Well decorated and clean with every facility you will need, especially in the kitchen. Great position in Stow and all eateries within 5 minutes walk. Throughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage and were sad to leave.

  • "What a lovely little cottage set right in the beautiful town of Stow on the Wold with private parking."

Would highly recommend as an excellent bolt hole to stay while visiting the Cotswolds and so near all of the wonderful picturesque villages. Shops, pubs and restaurants just a short stroll away. Fantastic stay.

Many thanks for your lovely comments and glad you had a fantastic time at Evenlode. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back sometime in the future. Property Owner

  • "Ideally located cottage for Stow, very clean, compact & comfortable."

Milk, butter, cheese, cake etc provided on arrival which is a really nice touch. We didn’t realise there was no shower gel provided which for the price I would expect. For a small cottage we did find it rather chilly, though additional heaters were provided.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Evenlode Cottage, though we are sorry to hear you still felt the cottage could have been warmer. We hope this will not be a problem in the future. Property Owner

  • "Cottage was quite cold, heating not very effective."

Kitchen smoke alarm a total nightmare you cannot even make a piece of toast without it going off, even if you run the extractor at full pelt. Parking very tight when all spaces taken. We recycled all week only to find no information about where to put it other than with all the other rubbish. Fabulous shower and comfortable bed although to to read as no headboard for one person! Good central location.

Thank you for taking time to leave your feedback on Evenlode Cottage. We are sorry to hear you found the cottage cold, the heating is on a thermostat and can be increased at any time. If you have any issues please do not hesitate to contact the owner and they will attend the property. The owners are investigating the smoke alarm. In regards to the recycling this is being looked into and will be available in the future, due to the shared bin area. Manor Cottages Property Owner

Easy to walk out and straight into the high street with plenty of shops, cafes, and pubs. The snug was very cosy and perfect to spend evenings in. We visited during a heatwave and therefore the bedroom was extremely hot but otherwise a lovely place to stay.

  • "Lovely quirky 3 storey accommodation, ideally located in the centre of Stow."

Quality fittings, comfy bed and duvet. Good shower room and towels. Well equipped kitchen for all our needs. Clean and tidy throughout. Car parking was tight for our large vehicle behind secure gates, just a little hard to unpack and repack the car, but not a problem at all. Neighbours were polite and helpful. Only small gripe was the departure time of 9 am which I thought was very early when you are asked to strip and bag up the bedding and the towels and take all rubbish to the bins etc and ensure all utensils and pots are in the dishwasher and windows left opened, I understand Covid precautions, but 9 am departure and 4 pm arrival I think were quite extreme at either side compared to other accommodations. (it’s a 7 hour cleaning turnaround ! ). Having said that the cottage was lovely and very well kept and obviously well cared for.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Evenlode Cottage. Its always lovely to get feedback from our guests and i will forward your comments onto the owner to review the arrival/departure times. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

The property

Located in the centre of the ancient market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, Evenlode Cottage is the perfect location for a break from everyday life with your loved one.

Arranged over three floors, the cottage has undergone a complete transformation to cater for the requirements of the ever more discerning visitor, to bring you a wonderful retreat from which to explore the Cotswolds.

Entering from the shared courtyard, step into the cottage to be greeted by the charming open-plan kitchen and living space, where you will find everything you need for a self-catered stay, including a wonderful range of appliances to create delicious meals, or choose to sit and relax in one of the bright and inviting armchairs over a glass of wine whilst catching up with the news of the day on the wall mounted flat-screen TV.

On the first floor you will find a second spot where you can kick back and relax in the snug sitting area, it makes a wonderful escape with a good book in hand as you snuggle up into the corner sofa enjoying the electric fire.

On the second floor is the bedroom, boasting a king-size bed and luxuriously appointed with its own television, ample storage space and its own gleaming shower room, it makes it a lovely spot to unwind.

While a further shower room rests on the first floor there is plenty of preparation space to get ready for your action-packed day.

Sit out in the courtyard with a refreshing cup of coffee to start your day, or if you fancy getting out and about, then you can find all that Stow-on-the-Wold has to offer on your doorstep; believed to date back to the 10th century when it was originally settled as a fortification due to its location, you can meander through the narrow streets, apparently created in this manner to control livestock sold at the regular fairs, to now find a selection of quaint shops and tearooms to sample.

You will also pick up on the importance of the town during the English Civil War; enjoy a refreshing pint in historic King's Head, or a bite to eat in the Porch House.

If you travel slightly further afield, Bourton-on the-Water provides an extremely tranquil experience, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds', it provides its visitors with picturesque bridges to stroll across and a good host of attractions including the Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection, its very own Model Village and the excitement of the Birdland & Jurassic Journey providing a large park and gardens to explore housing over five hundred birds and thirty species of dinosaur, well-worth a visit no matter your age!

Evenlode Cottage makes a perfect base for a break in the Cotswolds.

About the location

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
