  • "We very much enjoyed our stay in this well appointed and tastefully decorated cottage with all the comforts of home and a very well equipped kitchen."

It is very well located for easy access to all the attractions in Bourton on the Water and the surrounding Costswolds. There are, however, a couple of things we would like to point out which were not as described in the welcome pack. 1. There was no dustpan and brush or broom. 2. The wi fi code on the laminated signs is incorrect. The correct code can only be found on a small sticker in the front of the welcome pack. 3. Lastly and probably the most irritating and worrying thing we would like to draw attention to is the dog faeces found on the garden path, which we felt obliged to remove (photographic evidence of which can be provided). Whilst there is a reminder in the cottage for dog owners to be vigilant, we feel a thorough check of the garden should be made by cleaning staff after each let.

Many thanks for your feedback and your great scores, it is very much appreciated. We are so pleased that you found the house so comfortable, well equipped and that you found the location so easy. Its great to hear of people enjoying the cottage so much and enjoying their holidays. Thanks for the feedback points. The points have been discussed with Manor cottages who fully manage the property and whole process. On the inventory there was previously a dustpan and brush and a broom so maybe they have been stored incorrectly on change over with other cleaning products or have been removed, its being checked and new ones will be on the way as needed. The wifi codes will be sorted, it has high speed internet and we think the code was changed but not updated everywhere. The garden has been discussed with the housekeepers from manor cottages and they offer their apologies, the garden is checked but obviously this was missed. They confirmed they have updated processes accordingly. Thanks again and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and the Cotswolds. Property Owner

  • "The house was fabulous!"

It looks just like the photos. The beds were comfy with plenty of pillows, white cotton sheets and duvet. The fans in the bedrooms were much appreciated as it was quite warm a couple of days during our visit. There was plenty of space and a nicely equipped kitchen. It was wonderful to be only a five minute walk to the center of Bourton-on-the-Water but not have to fight through the congestion of the town and being able to park in our own driveway. Having a Co-op around the corner was an added bonus. We cannot wait to go back!

We so appreciate you taking the time to provide such great feedback and the 100/100 score, it means a lot. We wanted the photos to be really representative rather than a marketing ploy. We are so pleased you had a comfortable sleep, it means a lot on holiday to get some good rest as well as enjoying yourself. The gentle stroll to the center is great and down to the River Windrush. It’s nice to be able to park the car and leave it behind if you wish. You will be very welcome back and we hope you and your family have many more happy holidays. Thanks again for taking the time to provide the scores and feedback. Property Owner

We are so pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and the beautiful Bourton on the Water and the wider location. • "We couldn’t have asked for more on our recent stay at Well Cottage."

On arrival we were impressed with the cleanliness, beautiful garden and comfort. The little welcome bits were a lovely surprise. We found the beds really comfortable, all rooms spacious and had everything we needed for 3 generations and a dog. The large co-op is so close which came in handy for last minute meal plans. The road was quiet and a nice stroll into the high street where we made the most of the ducks on the river, tea shops, motor museum, bird land and dragonfly maze. My children didn’t want to come home, we plan to visit Well cottage again in the near future.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a wonderful review and for the 100/100 score, it really is appreciated. We are so pleased that you and your family had such a nice time, its great to hear of 3 generations sharing the house and of course the dog. Great that you found the beds really comfortable and enjoyed the house so much. We hope ‘Brum’ at the motoring museum brought back memories for yourself as well for the kids. The dragonfly maze is certainly not as easy as you may think! Paddling in the river with the ducks around certainly is fun. The children not wanting to come home is a testament to the area and the fun that can be had, we are so pleased that they enjoyed themselves. We hope you return and that you get to enjoy the house and area again. Thanks again for the review. Property Owner

The cottage has recently been completely upgraded, decorated and refurbished with everything you could possibly require, from a well equipped kitchen to the lovely spacious en-suite bathrooms and a family bathroom, all with luxurious fittings and underfloor heating. Well cottage is a lovely property with a supermarket a short walk away and the picturesque village of Bourton on the Water a five minute stroll down the gentle hill of Moore Road.

Thank you for providing us with such lovely feedback, it’s really appreciated that you took the time to complete a review. The 100% score is great to see and means so much. Being ‘Welcoming’ was a major aim so that people really felt that they were submerged in the Cotswolds but within a luxury setting. Everything else was wonderful, very comfortable and the furnishings were excellent. The help and service from Manor Cottages when we had a problem with the boiler was quick and efficient. Many a happy evening spent playing board games and cards around the large dining room table. We are aiming to return.

Thank you so much for your feedback, scores and comments, it is so appreciated and means a lot. There is nothing better than hearing you really enjoyed your stay and intend to return, you would be very welcome. We are glad you liked the furnishings, the aim was to have two separate living areas with the dinning room connecting them for those great home cooked meals or take aways. Or like yourselves enjoying board games and cards. Thank you for your suggestions, appreciated. Also its good that Manor cottages responded so well on the boiler issue, as always with a house things will occasionally happen but we understand it was quickly resolved. Thank you very much for a wonderful and much needed break.

Thanks for the ‘Wow’ and ‘Wonderful’ feedback and the great scores, it really does mean a lot and is appreciated. The beds were sourced from a company that supply high end Hotels and great to hear they are so comfy. Yes great on the location and being able to walk so easily around the village. Having such a large garden so close to the centre is pretty rare and seems to be enjoyed by children, dogs and also the patio and barbecue for drinks and dinner. The summer house also has some loungers for the occasional sun bathing day! We are very pleased that your dog also enjoyed the holiday and the garden! • "The cottage is beautiful and so well located."

We had a great stay and enjoyed trying the local restaurants, which were all great. We loved wandering around Bourton and spending time in the cottage as a family. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the cottage was disappointing when we arrived. Rubbish left by previous occupants was still visible on floors and under sofas (easily seen when walking into the room - we didn’t go looking for it!) The clean bedding was badly marked on one of the pillowcases and earphones were left by previous occupants by the bedside cabinet in one of the bedrooms - all of which should have been spotted when cleaning. We felt that the 6.00pm check in was very late, so would have expected that in the current climate a deep clean would have taken place, but this clearly wasn’t the case. Only two dishwasher tablets were left for a family of four on a five night stay! Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed our time at the cottage, which was very comfortable and plenty big enough for our family. However for the money we spent we would have expected a higher level of cleanliness.

Many thanks for your great comments in relation to the cottage and its location, thanks for saying it is beautiful, it is so appreciated. It’s great to have everything so near and handy and being able to so easily walk rather than driving. Yes the local restaurant standard is really good with a mix of quality restaurants for a special meal, good family locations and even a pub and curry house combined! We are so pleased you enjoyed spending time in the cottage as a family. In terms of your issues we can only apologise. The house is fully managed by Manor cottages including the reservation and housekeeping process. That is to try and maintain really high standards and they have been good. However they have accepted that at Christmas they had some staffing and process issues but Covid and the impact on staffing does not excuse the issues when you are trying to fully enjoy your holiday. They have instigated a complete deep clean of the property and are adding additional checks. We pass on their apologies as well as ours. We wish you many more happy holidays and we hope you one day return to the cottage with your family again. Property Owner

Very convenient to walk around in Bourton-on-the-water, and just a few steps away from the coop. Really enjoyed sitting next to the wood burning stove with a glass of mulled wine after a days walk, felt so cosy and relaxing. Very comfy beds with down duvets, liked the heated bathroom floor, but do bring your own shampoo and shower gel as it’s not provided.

Many thanks for the great review and scores, much appreciated and it really means a lot when people feedback so well. So pleased that you had such a nice break and that the wood burner was used to warm up post a day’s walking. The beds were purchased from a company that provides quality hotels and having a good nights sleep seems key to a relaxing break. Yes the coop is a destination in itself with its meat, cheese and cake counters and of course the prepared meal section cooked in house. Many thanks for the great feedback on the location and also the overall presentation of the cottage. Many apologies on the noise, we understand it was the fit out of a previously built small extension. • "The property was big enough for our party of six."

Unfortunately there was not enough cutlery, and no teapot. The fridge was a nightmare as things kept dropping out when the door was open. This was the items put into the actual door compartment i.e. the milk cartons and juice cartons. Necessitating two massive clean ups plus having to pull out the fridge to mop up the spilt milk. The children’s rooms had cobwebs in the window. This all sound negative, but the property was in an ideal location the garden was fab and the barbecue was used by us even in the dark. The off road parking was also great.

Firstly thanks for the comments in relation to the location, its always nice to be able to walk to a range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The image of barbecuing in the dark is a great one and the brick built barbecue on the patio seems to be working well. The garden being the size it is seems to keep children entertained. Parking is pretty hard to come by so its nice to be able to park several cars and ideally leave them alone for a lot of the holiday and enjoy the walks. More cutlery is on the way as well as a teapot. The cobwebs have been flagged to housekeeping and the fridge will be looked at to see what can be done, apologies you had to clean up. It sounds like you had a good holiday and we wish you and your family many more enjoyable holidays in the future. Property Owner

  • "House itself was lovely, as was location."

Couldn’t fault in most respects. However, despite requesting the third bedroom to be made up as super king instead of twin, as the listing advised that you could, and confirming again that this was what we wanted, we arrived to find twin beds. I’m not sure if this was a lack of communication from Sykes to the housekeeper, or the housekeeper ignoring it or being unable to do it for some reason, but either way, it spoilt the start of our holiday. I was a little disappointed by this, having paid £1700 for an out of school holiday break, and not getting what you asked for.

Many thanks for updating us on your stay. We really appreciate the positive comments on the house and location. Bringing the house and the garden to such a high standard was a labour of love for the owners so they will appreciate it. Yes the location is great with so many pubs, restaurants and shops being walkable. We can only apologise for the issue of one of the beds not being at your requested configuration, this was simply an error that should not have happened. We are adding in additional checks to the process to avoid such an issue and apologies again. We wish you many happy holidays for the future. Property Owner

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
