  • "Mill Stream Cottage is simply stunning."

There were six of us spending the Christmas holiday and we couldn't have been happier or more comfortable. Decorating within is beautiful and beds were made with lovely duvets and coverlets. And each bedroom is ensuite. More than ample cookware and tableware is provided. We had a small issue with the toaster and a new one was delivered within an hour or two, proving that response to any problem will be handled swiftly. The surrounding village is magical and the cottage is well positioned for further exploration of the Cotswold area. This property is truly extraordinary. We have been to many holiday rentals in the Cotswolds over the years and this one surpasses all of them. Definitely an amazing holiday!

  • "We loved Mill Stream Cottage."

Although we live in the area I booked it so that we could spend a few days with friends visiting for my Mother's funeral. It was the perfect retreat. Set in a chocolate box village it's in a really pretty setting. Parking is fine in the driveway for two small to medium sized cars and our additional car was parked in another road as no parking is permitted in the road near the cottage. Everything is of a really high standard and the cottage is fully equipped. There is even a snackwich maker! The beds are sumptuous and of a top quality hotel standard. The only slight niggle was there was only luke warm water coming out of the shower above the bath whenever I tried but the hand held shower on the bath was hot. It wasn't a problem as there were two other showers in the cottage and we like to bath anyway. We loved the woodburner and as it was chilly we enjoyed our meals on our laps in the living room. We loved our stay and it was the perfect retreat given the sad circumstances, we would definitely return if circumstances permitted.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, despite the circumstances. It would be lovely to welcome you again one day in the future and we thank you once again for providing us with such lovely feedback. Best wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner

apart from that, it was a perfect stay :)

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Mill Stream Cottage. We appreciate the comments with regards to the shower head and i will pass on this to the Property Manager. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards Character Cottages Property Owner

Thank you for providing this feedback and we're sorry to hear that you were unable to use the open fire. A new fire was installed at the end of August. It’s always a bonus to have comfortable beds! Although dry it was extremely cold for the time of year so the open fire was a bonus, for extra logs and a really good food shop the coop in Bourton on the Water is ideal. Our only problem was that the central heating broke down on our last day but the situation was swiftly handled by the housekeeper Joanne. For visiting the lovely Cotswold villages Mill Stream Cottage is in an ideal situation and we would highly recommend it

It's location was perfect in one of the most quintessential English villages. We began and ended each day with a walk along the river which was in itself a highlight of our time in the Cotswolds. It was very central to the Northern Cotswold with major attractions less than half an hour away. We especially enjoyed the Longborough Opera - less than 15 minutes from the cottage. The cottage itself was beautifully furnished with every possible item necessary for the enjoyment of our stay. We played chess every evening on the patio and enjoyed our breakfasts there listening to birdsong and the bleating of nearby sheep. We can't recommend this cottage highly enough. Lower Slaughter is one of the loveliest villages in the Cotswolds, and an ideal base from which to visit the many other attractions, towns and villages in this most beautiful part of England. Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway deserve particular mention. We also visited Adlestrop, made famous by the poet Edward Thomas, and the blackbirds still sing there. We love the Cotswold,we love the Slaughters, we love Mill Stream Cottage. All the necessary accoutrements to make escape time a delight. I marvelled at the kitchen equipment(Oka! Jamie! In a holiday cottage?) and wept (nearly) at the nestling of the cottage, close to the (eponymous-so of course!) stream and dense with deliciousness. Roomy, but comfy, packed to the rafters with fun things to look at, quirky objects to discuss and a feel of family always close. On the bright days and the murky ones, we laughed, sang, chatted, played music and planned....... We’ll be back!

The cottage easily sleeps 6...don't be put off by the room off the kitchen, its actually the best bedroom in the house. I can honestly say it’s the most well equipped AirBnB we have ever had, whatever you can think of is in that house including bikes. The location is also amazing and you can walk to the level village Inn within 5 mins down the river path.

The bedrooms are very private and each has its own full bathroom. We were extremely comfortable in this charming house. • "What a stunning property!"

We were 3 adults and one 3yr old, and we had so much space. The cottage is decorated beautifully, tastefully and with high quality brands. Either the host has some interior design background or they hired a designer. It feels like it was furnished for the hosts to live in originally, with all the amenities you could imagine plus extra. The kitchen is particularly well stocked with utensils, crockery, food mixer, toaster and more. The little courtyard outside is gorgeous, with its own little water feature. We had homemade afternoon tea here and it's a perfect little sun trap. There's a Tesco 10 mins away in Stow-on-the-wold which is really handy. Lower Slaughter is nothing short of picture perfect. It's incredible - like something from a movie. And the cottage's location is perfect, central enough to walk everywhere in the Slaughters and right beside a craft shop selling ice creams. The property is also really well located for driving to a lot of other really beautiful villages. We would DEFINITELY stay here again if we were to visit the area again. It's a winner!

  • "We had a wonderful stay here with the whole family (3 couples)."

It was really great that there's a bathroom for each bedroom and we all fit comfortably into the kitchen for meals. We even managed to have one meal outside on the little round table in the sunshine. The location is outstanding, we walked everywhere we needed to, especially in the mornings and evenings when there weren't any tourists around. There were plenty of pots and pans for us to cook with and having a big fridge was very helpful. We recommend the walk to Upper Slaughter along the public footpath right by the house through the fields. Thanks for a great stay!

About the location

Lower Slaughter

Lower Slaughter is a village in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England, 4 miles south west of Stow-on-the-Wold.The village is built on both banks of the River Eye, a slow-moving stream crossed by two footbridges, which also flows through Upper Slaughter. At the west end of the village there is a 19th-century water mill with an undershot waterwheel and a chimney for additional steam power. There is a ford where the river widens in the village and several small stone footbridges join the two sides of the community. A mill is recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086 on the site of The Old Mill. In the 14th Century it had begun to be known as Slaughter Mill and is open to the public to view today. Lower Slaughter is home to the pretty church of St Mary. The church and its impressive spire were re-built in 1867 but some arches between the nave and the south aisle date back to the thirteenth century while the church of St Peter's, in Upper Slaughter, is a historic Norman church with parts dating from the 12th century .

Note: There is a second single bed in bedroom 3 available on request, which, when erected, there is not much floor space.
