoons needed. Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "A lovely property tucked away at the edge of a hamlet along a track."

If you want rural then this is great with a few minutes drive to Truro. A great base to go see a variety of touristy places. After a day of sightseeing we jumped into the hot hub and enjoyed the peace and quiet, watching the stars. A great place to relax. With good wifi and sky sports and sky cinema it was lovely just to chill for the day when the British weather wasn’t good in mid October. The cafe Bon Appetite in the hamlet was popular with the kids and is a cyclists pit stop for some lovely food.

  • "The property was not clearly signposted, this needs to be addressed."

The cottage itself is lovely and the positive points are... towels and bedding were clean and the hot tub fantastic, albeit there were no instructions and was just trial and error to get it to work as the control panel was stuck in german mode. However, we were very disappointed on entering the property as it was unclean. Dried on food in the oven, around the bin and on the place mats, something undesirable stuck on the work surfaces. Drink stain on the wall in the lounge, dust on surfaces, dirty carpets, food left in freezer. Outside area the grass had been replaced with stone, lots of weeds, shed and outside kitchen had lots of cobwebs, just needed a good brush round, weeding and tidying. If this property is to be 'cleaned' to this standard in between guests, it will very very quickly become unpleasant, which is a shame. As it currently stands, I would not recommend this cottage based on its uncleanliness.

Thank you for completing your feedback. We are in the process of providing a sign for the property. We are sorry that you encountered some cleanliness issues during your stay. Had we been made aware of the issues at the time we would have done all we could to rectify things during your stay. The patio has been pressure washed and the outside area has been weeded and tidied. Property Owner

  • "We were over the moon on driving up and entering the drive and garden which looked lovely and it was a beautiful sunny day."

On entering the property tho we were gutted arrival although we were 20 minutes early. On walking in the place smelt terrible of bleach so at least it was clean but then an overwhelming dog smell which we have since found out is the hoover so it needs cleaning desperately. The windows were smeared inside and needed cleaning, dead flys around most windows, greasy finger prints on kitchen doors the outside kitchen had cobwebs everywhere which in our eyes as a major plus point of the property having outside entertainment space should be clean and issuable upon arrive without having to deep clean. We raised this with the chap who came to sort the hot tub but it was left. Over all we have had a lovely holiday and it’s a beautiful home but to have to clean on arrival we were upset. There also isn’t any instructions for anything, hot tub or how to turn on the outside kitchen area lights which we worked out but a simple note to inform guests would be good. The outside area lights kept tripping off and we reported it immediately but we could use the bbQ area the entire holiday it was rubbish trying to cook in darkness was impossible so we missed out on the ambient lighting for our nights there which has ruined it having 2 kids that were sleeping and we wanted to use the out door area to chill out rather than go out.. the beds were comfy as anything bedding brilliant. Over all we are massively disappointed as the main reason we booked this was the outside space. We found a draw with a few leaflets in to tell us a few bits in the area but we feel a welcome pack would be a great idea at this point for the money I’m not sure we will return but it was ok

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry that you encountered some issues during your stay, all issues have now been addressed. Had you made us aware of the cleanliness issues on arrival we would have done all we could to rectify things for you. An information folder will now be provided. Property Owner

  • "Firstly I will start with the good points."

A delightful Cottage in a very quiet hamlet an easy drive from local towns and the coast. The garden is beautiful and the hot tub was incredible. We enjoyed spending every evening in it. The lounge is a really cosy room and despite it being a wet and cold week in March, we were lovely and warm. When we arrived we quickly discovered that the cottage had not been properly cleaned. The bathroom was clean but the kitchen work surfaces were dirty, carpets were dirty and we found a large spoon in a kitchen drawer covered in dried food. In the freezer was an ice tray with bits of dried food in it and the freezer drawers needed a good clean. After a thorough hoover and clean up, we tried to contact the owners but sadly there is no phone reception there. It was only on day 2 when I spoke to a neighbour that through him we were able to contact the owners as we had a problem with a kitchen tap which was quickly rectified. He was also very apologetic about the lack of cleanliness. Despite this, we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly return. One suggestion, the kitchen needs a potato peeler and jug. We cooked dinner one night and had to make gravy in the teapot!

Thank you for your feedback. All points raised have since been remedied. Property Owner

  • "Fruit like type flies – When arriving at the property, we found about 300-500 flies on the window sill in the dining room, this is not something you want to see when arriving on holiday and also should not be your first action to look for a hoover and clean up, I was really disappointed with this and no matter how many times you cleaned them up they would be back 3 or 4 hours later, we also found flies in the bedrooms and lounge but it made the dining room not usable due to the smell and the fact flies would drop in your dinner."

It’s really disgusting, and it set a bad precedent or the rest of our stay at 1 Woodlands. Hot Tub – After the first two nights of using the hot tub we noticed the smell was really bad and this indicated it needed chlorine, our request was ignored by Sykes to get someone to add chlorine which prompted me to go out and buy testing strips and chlorine myself, this came up to 20 pounds and I expect to be refunded for this, the first test strip indicated no chlorine was present in the hot tub, this meant the hot tub was not treated properly and indicates poor quality. After 3 days we noticed red spots on my partner and my daughter, and this is the result of bad water quality in the hot tub. It’s unacceptable not to properly treat a hot tub which gets used by a lot of different people. I am so angry at this. The hot tub was one of the main reasons we picked 1 Woodlands and it became unusable after 2 nights whilst I balanced the Ph levels. Bromine Capsule was dirty and empty too. Garden – The grass in the garden was fenced off and we wasn’t told about this, we have an autistic child, and we could not allow him to play in the garden due to the massive poles and netting, this was disappointing. The bar has a lot of mould on it and is generally dirty, it’s not usable in this form and was a massive eyesore. No instructions in the house – There was no instructions in the house left to how to use the appliances or anything, so we had to learn everything by ourselves, this was a issue because we could never get the hot water to work properly and the water was either cold or luke warm, this was really frustrating and annoying. All we got in the form of paperwork was a contents list and hot tub rules, completely pointless. Internet – Internet kept dropping out which I understand we are in the middle of nowhere but at least state it in the advert when booking the property, so at least we are prepared for bad internet. Outside house – This was locked when advertised as usable in the booking ad, so we could not store anything in there. There was also a work van that kept coming onto the property to drop stuff off in the outside house and blocking our way. Just why? It’s frustrating, the road was hard to manage let alone a van coming onto every day to drop stuff off and making it really annoying for me to get pass him. Black mould in dining room – Don’t really need to explain this one, no one can eat when black mould sits a couple of feet away from your plate Conclusion – Whilst our actual holiday was good, the property was a massive let down. The property Is beautiful and stunning but its poorly managed and its sad to see. Therefore, I am asking for a 100 percent refund plus £20 back for the chlorine and testing strips (left at house) If this request is not approved, I’ll be seeking third party help and bank claims. I came to this decision after being ignored by Sykes and it is impacting on our holiday. The pictures on the booking page are completely different and its false advertising, line up my pictures with the booking pictures…. I also found small drops of which looks like blood on the pillows, I understand not everything is perfect but sometimes enough is enough. This house needs to be taken off Sykes and cleaned up a bit with the managing of the property being better, we left on the Thursday due to these issues and many more. Regards Chris Moore
