  • "Our stay at the Miner's Rest was a lovely surprise."

A last minute booking to visit family and friends who live close by. Excellent communication with Vanessa. Lots of space in the house, we only used 1 of the three bedrooms. Clean and very comfortable with homely touches. Well equipped kitchen including dishwasher and washing machine. A good shower. A private dedicated car parking space at the back entrance. Very quiet at night. Supermarket a few yards away, very convenient, we used it each day. Chemist, P.O. and 2 pubs as well. Lots of tourist attractions not far away, as well as many beaches to choose from and beautiful country drives. There is the choice of taking the bus from here as well. Everyone around the village and the area were very friendly, a great stay with a comfortable home as a base.

  • "This property is an excellent choice if you want to go around various places in cornwall with lands end being just under an hour, penzance newquay in about half an hour."

The property is clean with basic stuffs available. You have 1 car parking at the rear courtyard. Pharmacy, londis and post office is under 100 yards of the property. Full equipped tv with netlfix and amazon prime. Some recommendation would be to have an instruction manual to operate the heating, dishwasher and dryer. Additional stock of loo rolls, dishwasher tablets. Also an image or drawing in the property pictures of the location or orientation of the car at the rear parking would be beneficial to the guests parking without creating any trouble to the neighbours who are very friendly and accomodating. All in all an excellent place to relax after your exhausting cornwall visit.

  • "We booked Miners Rest as it was near to where family live."

What a find! The property was perfect for five of us, it was clean and we were welcomed with a lovely vase of fresh flowers and cakes, a really nice touch. St Day has a couple of local shops and a chemist and post office and a lovely pub, all run by friendly staff. We would recommend staying here as you are so near Truro, St Ives, Falmouth but you come back to peace away from lots of holiday makers. A couple of miles away is a fantastic beach, Porthtowen with plenty of parking. We loved St Day and would definitely return. The owner was very helpful and easily contactable. Ten out of ten all round.

  • "Miners Rest is nice cottage situated in cute Cornish village."

It is 15-30 min drive from coast, parks and Truro which is very convenient. Small local shop down the road has good selection of local and branded goods, local pub near church has nice Cornish drafts. The cottage very clean with kitchen opening to garden with barbecue area, which is ideal for family b&q. We really liked our stay and will be back next year.

  • "Cottage was lovely we enjoyed our stay but there were a few things that would have made the stay even more amazing :- There were no waste bins outside to recycle or put our refuse, we contacted via email and had no response, so had to ring another number to try and get resolved, we were told to bag all rubbish and put in garden waste, so we couldn't recycle which was a shame."

The electricity went off during our stay looked like a PAYG meter we managed to get it back on, and when we phoned contact for the cottage they topped it up remotely great service here, but it could have been topped up before our stay possibly. There were not enough plug sockets or any extension leads we had to move bedside lamps around to suit and move an extension lead every day to fulfill our requirements, this may not be suitable for all guests. Don't get us wrong we enjoyed our stay and these are just recommendations for improvement, thanks again, Richard and Joanne

Hello Richard & Joanne, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in Cornwall. Thank you for highlighting the areas that we can improve for our future guests, we appreciate your feedback. Recycling is very important to us and we apologise as I don't think it was made clear enough in our information pack that any recycling should be left in a clear bag (which were left under the sink) to be sorted once you had left. I have now rectified this and left specific recycling bins for guests. Thanks again, I hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "The pictures were not what we got."

The whole cottage smelt of damp and needs redecorating everywhere was white washed and not in a good way. TV aerial wasn’t adequate so couldn’t get channels. No hot water in kitchen and the kitchen taps were leaking all over the surfaces . If the cottage was updated it would have been worth it but not worth what we paid.

Thank you for your feedback. The property has been fully redecorated. Someone was en route to look at the aerial but was told the problem was sorted, if there were any further issues we would have been happy to come out. Property Owner

  • "A great cottage in the heart Cornwall."

It was well equipped with new carpets and freshly painted throughout. The location was perfect for us and within easy reach of some lovely beaches, quaint villages and beautiful seaside towns. Easy to get to Falmouth, Newquay, Land's End and Hayle. Would recommend.

About the location

ST DAY

Porthtowan 5 miles; Portreath 6 miles; Truro 7 miles; St Ives 20 miles; Falmouth 10 miles.

St Day was once the mining centre for mid-Cornwall until nearby Redruth took over the title, and you can still see the terraces of granite cottages originally built for the miners. The village was originally named after the little known Saint Day or Dye (better known in Brittany). The village now has a pub and convenience store, as well as a granite, gothic-style church dating back to 1828. Six miles away is the popular village of Portreath which attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. High cliffs, secluded coves and sandy, surf-washed beaches typify the area while all around are reminders of the area's rich industrial heritage. Portreath offers a small fishing harbour, shops, a number of pubs, three cafés and a Chinese restaurant, while its safe, sheltered sandy beach is a popular attraction. For a great day out, visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum and great restaurants, just 7 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach, which leads down to Hayle and on to St Ives. A delightful holiday location.
