  • "We had a fantastic time."

The dogs felt at home, everything was in such a great working order, the apartment wasn’t too far from all the beaches and the people on site were lovely. Only downsides were having to book a slot for the swimming pool so I never got to go and missing out on the dinner in the on site pub as they kept closing early, but that isn’t down to the property itself. The people that owned it were very good at replying to emails and the cleaners were so lovely. Would definitely go again!

Thanks Natasha, glad you had a good experience. Regards Robin Property Owner

  • "Surf Song is an extremely spacious modern apartment inside a converted Manor House that dates back almost 400 years."

Tastefully decorated and furnished to a high specification, with a kitchen that was fully equipped with everything we needed, including a microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. The other rooms in the apartment are of the same standard. The beds were very comfortable, we all felt well rested each morning. Communication was exceptional between us the owner and the managing agents of the property. We stayed here during a violent storm, the owner was in regular contact with us, and could not have done enough for us. Would highly recommend Surf Song

Thanks Monica; we appreciate you taking time to give feedback, especially as we have had some unavoidable problems recently. Property Owner

  • "We are appalled by the lack of response and the extreme difficulty of contacting Sykes during our stay."

We had three serious and one very serious problem with the apartment during our stay. 1) No hot water when we arrived. 2) No instruction or idea on how to deactivate the burglar alarm, inadvertently triggered whilst searching for means of turning on the hot water. 3) A very serious leak in the roof during a rain storm, where the water was pouring through the electric light fitting in the entrance hallway and above the second bedroom doorway. 4) Despite turning off the storage heaters, they remained on and very hot during our entire stay. This meant that we had to keep the windows open the entire week as a means of keeping the temperature to a tolerable level. This also led to us leaving the apartment a day early due to the discomfort. We travelled home on the 8th October, not the 9th. I attempted to contact Sykes for all of these issues above and on many occasions. The phone lines were either completely dead, or when it would connect, rang for at least 15-20 minutes each time before cutting off. On the first of two occasions when someone finally did answer, a message was taken and the owner himself phoned me back (from Bermuda!) 5 hours after the first incident. With the code he gave me, I was able to deactivate the burglar alarm. He told me he would send someone to sort the hot water for us, but no-one arrived. We therefore had to switch on the "full rate" switch next to the hot water tank, which seemed to eventually provide us with hot water. This would not turn off again! I could only finally get hold of someone for the leak incident on the afternoon of the following day. I called first thing in the morning, but was cut off. Following the online instructions, I had raised a chat incident immediately the leak occurred, but apart from an automated confirmation of receipt, I never received any response from this. The person I spoke to in the afternoon said he would speak to his manager, but again, I never heard anything else until the cleaner called me on the Wednesday. I was surprised at this, as I assumed the issues we were having were house maintenance, not cleaning problems. It remained though that none of the issues were resolved during our stay. There are electrical problems with the property, and there is a serious leak in the roof. This is the first time that we have experienced not only so many problems, but such difficulty in contacting anyone for help. The apartment itself is really lovely, but our holiday was spoilt by the time we spent trying to get things sorted that should not have been our problem, and the fact that we felt frustrated and ignored. I'm afraid we are very unimpressed, especially considering the severity and potential life-threatening nature of the leak. Had we been out and attempted to either activate the light switch for the light fitting through which the water was pouring through, or slipped in the dark in the water covering the floor, things would have been very serious indeed!

So sorry that you not only experienced all these problems but that help and resolutions were not forthcoming in a timely manner. Responding to all the complaints will not rectify anything but I will just mention the cleaners are also retained property managers of the highest caliber and we aim to have the leak rectified as soon as possible. Thank you again for your comments. Property Owner

  • "We were unable to take up the holiday accommodation due to the recent petrol crisis and the distance we had to travel and might potentially run out of petrol."

We were also concerned that we would be stranded in Cornwall with no means to return home if the national petrol crisis was not resolved. I notified Sykes contact centres and spoke to two contact centre agents that provided no resolution but we were told that there was nothing they could do and that it was my problem. Sykes Cottages didn't even offer a compromise. We feel cheated, and will never use your organisation again.

As the owner, this feedback was the first time I was aware of Mr Davies concerns. Having now contacted him they were offered an alternative stay which has now been accepted for later this month. Property Owner

Bar, cafe and pool were shut every wednesday, we had my sister with us who is really ill was depending on using hot tub/sauna so she did not have to walk far but this was not possible and no communication from Sykes or person that owns place we stayed in. Going through hell to try and get this resolved. We as a family would never reccomend or use sykes ever again.

  • "Really nice apartment… very well furnished and clean Lots of space, and the Sky sports TV was a lovely surprise ."

Finding the WiFi code was a challenge… so would ask that the owner references this in the user guide. For anyone reading this, I found it by locating the router (back of the Tv)

Thanks Andrew, we have had the WiFi code moved to a prominent position. Property Owner

  • "Surf Song Apartment was lovely, clean and comfortable."

All the Kenegie staff were lovely and helpful with local knowledge of activities etc however the Kenegie Manor complex did not meet our expectations. The bins were overflowing and the septic tank was leaking across the car park which smelt terrible.

Thanks for your comments Victoria. I will pass on to Kenegie management. I am sorry for the mess but local drivers were Covid positive so trash and sewage slow to be sorted. Robin Property Owner

  • "Very nice apartment."

Only gripe I have would be that the heating in the master bedroom did not work, not ideal in the winter. One other issue is the kitchen mixer tap --- if turned on,and you move the adjustable nozzle, it will spray water from a defective joint all over you.

So sorry Helen; we have stayed in December and know how cold the bedroom can get. A new storage heater is now in place and an electric blanket available if needed! Robin Property Owner

  • "No phone reception in apartment."

Paid for wifi but did not work on any device so had to get a refund. Then we found a manual that had the sky wifi password so all good. Manual should be left out on the coffee table or in the kitchen. It was upside down on a bookshelf at the back of the room & we only came upon it by chance. Hot water only lasted 2 showers - not good when apartment sleeps 4. Manual referred to a remote to switch on constant but we couldn't find it so we had to pull a bed out to access boiler in a cupboard in 2nd bedroom to switch it on. Overall the apartment was exceptionally clean with great facilities & a comfortable home from home. Just a couple of little niggles but ok once we'd sorted them out.

Thanks Christine, we have hopefully sorted the problems. There is a land line in four rooms guests are welcome to use... Robin Property Owner

  • "Spent a week in Surf Song towards the end of October 2019."

The weather was not the best but its a love part of Cornwall so we still got out and about. The apartment was wonderful. Warm, comfortable with all anyone could need for a home from home. Owner and house keeper very helpful and friendly. The adjoining park reception staff we also very helpful and friendly as were the staff in the pub onsite. Would definitely recommend this apartment 100%. If you do have dogs with you there are some fabulous walks and dog friendly places/pubs to visit around and about the area.

Thanks Jennifer. We are always glad to get positive feedback and will pass it on the the staff. Robin Property Owner
