  • "The coach house was a beautiful compact and comfortable accommodation but we found a few things that were either misleading/inaccurate or disappointing."

Upon arrival we were shocked at how close the main house was to the accommodation. The owners front door was aproximately 6mtrs to the start of our steps. Their cars were parked below the property which also meant that the owners leaving and returning by car was amplified by the design of the accommodation. The biggest problem was that we were woken up on occasions (once at 5:30 am and around 7:30 on a couple of mornings) when the owner left for work. On a number of occasions there was clattering about etc which wasn't conducive to a relaxing environment. The owner was lovely and very welcoming and we completely understand that people have to work for a living etc but it would have been nice to have known that the owner works from home and is often seen and heard noodling around. We will therefore not be returning to this property or be using Sykes in the future as we feel the description and reviews didn't accurately reflect this accommodation.

I'm so pleased you found The Coach House so clean and comfortable. We pride ourselves on maintaining a high level of cleanliness and do our best to ensure guests have a lovely comfortable stay. I was surprised to read that you were unaware how close The Coach House was to the main house as coach houses ae traditionally closely located to main houses or home buildings, historically being where the coach and horses were housed with the living quarters over the stables and carriage store - hence coach house. We do our utmost to ensure guests are not disturbed by the cars below and when they are used at night or early morning, they are kept out on the driveway, away from The Coach House. In the case mentioned, there were two unexpected early morning call outs which could not be ignored. We try our very best to ensure guests have a perfect stay with minimal disturbance or noise and we have not had a complaint regarding this at The Coach House in over 25 years of holiday letting. Pleasant outside country surroundings not overlooked or overcrowded outside. Unfortunately as much as we wanted to sit outside on the balcony we couldn’t due to the extreme hot weather when we visited. Even the ice cold beer was getting warm within 5 minutes!

It is central to all the main places like Gloucester, Ross on Wye, Hay on Wye and not to far out for Bristol. The Coach House itself was lovely and the owners were very friendly. The setting for the property made for a wonderfully relaxing environment to just sit & enjoy a drink and some peace & quiet. Would stay again for sure.

  • "Of the many holiday cottages that I have stayed in over the years, this cottage was outstanding in cleanliness and comfort with high quality fittings and decor throughout."

A beautiful, peaceful location. Unexpectedly for June, the weather was cold and continuously wet, and I didn't mind spending 2/7 days relaxing inside the cottage just reading and watching TV whilst the rain continued to pour down. I even needed the electric log fire on during a couple of the cold wet evenings, creating a lovely cosy atmosphere. A wonderful place to relax.

  • "Was surprised to see that this cottage had been let for several years (at least) since everything felt fresh and new."

A car is a must as it is quite isolated but a good spot for touring the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean and the river Severn. The surrounding roads are quite narrow in places and I would be nervous walking them. TV reception wanders about a bit but we weren't there to watch tv. Auto retune fixed it on the one occasion it mattered.
