"The Abbey is such a lovely place."
We absolutely loved our stay there. We loved sitting in the drawing room of an evening with the fire going, it was my favourite room. I have a child with Coeliac disease so have to bake a lot, the kitchen is very well equipped which made cooking there a joy. We felt like we could really make it home for the week and didn’t want to leave. The owner was also amazing and went above and beyond when I called with an issue (which was very quickly solved), it was lovely to meet him. It really is an amazing place and I would definitely stay there again.

It’s a fantastic place and the 3 children in our group were enchanted (so we’re the adults!). The kitchen is incredibly well equipped (2 toasters, 2 kettles, 2 fridges). The garden is a delight.

"The Abbey was an excellent match for our planned family gathering, including its proximity to the home of other family members."
13 of us were easily accommodated in great comfort and we were all very impressed by the scale of the property, the decor, the amenities, and everyone had room to spread out and join up as and when we wanted. Jonathan was extremely helpful in assisting us on check-in, as was Charlotte when we were leaving. Parking was limited, as we knew beforehand but was manageable by using the nearby harbour car park. One of the 2nd floor bedrooms may benefit from a Wifi booster although occupants of other rooms did not experience an issue with internet access. Overall, we could not have asked for a better place to stay and we will certainly recommend it to others.

"What a beautiful house, very tastefully and stylishly furnished, and with plenty of space for us 5 couples, all had good rooms."
The kitchen is very well provided and the dining and living rooms comfy and spacious. We enjoyed the art collection too.
The location is great, with views over the harbour, and easy access to shops and pubs etc.
Would definitely recommend.

"We had originally booked the Abbey to celebrate our 70th birthdays with our 2 sons and their families."
Unfortunately the restrictions of the pandemic dictated that only 2 households could stay together, so my 2 sons shared the week with us, one coming on Saturday till Wednesday, and the other from Tuesday till Saturday. We went to a local hotel for the Tuesday night so that the 2 sons and their children could have a full 24 hours together. It was a compromise, bur was successful, and we were able to appreciate the luxury of The Abbey to the full. In the end, all the rooms were used one way or another. Michael and his wife were there and welcomed us in, and showed us how to use the various bits and pieces, and Thaddeus had organised the cot and highchair etc as requested. I cannot imagine a finer place to stay for a week. It was lovely.

"The house and gardens are wonderful, a time warp."
Great welcome. But what about the kitchen - the heart of any house! Industrial and cold it is not a place you want to spend much time in though we were keen to cook nice food. It is a remnant from the days when the house was a hotel, and no effort made to transform it into something more friendly and usable. The cooker requires 2 people to start it up, the dishwasher not working and tiny. That was disappointing.
Also disappointing the lack of care to sort out the continuously beeping alarm in the TV room which was locked and unusable. To find anyone to assist with anything proved difficult, the owner remained aloof and simply directed us to a box of keys and eventually we managed to sort the alarm ourselves, on day four. A little sad to feel this marvel of a house waiting to be taken care of and cherished.

"A really great house for a large party of 8 kids and 6 adults."
Beautiful garden and house and a great location. Kitchen is a bit tricky to use with commercial oven and dishwasher but still doable and makes it easy to cater for a large group. Make sure you take instruction on how to use the dishwasher! We had a great break in this beautiful area and lots of lovely family memories were made.

"Overall, The Abbey was very good for the number in our group."
The kitchen was a bit chaotic at times with people here, there and everywhere. There seemed to be no rhyme nor reason to where crockery and utensils were kept. The dishwasher wasn’t great. It would have been better to install one or two ordinary kitchen dishwashers. The gas cooker was so complicated to start up that we resisted a cooked meal till day 3.
The house was reminiscent of times gone by and would have been so decadent with a butler, cook and housemaid. We were using all the bedrooms which would have been earmarked for staff!
We all had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the house.

The house has a lovely atmosphere and we all felt at home very quickly. Plenty of space for everyone. Lots of good memories were made here. Many a good meal was made in the kitchen & enjoyed in the dining room. I can truly say that all nine of us didn’t want our week to end!

"This was an elegant house and a former hotel."
It was spacious and well equipped. It had an industrial kitchen (slightly tricky to use). The bedrooms were all generous in size. Some beds were very comfortable others less so. Lots of bathrooms. We were a party of 14,10 adults and 4 children, so the space was useful and we never felt crowded. We would have welcomed the opportunity to recycle paper, glass and cans. The garden was beautiful but a BBQ would have been welcomed. Penzance is more of an industrial port rather than a seaside resort. The Lido was excellent. Penzance had much to offer if you explored.
We could hear mice behind the wood panelling. The cleaner arrived at 8am although we had to check out by 10am. This made us feel under pressure, we has 5 cars with us and 2 were stained in the carpark nearby. Parking was really for 2 large cars or 3 small. We did park 3 cars but this blacked in 2.

"A lovely and fascinating building."
Great for a family weekend. Dining Room and Drawing Room have a lovely atmosphere with great log fires. The copious quantity of high end new magazines and interesting library a bonus. Top floor has a very steep staircase so some care required. Kitchen is a legacy commercial from days as a hotel but still very pleasant. Only negative was we agreed a slightly later departure with the housekeeper as we have elderly parents and a disabled sister in law. The message did not get through to the clrangers who arrived bang on 10 am and seemed a bit disgruntled. However we had a superb weekend in a lovely house. It ticked every box you could hope for.
