  • "A very comfortable cottage with good facilities and an excellent welcome box."

During the July heatwave it remained cool indoors which was a relief. An ideal location for activities along the River Wye and walks both long and short in the area. It's not too far for walks near Abergavenny and the Black Mountains as well. Also handy for places to visit close by such as Goodrich castle and the Butterfly Zoo. Noise from traffic early morning did disturb us though.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Happy Cow Cottage and loved the area as much as we do. Property Owner

  • "We fell in love with The Happy Cow!"

Fantastic location…just 5 minutes walk up to Symonds Yat Rock! The beds were super comfy and it was great having the 2 toilets. Everything we needed was provided, plus a lovely welcome package! We had a great week with good weather and will definitely be back, as this part of Britain is so gorgeous.

  • "This was our second stay at Happy Cow Cottage."

It's in a great location with easy access to Symonds Yat Rock as well as all the other great walks in the area. The friendly Saracens Head is just down the hill for fantastic, reasonably priced food and a riverside view. The cottage is well laid out, the welcome pack is on a whole other level (i want that bara brith recipe) and it's definitely dog friendly, rather than dog tolerant (there's a difference) which makes the stay so much more pleasant. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are a good size so you don't feel cramped, even with 4 adults! Its a warm, welcoming place and we hope to visit again soon! On a utility/admin basis - the heating is easy to work, the water is hot, and the wifi signal is great!

Thank you Nicola for the lovely feedback. It was a pleasure to host you again and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Property Owner

  • "We had an absolutly amazing holiday just spent this month in the cottage, with partner and family for Easter."

The cottage is everything described and better, it is the perfect location to explore Symonds Yat, Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. We loved the welcome pack of advice on local walks, pubs, attractions etc., Severn cider, bara brith and the 2 dogs loved the toy. Its hard to find a dog friendly cottage in such a great location, thank you for that. The cottage itself is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed and we will definitly book the place again with a group of 4 when coming to visit again. About the noise from the road? We do not understand what all the fuss is about. It really is not a problem, it is no busier than any countryside road, to be expected near Symonds Yat Rock. In the late evening and through the night there is hardly a car that passes. All honesty why would you be inside the cottage during the day when it is more busier? There is the beautiful Forest of Dean to explore on your door step!

Thank you James for the lovely feedback. We are so happy to hear you love the area and the cottage as much as we do. We look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon. Property Owner

The cottage itself was perfect for a family of 4 and our 2 dogs. It’s in an ideal location to explore the Forest of Dean and many parts can be explored just walking from the house. The rental included some tasty local produce for humans and dogs alike, very unexpected. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

  • "A lovely place to spend a magical werk in the Girest of Dean."

A short ( steep!!) Walk away from the log cabin cafe at the top of the rock, with the awesome views of the gorges. Gorgeous welcome basket...the bnai brith was delicious! Advice for other renters.. approach up the hill, then back into the parking spit ..then youve loads of room, well clear of the road..which is at its narrowest point! Lovely pub and food down at the Saracens Head...a good walk both down and back up aftereards, but worth every step!

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. There are so many lovely walks around the cottage and we are glad you enjoyed them. The Saracen's Head is one of our favourites too! We hope to welcome you back to the cottage again sometime. Property Owner

If I could add anything for improvement it would be that the double bed upstairs is very creaky, that kept me awake more than the traffic noise, so much so I had to sleep in the second bedroom downstairs for the whole stay.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback and we are happy you enjoyed your stay at Happy Cow Cottage. It has never been mentioned that the bed is creaky so we will check that out. Property Owner

Very quaint, it was well equipped with everything we needed. Nikki had left us a delicious welcome pack - a fruit loaf, butter to spread on it, a bottle of local milk and two very tasy bottles of Herefordshire cider. We drank this next to the open fire and decided that we were very lucky people to be able to get away at last. We had great fun finding all the cow related items around the cottage. My daughter eventually found 34 I believe! We spent our two days walking along the Wye and all around Symond's Yat - fantastic views and great scenery. Definitely one to keep in mind for another visit.

Thank you Hilary for your lovely feedback, we are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Happy Cow Cottage. We knew we had a lot of cow themed decor but have never actually counted! We look forward to welcoming you back sometime. Property Owner

Being situated only minutes from Symonds Yat was just wonderful. All the home comforts were a real treat and very welcoming. The cottage is right on the road, which can sometimes be busy, but it did not disturb us and totally worth it given the excellent location. You are literally in the middle of the Forest of Dean as soon as you step out of the Happy Cow Cottage – so many walks, so many wonders to see. Sad to leave, but we will be back.

Thank you for your feedback, we are happy to hear that you and the lovely Meg enjoyed your stay. The road you mention is a single track road with speed and width restrictions. Every thing we required was provided for and more. There was a wonderful welcome package of local items including things for our dog! The information provided was spot on and when we did have a question, they replied very quickly. The place was clearly cleaned with exceptional care; the garden was 100% secure for our dog; the road can be noisy as others mentioned I suppose, but no more than we expected and they kindly provide ear plugs, which I hasten to add neither of us actually required! We visited in December and they had put up lovely Christmas decorations. You can see the thought in everything and it was greatly appreciated. Signal is a bit weak there but you can get it from a stone's throw away. In contrast, the WiFi was excellent.

  • "What a little gem this cottage is!"

I would like to call it a diamond, however the lack of notice regarding the road leading to the cottage would stop me. This road is challenging to say the least!, very narrow with drivers driving way too fast. Also there is no write up telling potential renters that the noise goes on throughout the night. So if you open the windows during the night there is no respite.!!

We loved the location of the cottage, being able to access the valley and forest from the door step was a great plus. We really appreciated and enjoyed our complementary gifts especially the barabrith and Splash our pooch loved his toy. Nice touch. The cottage was characterful, cosy and comfortable and we had access to everything we needed. Yes the cottage was on a main through county lane which could get busy at times but we were out most of the day and the road is quiet in the afternoon/evening with the odd car passing by. We knew this before we went and took ear plugs for over night so we didn't notice much if any noise. All in all we had a great time and will be back.

They even dropped firewood off at our door when we had run out and were there to answer all our queries. The Happy Cow is so cosy and has a wonderful atmosphere. We enjoyed visiting the nearby milkshed to make our own milkshakes and the fantastic Symonds Yat Rock view point is just on the door step, make sure to catch the sunrise/ sunset :) Thank you Nikki and Paul, we will be back! Had that been the description at the time of booking I probably would not have booked, as traffic noise is something we are trying to get away from. So in short I feel that your behaviour was underhanded and unprofessional and as a result we will be contacting trading standards with all the details and will see if any legal action can be taken.
