The kitchen area in particular is very well thought out and had everything we needed. We didn't use the lounge area, 2 bathrooms was useful so we didn't have to go up another flights of stairs! The cottage is in a great location, we would recommend it and would stay again if we wished to sat in Stow,

  • "The development of Evenlode had been completed to a high standard."

Welcome pack was much appreciated. Space in the shower rooms was somewhat tight. It was good to have hot electric towel rails, but 24/7 is unnecessary and somewhat wasteful. House book requested user to keep fire doors closed as only one point of egress. I suggested to the owner that door closures be fitted then user is safe without having to think about it. We experienced a parking issue once the double gates had been negotiated. There appeared to be three spaces and it proved impossible to reverse into designated space having driven into yard. I resorted to reversing into the yard. Subsequently found out that one of the other two vehicles should not have been there! We experienced picture drop out on digital tv for long periods; unknown whether that was terrestrial or satellite as both aerials installed.

Hi Roger Many thanks for your feedback and we will look into the issues that you have raised. We did apologise re the parking issue which you experienced and we sorted immediately once we were aware of the issue. Best regards Julie Property Owner

  • "An absolute gem of a cottage, cosy, clean fresh decor, well-equipped and spotless throughout."

Great to be so close to shops and facilities yet in a quiet private courtyard with parking. I particularly liked the way the cottage was laid out over the three floors, making best use of the space. There was a lovely feel to rooms, especially the snug/living room. Things to be aware of although they didn't detract from my stay, the outside space is seating in front of the cottage in the shared courtyard, so not private, and the entrance gate is not the easiest to open and close, but these are really minor points. Also be aware that the A429 leading into the town gets very busy at certain times of the day, arriving at 4pm I had to queue for some time in traffic. But would definitely book again.

Dear Michelle, Thanks for taking time to leave feedback which is very important to us and also for these lovely comments. So pleased you enjoyed your stay and we would really like to welcome you back to Evenlode at some point in the future. Best regards Julie Property Owner

The accommodation was well resourced with everything you could want, clean and modern as well as very warm. The welcome pack with cake, milk and flowers was a really lovely touch. There are a lot of steep old style stairs over the 3 floors so I would not recommend to anyone with knee or hip pains. There was a car parked directly outside the door which was a bit awkward. Otherwise- perfect.

Hi Fran, Many thanks for your feedback which we do appreciate and pleased you enjoyed your time at Evenlode. Apologies for the car being parked outside the door during your stay; not sure why this should be as only three cars are allowed to park in the courtyard and they each have their own allocated space against the wall. Hope this did not cause too much of an issue for you. Best regards Julie Property Owner

Quality fittings, comfy bed and duvet. Good shower room and towels. Well equipped kitchen for all our needs. Clean and tidy throughout. Car parking was tight for our large vehicle behind secure gates, just a little hard to unpack and repack the car, but not a problem at all. Neighbours were polite and helpful. Only small gripe was the departure time of 9 am which I thought was very early when you are asked to strip and bag up the bedding and the towels and take all rubbish to the bins etc and ensure all utensils and pots are in the dishwasher and windows left opened, I understand Covid precautions, but 9 am departure and 4 pm arrival I think were quite extreme at either side compared to other accommodations. (it’s a 7 hour cleaning turnaround ! ). Having said that the cottage was lovely and very well kept and obviously well cared for.

The property

Located in the centre of the ancient market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, Evenlode Cottage is the perfect location for a break from everyday life with your loved one.

Arranged over three floors, the cottage has undergone a complete transformation to cater for the requirements of the ever more discerning visitor, to bring you a wonderful retreat from which to explore the Cotswolds.

Entering from the shared courtyard, step into the cottage to be greeted by the charming open-plan kitchen and living space, where you will find everything you need for a self-catered stay, including a wonderful range of appliances to create delicious meals, or choose to sit and relax in one of the bright and inviting armchairs over a glass of wine whilst catching up with the news of the day on the wall mounted flat-screen TV.

On the first floor you will find a second spot where you can kick back and relax in the snug sitting area, it makes a wonderful escape with a good book in hand as you snuggle up into the corner sofa enjoying the electric fire.

On the second floor is the bedroom, boasting a king-size bed and luxuriously appointed with its own television, ample storage space and its own gleaming shower room, it makes it a lovely spot to unwind.

While a further shower room rests on the first floor there is plenty of preparation space to get ready for your action-packed day.

Sit out in the courtyard with a refreshing cup of coffee to start your day, or if you fancy getting out and about, then you can find all that Stow-on-the-Wold has to offer on your doorstep; believed to date back to the 10th century when it was originally settled as a fortification due to its location, you can meander through the narrow streets, apparently created in this manner to control livestock sold at the regular fairs, to now find a selection of quaint shops and tearooms to sample.

You will also pick up on the importance of the town during the English Civil War; enjoy a refreshing pint in historic King's Head, or a bite to eat in the Porch House.

If you travel slightly further afield, Bourton-on the-Water provides an extremely tranquil experience, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds', it provides its visitors with picturesque bridges to stroll across and a good host of attractions including the Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection, its very own Model Village and the excitement of the Birdland & Jurassic Journey providing a large park and gardens to explore housing over five hundred birds and thirty species of dinosaur, well-worth a visit no matter your age!

Evenlode Cottage makes a perfect base for a break in the Cotswolds.

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
