  • "The farmhouse was easy to find and really convenient for everything we wanted."

Although quite basic inside it was perfect for what we wanted and once we were in and had unpacked it felt like home. Wonderful log burner, we got through a lot of logs! It would be nice to have a bit more furniture in the bedrooms, mirrors, dressing table, shelves or just a chest of drawers so we could put things away and a few rugs would be nice as the weather wasn't that great and it started to get a bit chilly and damp. Kitchen really well equipped, kettle a bit leaky! A fabulous holiday with friends and a nice place to stay. Great that we had the free parking places at the top of the hill so we could use the beach - which is AMAZING! Highly recommend the surf lessons.

  • "A lovely old farmhouse in a nice setting ."

Enough crockery and pans to cook for a big group. We were visited by two frogs about the size of a moth. They don’t do any harm. Maybe if people don’t like them some cheap solar lights by the doors would deter them. Approached by narrow winding roads with hedgerows, There is ample parking space on site we had four cars. You would have to drive if you need supplies or go for a day out. Roads so narrow you have to back down to allow oncoming cars to get past. Nearby beach is a challenge a deep incline to reach, a little cafe but no WC. Despite this we had quality time as a large family. Eight adults three children .

Everything you need there to enjoy your stay. The beach close by is amazing but is a hike to get up and down the steps, great that 2 parking spaces are available from the owners. Other places near by to enjoy.

  • "The property was large so perfect for our annual family holiday however in comparison to other properties it left a lot to be desired."

There was an immediate damp / musky smell in the living spaces and bedroom cupboards, and the carpets weren’t clean which was a concern as we had a toddler with us. When we arrived the house was basically empty save for a toilet roll in each bathroom and some hand towels. As the check in wasn’t until 4pm we assumed (as seen in other properties) a small welcome package of a handful of tea bags / coffee and some milk but there was nothing. From experience, we have expected at least the bare essentials for the first night especially when some of the party were travelling +6 hours by car. We had to buy hand soap for every bathroom, milk, sugar, salt, pepper, tea towels, dishwasher tablets, washing machine pods, dish soap, anti bacterial cleaning spray, sponges, bin bags, and cling film. We weren’t aware the garden was shared and felt overlooked by the people living in the attached / neighbouring property. However, the owners were nearby and helpful for anything that was needed which was handy and re-assuring, but definitely needed considering there was only one key available despite the booking being for 11 people. Finally, one of the houses locally had multiple dogs with almost constant barking and left dog mess frequently in the shared parking area which had to be cleaned up by our party. All of this took the shine from the holiday and we come to Cornwall every year but we won’t re-book this property which is a massive shame because it has the potential to be a beautiful holiday home / let.

Really enjoyed our stay but feel we needed chairs for garden (like last time) hand soap in all bathrooms, salt and pepper and basic cooking ingredients. We also missed toys and games for the kids but having said that will definitely come back again

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Tregonhawke Farmhouse."

It was very comfortable, with lots of room to spread out, and is very well stocked with everything needed for a larger group (plenty of cutlery, dishes, glasses, etc.). It is in a great location with a wide variety of activities in close proximity, and the garden at the Farmhouse is a wonderful spot to enjoy some quieter moment (with lots of room for children and dogs to run around safely). Mark and Rebecca were available for any questions and were happy to provide beach and pub recommendations when asked. Highly recommend!

  • "A musky, stinky, tired and tacky Farmhouse with little to be desired but the grounds it is set in."

Ill equipped for disabled users due to 2 steps from the kitchen into the disabled bedroom, sitting room and living room (which are not detailed on the advert). The farmhouse is tired and in desperate need of updating. Marks on the walls, carpets and floors. An open grid in the downstairs bedroom made the room smell mouldy. Open cavities in the skirting boards which allowed frogs to visit. Carpets stained and grubby looking, beds old and uncomfortable. Sofas sagging and dirty. Floors unswept. Kitchen table was tacky to the touch. And made worse by the fact there was no cleaning products to maintain the property during our stay. Simple things like kitchen spray, bin bags, salt and pepper and oil were missing. WiFi wasn’t very strong unless sat in the kitchen next to the router. Although physically close, the nearest shop was down a long and winding 60mph road with no footpaths. Which was dangerous with a disabled person and small children. The owners live directly opposite the property which we found intrusive. They have several large dogs which barked often. Overall very disappointing given the lack of cleanliness and lack of provision for disabled guests. We would not visit here again for free.

  • "We hired Tregonhawke Farm for my husband's 50th birthday celebration weekend."

We had multiple generations staying ranging from 1 to 80 years! The house was perfect for our needs. Spacious enough to give everyone enough room but the lovely Farmhouse Kitchen provided a great cosy, communal area and was well equipped. Also, high chairs and cots provided by the owners. The garden is beautiful and gets sun for most of the day, fortunately we were blessed with good weather. Also very quiet and peaceful. This is a beautiful, undiscovered part of Cornwall. Rame Head is a two mile walk along the coastal path from Tregonhawke and is stunning. Also, great walks around Mount Edgecumbe. Would also recommend Kingsand/Cawsand for a pint and The Canteen at Maker Heights for food. Thank you to Rebecca and family for hosting us - a great weekend, would definately recommend Tregonhawke Farmhouse

  • "Lovely location."

House on arrival was not in a great state of cleanliness. Kitchen cupboards were unclean and the glasses weren’t all clean. Dishwasher came in handy for this. Beds were super comfy and the bedding was spotless. You get what you pay for and for the price of the cottage I think it was very fair. We had a great family get together but a thorough clean would make all the difference. Our mother had a fall whilst there and a first aid kit would have been invaluable.

  • "Great stay, perfect for a family group."

Offered a flexibility of accommodation that suited everyones needs. Kitchen very well stocked with everything needed. Very well situated in a beautiful area and very close to the coast. Only negative was that some plates had the remains of food on them and the trays in the oven were extremely greasy. This could have been easily remedied if a small amount of washing up liquid and three dishwasher tablets for the three nights we stayed were provided along with a disposable dishcloth. However, we still had a fabulous time and would recommend the farm without hesitation.

Thank you for your feedback. Although we have cleaning strong protocol in place we are sorry to hear they failed on this occasion. Upon your suggestion, we now leave washing up materials for guests and have new and fantastic housekeepers. We are pleased to hear you had a lovely holiday and hope to welcome you back. Lights not working on the landing, kitchen equipment was dirty and on stripping the beds as advised, the horror of badly stained mattresses. I will be following this up with an official complaint as this is not anywhere near a 4 star property which it is advertised as. Also a health hazard due to the bat colony that roost in the neighbouring building and the bat droppings they deposit in abundance . Would be problem but it is at the entrance to the property which means you are walking it directly into the kitchen.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we take this very seriously. Please accept our apologies for the presence of bat droppings. We do indeed have bats roosting under the eaves of the adjacent property and we clean the droppings away regularly, but will do this more frequently following your comments. As you know, bats are a protected species, and we are unable to move them. With regard to your other comments, we were unaware there was an issue with the mattress, and surprised as it has recently been replaced. We will of course rectify this asap and thank you for bringing this to our attention. We do check the lights on changeover so I can only apologise if this bulb was missed. Finally, heating is available and we hope that guests will feel free to use this to feel comfortable during their stay. Property Owner

Unfortunately it soon became clear that the floors downstairs although had been washed (they were still wet) and smelt clean, were in fact filthy. After wiping up a spilt drink, the cloth turned black! It was then the same when we wiped the kitchen table- dirty again! If the place had taken nine hours to clean, this shouldn't have happened, not should we have found playing cards and Lego under one if the sofas in the playroom. There was a feeling of damp in most of the rooms and as the week went on, the damp smell got worse and the books we'd left in the play room were actually damp right through by the time we left. It was such a shame as the cottage was a great size and great location and we would have booked again, but I can't expect my parents and children to stay in such a damp house. It really needs sorting out!

The garden was large and safe for the children to play in and for all of us to sit and relax. The children loved playing in it . The dedicated car parking for Tregonhawke Farmhouse, at the top of Donkey Lane, was a bonus- a number of cars parked incorrectly on the road at the top of Treganhawke bay, were given parking tickets!!! A small suggestion would be the provision of a second TV somewhere in the house. The TV with DVD in the playroom was great for the children but no free view available on it and WiFi could be improved. However the weather was lovely and little tv watching was carried out. Free fishing, as advertised when we booked, was not available.

There was good parking, plenty of hot water and a TV which worked without resorting to multiple controls! The only downside was the lack of a drying room for our ( very) wet walking gear at the end of the day and no central heating controls, other than a thermostat which did not seem to activate the heating.

The property

A ten minute lane walk from Millbrook and from the big sandy beach at Whitsand Bay via a cliff path is Tregonhawke Farmhouse, the origins of which go back to the 16th cent.

It is set over two levels and has been a family home for generations surviving much turbulent history.

Enter from the garden through the porch, kicking off your coats and boots as you go into the big fitted farmhouse kitchen with table, chairs and benches in the middle; walk through to the equally big living room with wood burner and then across a slate-floored hall to a second sitting room with TV.

This room leads through to a double bedroom with door to garden.

At ground level is a shower-room and separate toilet.

Head up the stairs to five more bedrooms – a double with a single, a double, a twin with low door lintel, another twin, and a single – all very individual and prettily done.

Two family bathrooms.

To one side is a very pretty, enclosed garden with large lawn, garden furniture and BBQ.

Mature trees and farmland surround it and about a three minutes walk away there is a coarse fishing lake (carp, tench, roach, rudd, bream and perch – some as large as 25lbs!).

Absolutely great for large family group or groups of friends.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £350.
