  • "Very clean place but dated."

There was issues with this place firstly the shower, if you are above 5.10 in height don't bother with a shower I'm 6.3 and the top of the shower head came to my chin, trying to hold it above my head was impossible because it fell apart and if you dropped the soap you could not bend down to pick it up cubicle to small the fan does not work so it was a strip wash every time. The oven was useless. The 10 minute walk to portisaac was a joke it took around 3/4 off an hour because it was not kept in a good walking condition it was well overgrown and bogged plus a tree was down blocking the route so on our return we took the road back . We left a day sooner and sorry to say we will not be booking again.

  • "This is an amazing place to stay, so quiet, peaceful and outstanding views."

The cottage has everything you need and could want, it’s spotless and very comfortable. Our hosts are really lovely but are not at all intrusive. This is the best place for so many reasons that we have ever stayed at in Cornwall and will be back as soon as possible.

  • "Mill Barn is uniquely situated a 10 minute (very muddy) walk from Port Isaac, the property is really well equipped, especially the kitchen."

We have stayed in some dog friendly places previously but they were not up to the high standard of cleanliness of Mill Barn. We were especially grateful for the concise directions provided, if we were following our sat-nav I don't think we would have believed it. If you love cows then Mill Barn is the place for you. Bring your wellies though.

  • "Wonderful quirky cottage in a beautiful setting."

So peaceful and quiet. Within easy walking distance to Port Isaac. Coastal walks from the doorstep. The cottage was well equipped and very clean. The only negative we found, was no space to dry towels and wet clothes, especially after a week of rain. There is a garage to hang them up but the air was damp. This is just a very minor issue. We did use the upstairs fire in the evening to take the chill off the place but we were never cold. Richard and Lenka the caretakers for the property are brilliant, not at all imposing. We would definitely return.

Very clean and comfortable. Would recommend. Port Isaac a short stroll for bars and food. It would be good if the property had a washing machine instead of a dishwasher though

  • "The drive through the farmers field to the property is a great experience but not for the faint hearted very tight corners but the views are spectacular so embrace it !"

Clean and tidy everything you need and Lenka and Richard next door are available for any problems you might encounter only downside is the main double mattress it was very uncomfortable for us so backaches in the morning but the walk of only10 minutes into port isaac every day was bliss and watching our dogs swim in the sea was great so we will probably return just for the accesss to the village and port Gaverne and peaceful setting .

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry that you found the mattress uncomfortable. It was bought in 2020 from John Lewis - I would have expected it to last longer than 3 years but we will look into replacing it. Kind regards, Loveday Property Owner

  • "Only down side to this property is the heating, it is inadequate for this type of building, also it needs a proper shower as a caravan shower is not suitable as the shower head is to low and cubic is small and can't bend down , in other words too small to swing a cat ."

..and sink is too small , but the property is in a great location and is the oldest property in port Isaac .

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed the Mill Barn's location but very sorry that you found it cold. Yours was the first let since Christmas. Throughout winter we keep one heater on to stop the property getting damp and switch them all on a couple of days before guests arrive but perhaps this wasn't long enough before your stay as the living room is lofty and it had been very cold. We will take this into account for future lets. The electricity bill for February was £322 even with just the one let! The shower is a standard size but as you noted it is small compared to the more luxurious ones many of us are used to. We shall be putting in a better bathroom as soon as we can afford to. Thank you to Loveday, Nick, Richard and Lenka for a really lovely stay - we hope to be back again soon :) P.S - where can we purchase a blind like the one in the shower room? We love it!!

  • "If you’re scrolling through the many holiday rentals in and around Port Isaac, then stop."

You really don’t need to look any further. Mill Barn is a cosy space, in a perfect location and is hosted by a couple who have gone above and beyond to ensure our experience was the absolute best - from the generous welcome pack, the kind loan of bodyboards for our children and the advice on the beaches and great walks in our local area. They’ve really facilitated us seeing the best North Cornwall has to offer. One of the most memorable things, and one our children will recount for many years to come I suspect, is the drive down an unmade track through the cow’s field to reach the property - what an adventure! The barn itself is small but perfectly formed (more than adequate for us as a family of four), clean, well equipped and, best of all, a short walk down into the port. We had all the advantages of being just a stone’s throw of the bustling harbour town with it’s quirky shops and range of eateries, but able to retreat to the peace and quiet the properly offered nestled in the hills behind. We loved walking down in the morning and evening for a paddle and an ice cream! Harbour Treats are the best! We would definitely recommend making the most of the local produce while you’re here - Trevathan Farm Shop is just at the top of the road which leads down to The Mill. It offers a huge range of local and seasonal produce. We considered shopping ahead but we were very glad we didn’t and stopped daily for the best Cornish offerings. Being minutes away allowed us to pop in daily - with the added bonus of a play park for the children to enjoy while we shopped - and offered another reason why this house was ideally located. As well as all the foodie delights, The Mill is perfectly positioned for exploring the many incredible beaches in the locality. Mabel, our four legged companion was with us, so our beach highlights are only of dog-friendly locations. We loved Port Gaverne for kayaking and paddle board adventures; Lundy Bay as a beautiful quiet cove for swimming and a few waves; Trebarth is a great surfing beach and, if you can, the walk down to Tregadock is so worth it! We had the whole beach to ourselves one morning - a tip from our wonderful host. The Mill offers a perfect position for accessing all these wonderful locations. It’s unusual we’d consider returning to the same place, never-mind the same property, but we will, without hesitation, be rebooking for 2022. We couldn’t recommended Mill Barn highly enough.

No problems with the track down to the barn (or the cows!) Slept soundly in the comfortable beds. Loved being able to leave the car and walk along the track into Port Isaac. It only took five minutes and there is a lovely little wild garden and stream on the way. Port Isaac is beautiful as always - the crab sandwiches at the harbour are amazing as are the pasties at Nicky’s. Had a really lovely and relaxing ho,I day, thank you.

  • "We enjoyed our stay so much at Mill Barn - comfortable, cosy and secluded - just what the Doctor ordered."

The shower unit was, however, a bit of a let down as it was impossible to control the water temperature, it would go from almost scalding to cold in a matter of seconds without touching anything on the unit.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Mill Barn and you had a nice holiday. The Caretaker has checked the shower and it appears that the issue was with the hot water heater which had been adjusted so the temperature was set to the maximum. The hot water heater has been reset to a comfortable temperature and the shower is working perfectly. We hope you will visit Mill Barn again in the future for more lovely holidays. Property Owner

One problem which we didn’t overcome until third day - the bedrooms are situated against the hill wall. This presented the problem with cold making the clothing and bedding feel damp. Port Issac was only a 10 minute walk however it was through a field of overgrown grasses and a wood which was boggy. So not a pleasant walk

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We do make every effort to ensure that properties are accurately described on the website. In this case it is noted on the listing for Mill Barn that: 'This property is accessed via an unmade road which passes through a field and may not be suitable for low slung vehicles.' Most guests really enjoy the scenic approach to the property. The footpath to Port Isaac is a rural walkway which can be narrow in places and of course is affected by the weather at times! At certain times of the year it may be advisable to wear wellies or walking boots to improve your enjoyment of this handy footpath! Property Owner
