  • "A real gem!"

Fabulous cottage for two, spacious and well equipped/furnished. Perfectly located for exploring all the main sites in the area. The terrace at the back of the cottage looks out over the paddocks, is very private and perfect for relaxing. This is one of the best 2 person cottages I have ever stayed at.

It was lovely having you both as guests here at Flagstone. You sapped up much of what the Cotswolds has to offer and enjoyed that to the full. Thank you for your very generous comments and I truly appreciate that. Perfect guests. Property Owner

  • "Charming cottage for 2 in beautiful countryside a couple of miles outside of Stow."

Host Charles greeted us upon arrival, very nice gentleman, & Saphie, who is lovely & helpful, put up with my silly questions & looked after us during our stay. Cottage is set out very well, is properly equipped & looks out over sheep & horse paddocks. Only thing we would add would be a full length mirror maybe inside the wardrobe door. We enjoyed going to see Nina, the horse currently in the paddock outside, she was very friendly, especially when you took her an apple or 2. It is nice just wandering around the fields outside the cottage or there are plenty of walks in the area, my favourite being to Donnington Brewery about 2 miles away

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and so pleased that you enjoyed yourselves. Point taken about a full length mirror. Good suggestion. Property Owner

Every thing about it was perfect, good central location for all Cotswold attractions. Nicely presented and spotlessly clean. Charles was the perfect host. We will return again. John & Marion Elwood

  • "Extremely comfortable, well appointed property and ideally located."

The host Charles was very accommodating and very personable. To enhance the property to excellent status I would like to recommend the following; 1. The purchase of a washing up bowl as this would save a lot of water. 2. The purchase of a pair of tongs, especially when grilling bacon! 3. The purchase of a pastry brush! The only concern I had was the booking in time at 1800hrs which is far from ideal especially when travelling a long distance and requiring time to prepare dinner. All the properties my wife and I have booked over many years previously have had a booking in time of 1600hrs.

It was our pleasure in having you come to Flagstone House and so delighted that enjoyed a nice break. Thank you for the kitchen paraphernalia tips which will be provided henceforth. The 1800hrs changeover is only due to staffing availabity Property Owner

The cottage is in a quiet location and it's well-equipped, clean and fresh. It was lovely to sit outside on a sunny day and take in the beautiful scenery. It's within half an hour of everywhere you might want to go - Bourton-on-the-Water is only 10 minutes away and even Blenheim Palace is only a half an hour journey. If you want a relaxing week away in peaceful tranquillity with all the facilities you might need, you have to visit!

It was a great pleasure to have you both here. Your enthusiasm to enjoy your break here was self-evident and thank for coming to Flagstone Cottage. Property Owner

Everything was provided for a comfortable stay & Charles the owner even provided us with an extension lead to enable me to dry my hair in the bathroom mirror. Maybe a mirror in the bedroom would be a good idea for the future, we really enjoyed our stay.

Stow-on-the-Wold 2.4 miles.

Flagstone Cottage is a superbly presented cottage resting in the grounds of the owner's home in the rural village of Upper Swell, just a few miles from the amenities of Stow-on-the-Wold.

Enjoying a peaceful location surrounded by fields, Flagstone Cottage is a romantic bolthole for two, providing easy access to the delights of the Cotswolds.

The open-plan living space boasts a light and airy feel, comprised of a sofa and armchair positioned in front of the woodburning stove and TV, so you can catch up on your favourite TV shows after a long day.

Dust off those cooking books and rustle up a home-cooked meal in the kitchen, utilising the electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even the dishwasher, so you won’t have to lift a finger when washing up!

When the sun is shining, take a seat at the patio furniture and relish your peaceful surroundings, contemplating which Cotswold attraction you’ll discover next.

As the night rolls in, venture to the bedroom to catch some shut eye, offering a sumptuous king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with choice of bath and shower over.

Awaken with a cup of tea and breakfast and then later take a short drive to the Golden Ball pub for a refreshing pint and meal.

The surrounding area is a real paradise, offering miles of beautiful walking and cycling routes, along with scenic estates and gardens including the 1700, award-winning Bourton House Garden.

Stow-on-the-Wold is ideally positioned for those keen to learn about the history of the Cotswolds; visit the Neolithic burial remains of Belas Knap Long Barrow, the 13th-century Hailes Abbey, or Chastleton House, which has lovely grounds.

Alternatively, head to the town of Stratford-upon-Avon and discover the home of Shakespeare, as well as a wealth of independent shops and eateries.

If exploration takes you further afield then the bustling city of Gloucester is worth visiting, while the spa town of Cheltenham promises to be adventure if you visit in race week!

Flagstone Cottage is a splendid escape to Gloucestershire, whatever time of year.

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
