The walk to Crantock is spectacular but make sure you check the tide times first, walk along the stunning River Gannel Estuary, a tidal river which can be explored by kayak, canoe, bike or horseback, all of which can be hired locally.
If the tide is high and preventing walking along the sandy riverbed, take the ferry which has been running since 1910 from the Fernpit café to Crantock beach part of the National Trust, the café is known as Newquay's best kept secret and provides legendary crab sandwiches and is also well known for fresh homemade cakes, perfect to round off a day on the beach or even to pop up to for lunch.
