  • "Lovely property."

Plenty of room inside and outside. Five minutes walk to the beach.

  • "First impressions are so very important."

So I was not impressed to walk into the property to find the last weeks dirty linen and towels strewn over the landing. I had to tidy them away and they were collected in the week. Also the handle to the cutlery draw was broken and the dishwasher had clearly been interrupted mid cycle and its contents put away less than clean. This does colour your experience which is a shame as it’s a comfortable property which is very well situated. It just needs to be allowed to shine

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Your comments have been passed on to the team here at John Bray Cornish Holidays. We hope you still managed to enjoy your visit despite these issues and would love to welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. • "This was a lovely location with sea views from the bedrooms upstairs and from the front of the house."

The walk down to the beach from the house is lovely and the sea can be seen from the start of the walk down. There are the inevitable potholes in the road of the property so walking up and down in sliders is not ideal as my son tripped and stubbed his toe and we dealt with a first aid incident enroute. Most of the local villagers are welcoming to tourists, and the area is very picturesque with stunning views. The walk from the beach up to house can be a bit of a killer if you struggle with mobility and fitness but as the week went by it become easier. There is the option to drive down to the beach car park. The village farm shop is great and is well stocked. The beach store is great with everything you need and the staff are very helpful. We enjoyed the live music from the beach bar some evenings. The house is very spacious and the garden is lovely. Lovely pictures on the wall with photos of the owners children to make it have a homely feel. The garden furniture is rickety and could do with updating or refurbishing. Lots of apples to pick at the back end of the season if you wanted to bake with or just eat. We liked the idea of the separate lounge to chill in and play games during the evenings. The utility is great and spacious with a shower to throw the kids in before sand got to the rest of the house. There is a hose by the utility door to hose down with. We used the washing machine and tumble dryer. The heating and hot water system is great. We were never cold and always had plenty of hot water. There were plenty of bathrooms and as a family of six we didn’t have anyone knocking impatiently on the bathrooms doors to hurry up. There were lots of crockery to choose from. Only thing was there weren’t enough little pans and it was excessive to use a huge pan for a tin of beans. Lots of things left for us to use on the beach should we wish to, for example, a couple of body boards, camping chairs, buckets and spades. We left a couple of things for others too. I would agree with some of the points raised in the previous reviews - I had no idea about the bin collections (when it was etc) and recycling systems so ended up just putting almost everything in the black bin. The doors to the patio door have been fixed and now there is a small cleaning starter pack left with a bin bag, one wash cloth and one dishwasher tablet. There was no toilet roll, hand wash left but we had a shopping delivery almost as soon as we arrived. There were two tea towels left but a good idea to take more. I feel the maintenance team have let the owners down to do the basics, for example; -Twin bedroom - top right window stiff and could barely open and shut - handle nearly coming off. - Right hand door on master bedroom doesn’t lock - Dining room left window won’t open (the one near the table) - Master bedroom en-suite door handle loose and needs repair - Twin bedroom wardrobe left handle door loose and come off. - Master bedroom left hand side bedside table middle drawer handle come off. - Handle on a drawer in kitchen is off and has been replaced with string to pull when you want to open the drawer. - Hole in fence down left hand side of house opposite kitchen window where a small dog could get out - Blind in the master bedroom broken (the one on the right of the two windows) - The bed slats on the master bed kept coming out easily and needed fixing in most days - A couple of the glass panels on the master bedroom balcony had slipped down. The decking on the balcony was a bit slippy. We couldn’t sit on the balcony as no furniture / seat to sit down on but lovely views to stand and see. Aside from the basic repairs, this was a lovely house that suited our family lifestyle and we would consider this house again if there was availability and the price was right.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and would love to welcome you back anytime in the future. All suggestions/comments can be viewed by the property owner so these are appreciated. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place and ideal for our family."

Location was perfect and plenty of space for us all. Loved the games and dvds available to use but no connection from dvd to tv? A few things to consider: 1. The under counter freezer needs defrosting and doesn’t shut properly (we didn’t need to use it but others might). 2. There is a gap in the fence (as you look at the fence from the kitchen sink) which meant our dog got out. 3. We didn’t find the information booklet until our last night as this was tucked under the TV. More information was needed regarding the bins, recycling and rubbish as well as what to do at check out (I stripped the beds we used but weren’t sure if we needed to). 4. Some of the slabs/stones at the edge of the driveway as loose. None of the above affected our stay but may affect others hence the feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed all that Dolphin's Barn has to offer, and its surroundings. However, we are sorry that you encountered the above issues with maintenance and the information booklet during your stay. All feedback is shared with the owner and your comments have been raised to our maintenance team. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back again in the future - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Dolphins Barn."

The house is spacious with plenty of room for all the family. Plenty of hot water and brilliant heating system. The house was well equipped, however I agree with the previous reviews; would have been nice to have a bin bag in the bin. We forgot to bring our own and arrived late so we didn’t have chance to get one for the first night. I would expect to provide my own however the first liner in the bin should come with the property. This however did not hinder our stay. We had a fantastic time and would return. Thank you for the fresh flowers and welcome on the chalk board! I would recommend this property.

Thank you for your kind word, we look forward to welcoming you back soon. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner Property Owner

  • "1. The cost of the rental should definitely warrant the provision of a welcome pack 2."

Grass not cut until the stay was over. Would expect weekly during growing season. 3. The garden chairs dirty 4. The chairs on the balcony very dirty and unusable. 5. Balcony requires a good clean- spiders webs indicate a lack of attention 6. Spiders webs around downstairs french windows show no outside cleaning carried out 7. The arm chairs in the family area (next to kitchen) collapsed providing no comfort whatsoever 8. Little or no shelf space in shower room adjacent to main bedroom

  • "Although the house its self was a little treasure, but saddly to say it lacked a couple of details which as seasoned Sykes Cottages and other Company renters over the years we feel would have made the difference and we have come to expect from any of the other rental Cottages we have visited."

My wife called to speak to someone about the lack of a number of basic requirements and was told because it was a self-catering property, we should not expect any of those things. Such as dustbin bags, a welcome pack, basic tea and coffee or milk and toilet paper, instructions for leaving on moving day, no cleaning cloths, dishwasher tablets, and a couple of basic hygiene issues one of the beds had no mattress protector and the large A frame room two of the pillows had no protectors and there was some brown staining from human spit/liquids. The double bedroom with bathroom is in need of a new toilet brush and door hooks, the sink takes an age to empty. Possibly clogged up with hair or other debris, with few other very minor issues to mention which shouldn’t really need to be addressed but should not be ignored if the owner wants to receive 5-star rating with each and every rental stay. I took a dog and he almost escaped because the gates blew open in high wind granted, but this was because the gates did not close and secure properly, on one side the actual bolt came out in my hand! A little basic D.I.Y. might be required. Surly all Cottage Rentals are in essence self-catering, it is the extra comforts, amenities and effort that makes the difference, and renters remember that. Yes, this property may get rented frequently but I wonder how many people come back again and put up with the same shortcomings of an otherwise ok property which could be a so much better 5-star rental. Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed the house so much but disappointed that some of the extras have fallen short. We have raised the lack of protectors with the housekeeping team and will also seek to address the maintenance issues raised. We do hope that we get the opportunity to welcome you back to Cornwall in the future. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Thus property did not disappoint."

AMAZING garden, great downstairs living spaces, spectacular master bedroom, super location. The right mix of clean and tidy, but not so much so you felt you could not relax, perfect for us as a family and I would book again in a flash. MINOR points for improvement would be 1) clean and maintain the balcony and furniture, i did not use it due to this. 2) supply a big, non stick frying pan (or 2) , doing breakfast was a battle for 3 hungry teens!

Thank you for your kind comments we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. The points raised will be addressed by our maintenance department. We very much look forward to welcoming you back in the very near future. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Last came here 12 years ago."

Continues to be home from home in many ways. Well equipped kitchen and great utility area and lovely location. From a comfort point of view the settees weren’t great as the cushions always slide away and the master bedroom mattress was terrible- sleeping in dips. Also couldn’t run more than 1 shower at the same time as there wasn’t enough water pressure. Not great for a house of that size. We contacted the company at the start of the week about the fact that the doors into the garden were difficult to open as 1 has dropped. The key in the master bedroom doors was already broken in the lock when we got there so couldn’t open that either. The balcony and chairs were also very dirty. The master bedroom toilet kept running all night. We were told someone would come out but don’t believe anyone did so nothing got repaired. Also disappointed that there wasn’t a basic welcome package with dischcloth, washing up liquid etc. expect this when paying such a high price for a property. We’ve noticed on a previous review that the doors were mentioned as a problem so very disappointing that this hasn’t been sorted.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. All of your comments have been passed on to the team here at John Bray Cornish Holidays to try and rectify, our apologies for not being able to get the issue with the doors sorted in time for or during your stay. • "This was a lovely spacious property with a quiet garden."

The property was a short walk from Trevone Beach and lots of other beaches were nearby. The main bedroom was beautiful with a very comfortable bed. The shower in the en-suite was very efficient. The double room had an extremely soft bed that was very uncomfortable so our son and daughter in law used one of the twin bedded rooms. With two en-suites, a bathroom and separate shower downstairs there were lots of facilities for eight adults. The kitchen was very well equipped with instructions for the cooker and appliances. The negatives were the boxes of empty bottles and plastic wrapping left by earlier occupants on the bench by the front door that gave an unattractive first impression. Perhaps some instructions about recycling and bin collections might be useful. The doors from the kitchen to the garden need realigning as they are difficult to open and the doors from the upstairs bedroom to the balcony had a broken key in the lock so would not open. As there were velux windows that opened wide and we had a lot of rain this was not a problem for us. The toilet brushes need replacing and the towels shed so much navy fluff we had to wash them and the bathroom floors. The bedding was spotless and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay in this property and would stay here again if the price stays reasonable.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's great to hear that you had such a fabulous stay and had the perfect base to explore the local area from.
