  • "Surfs Edge is located in very much the scruffy end of Polzeath."

We were surrounded by noisy building work and unsightly full skips and debris. The house had no soundproofing and every step could be heard in the floor below. Sleep was a challenge as the see through curtains were not fit for purpose and let in 100% of the light also not helped by security lights from house opposite which were on 24/7. Black out blinds are very much required. Although the sofas and cushions were great the cheap flat pack Argos beds were very uncomfortable and a disappointment when one is paying so much rent. As regular visitors to the area this is the most underwhelming and overpriced house we have ever rented. Unless you want a Lebanon meets Polzeath experience avoid at all costs!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. That area of Polzeath is incredibly popular for development currently so there are a number of projects around. We appreciate the frustration with them however. The owner of the property has spoken to the neighbors regarding the lights who have apologised and have since changed them, they had not realised how bright they were. Your comments have been passed on to the team here at John Bray Cornish Holidays. We hope you still managed to enjoy your visit despite these issues and would love to welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. • "We had a great week at Surf’s Edge."

It was perfect for 9 of us (3 generations) and a dog- very comfortable, spacious, stylishly furnished and wonderful location. It is very well-equipped and when we reported a faulty toaster to Bray’s they replaced it within hours. We’d love to go back one day. One suggestion - to provide some small soaps and at least one toilet roll per loo on arrival. Apart from that, all our needs anticipated. Thank you.

Thank you for your lovely comments regarding your stay at Surfs Edge, we are pleased that 3 generations had the enjoyment of a holiday together. We do hope to welcome you all back again very soon. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner Property Owner

  • "While this property is very nice, well positioned and nicely furnished there are several issues of which have affected our stay and need addressing as a matter of urgency."

The bed in my granddaughter’s bed had been held together with rubber bands which broke when she sat on it. I appreciate that after 2 days it was replaced by a folding bed with the mattress on it, no apology or explanation was given as to why the bed had been left in a poor state of repair was received. The decking is rotten in many areas and dangerous in a few (I have taken photos) with the wood collapsing in a number of areas causing rusty nails to be exposed and creating trip hazards, in one area it is obvious that the decking has collapsed and rather than repairing it properly it has been botched leaving the decking at an angle thus creating a trip hazard for elderly guests, the banister around the decking is completely rotten in a few places meaning it is not attached to the uprights again this is dangerous and I believe a health and safety issue . The hinges to flaps on the balcony table are broken and sharp, I assume the owners are aware of this as the flaps are held on with bungie cord. There are broken and missing tiles in the main bathroom with sharp edges, and there is no pull cord meaning that this light is permanently on. Many taps are loose throughout the property and cupboard doors not properly attached as well as broken and damaged crockery and glasses on the shelves and in the cupboards, the bent front door key mentioned by a guest in september 22 is still present in the accomodation and as mentioned by these guests no hand soap or cleaning products are available just empty bottles. One of the bed side lights in the annex cannot be plugged in as the flex does not reach the socket, this has been mentioned by previous guests but never remedied. The advice book in the annex gives a contact number for emergency contact, I contacted this number when the day bed broke, the couple who I contacted were surprised as they sold surfs edge 13 years ago, this I feel is an indication of the lack of care which the property is afforded by the current company which owns it. The property is in serious need of love and care before a guest is injured.

Thank you for contacting us regarding your booking at Surfs Edge. I apologise that you have had a delayed response in regards to this case, we want to reassure you that we take your feedback very seriousy and I can confirm that our maintenance team have visited the property on several occassions to investigate these issues. They have rectified any issues found and we have since had a number of guests stay who have not had any problems. As this is a coastal property, the severe weather conditions do affect the outside area and the wooden furniture or decking area does not last long after it has been replaced so this explains the deterioration you saw outside. We are grateful for your feedback and we will ensure that this is monitored closely, thank you Kind regards, Charlotte Customer Relations Team Property Owner

Quick walk along the lane to the village centre and the beach Lovely facilities within the house, I really didn’t want to leave. I would be very happy living here for the entire summer …..if only !

  • "What a beautiful property - we loved the contemporary style with the original art, cosy sofas and comfy beds."

Well-equipped kitchen and plenty of room for dining and lounging for our party of 10 people. We were blessed with a stunning sunset so the views from the balcony looking out to sea were wonderful, so we ventured into the sea on the cold December morning). Oyster Catcher pub was just a short walk (be prepared for a very steep hill) and plenty of other facilities in the Centre of the village. Only complaint was the water pressure in the shower room of the attached accommodation was low so came out as a drip. We had two people in our party who provide holiday properties, so they were extra vigilant in checking and thought it was a fantastic place to stay. Lovely neighbour who helped us deal with a flat battery in one of the vehicles.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's great to hear that you had such a fabulous stay at Surf's Edge and had the perfect base to explore the north Cornish coastline from! We hope to invite you back to North Cornwall. John Bray on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "'This is a nice house in a good location with a limited view of the sea."

It is well furnished, for the most part and has some lovely artwork (and mirrors). The heating is good and the WiFi works well. The house is advertised as accommodating twelve people. The dining table, however, seats only eight. It should be made clear that there is nowhere in the house that twelve people can sit together to enjoy a meal. The controls markings on the cooker were illegible / worn away. Even using the instruction booklet, it was very difficult to know how to use it. We had no idea what temperature the oven was at when we were cooking. The baking/roasting tray was filthy and needed extensive, thorough cleansing before we could use it. Some of the glasses were clean; most were not and some appeared not to have been washed for some time.. There was no steamer for vegetables: we had to improvise with a sieve. There were no tongs for cooking (e.g. sausages). The bedside light in the annexe barely reaches wall socket and we had to improvise. The hair drier plug was missing a pin. One set of front door key were bent and did not fit into the lock. There was almost no washing up liquid and there were no dishwasher tablets, or cloths for wiping surfaces. There was no hand soap in the bathrooms or kitchens'.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Regarding the meal seating, the owner has now purchased some benches so it now sits 12 and there is provision for 4 more in the annex. The cooker control markings have now been replaced, along with the broken hairdryer. Also, the owner has now purchased tongs and a vegetable steamer! . We have raised the cleanliness issues you have raised to out housekeeping team for future reference. Even though it is a self-catering holiday, you should have a few of these basic provisions such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and hand soap to start you off on your holiday. We hope you still managed to enjoy your visit despite these issues and would love to welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. • "We tried reached out at the start of our stay and were promised you would contact us about the horrendous parking situation."

The fact that the property is surrounded by construction and demolition not 'building works' The constant deliveries of concrete and removal of hardcore 3 inches from our dissented parking place while your defender not only blocks the view from kitchen but took safe comfortable place. You were arriving for a 2 week stay as we were forced to leave by 09.30 am We vacated and still no contact. Without a doubt you can see and hear from your neighbours who stressed concerns for our stressful stay. My husband left after 2 days however myself and our 2 sons had no choice but to stay I look forward to a refund and have successfully opened a case with our vacation company. Its disgraceful you charged full rates with the knowledge of the building sites that surround your holiday let We have the more accurate views from each window and videos of noise levels which start at 6 am in the morning

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so sorry that the construction works surrounding the property gave you such issues during your stay. We have been speaking to and working with the owners to limit the impact of these as much as we possibly can although construction works are out of our direct control. Regarding the check out time of 9.30, this is the same for all of our guests regardless of if another party will be arriving later that day or not. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we hope we can welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future for another stay. - John Bray Cornish Holidays On Behalf Of The Owner. Property Owner
