  • "Really cosy little cottage, just perfect size for two, ideal for exploring Rutland Water and surrounding area."

Parking is on the nearby public car park behind the library and costs about £18 for the week (you can use the RingGo App). Nice welcoming gift as well which was lovely touch. Very quiet surroundings made for a relaced few days.

About the location

UPPINGHAM

Oakham 6.1 miles; Rutland Water 5.6 miles; Stamford 12.5 miles; Melton Mowbray 17 miles; Leicester 20 miles.

Uppingham is a picturesque traditional Rutland market town with honey-coloured stone buildings offering a range of speciality shops, traditional family retailers, antique galleries, art galleries and tea rooms as well as country pubs, a weekly Friday market and an award-winning Heritage Trail which highlights the many historic features of the town. In the centre is the Market Square with the original fountain, where a temporary livestock market has been held every year since 1889. Uppingham and the surrounding area are steeped in history and offer something to suit all tastes and interests. Many sporting events are available at Rutland Water including walking, fly fishing, birdwatching, cycling and horse riding as well as golf, rock climbing, a high rope course and numerous watersports. Just a short drive takes you to Burghley House, one of the grandest houses of the Elizabethan Age, home to Burghley Horse Trails and offering Capability Brown-designed gardens. This stunning house was used in the filming of Pride and Prejudice and The Da Vinci Code. Rockingham Castle, built on behalf of William the Conqueror, is open to the public throughout the summer, and plays host to events throughout the year including International Horse Trials, music festivals and family events. The town of Stamford, known as the finest stone town in England, and Oakham with its castle with horseshoes, heritage trail, and bi-weekly markets and monthly farmers’ market, are both worth a visit. Rockingham Speedway offers numerous track events throughout the year, or why not try out one of their many track days? The area boasts many award-winning pubs and restaurants with local produce such as cheese, bread, meats and fish, all of which can be bought at one of the many markets in the Rutland area. Visit the city of Leicester, nestling on the River Soar on the edge of the National Forest and the burial place of King Richard III, or the 'Rural Capital of Food' Melton Mowbray, home to the famous Pork Pie and Stilton cheese. Uppingham was voted best place to live in the Midlands by The Sunday Times in 2020 due to the traditional high street with specialist shops and overwhelmingly friendly locals.
