  • "Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage in this gorgeous location in the English countryside."

The house was well equipped and there was ample space for our group of 5 adults. It's a lovely historic building, typical to the area and we particularly enjoyed the local pub.

  • "We had a great time in the cottage."

We booked very last minute and despite that the house a ready and clean when we arrived. The kids adored the built in bunk bed and the kitchen was lovely and welcoming. We had nice long walk in the fields around and even bumped into some Lamas!!! We’ll go again

  • "A beautiful cottage, very luxurious and well-maintained, which was easy to reach for all our family who gathered for a 65th birthday party reunion."

Space, warming AGA, time to relax and chat and let the little ones meet each other. Rain didn't totally spoil our trip as we had a lovely afternoon in nearby Burford. Delicious Sunday lunch at the Rose & Crown, local pub/restaurant in Shilton. Thank you.

  • "We had perfect weekend with both of our parents and children."

The house was amazing and the garden setting was beautiful. It was lovely to spend the afternoon in the garden and use the barbecue as we had fantastic weather. We had a meal out at the local pub on Friday evening as we had reserved a table. It was very warm and welcoming pub and food was excellent. We really enjoyed relaxing in the kitchen diner area for breakfast and then we also used the living room after dinner to relax and play some of the many board games within the house.

  • "A beautiful cottage in a pretty village - quintessential Cotswolds!"

The property has everything you could wish for: well equipped, comfortable, stylish, impeccably clean with plenty of space to spread out. The walk to Burford and back was just the right length to justify lunch at the Rose & Crown. We have already recommended Friesland Cottage to a number of friends!

  • "A beautiful and large cottage with a lovely mix of old features and new conveniences."

The owners have good taste and left everything you could possibly want to have a home from home stay. It's the perfect distance from the road, the village and the pub. We look forward to trying to stay there again in the summer. We would recommend it to anyone. Thanks so much for a lovely stay! Also well managed by this company. Tom Easton

About the location

BURFORD

Swinbrook 3.3 miles; Little Barrington 3.4 miles; Minster Lovell 6.1 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.
