  • "Well appointed and equipped."

Quite shady position. The brook that cascades very close to the back door could be delightful for some, but noisy for others. Carrying one's belongings from vehicle to cottage could be difficult for the less able and not great in the rain. The positive is that it is free of passing traffic.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Primrose Cottage. We hope you made the most of the lovely settings and wonderful things to do in the area. We would love to welcome you again soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Primrose Cottage. • "We loved our stay at the cottage."

Just 2 things. 1. The bath plug was very tricky for the first few days and would not 'unplug' to let the water drain. Luckily my husband managed to get it to work. 2. Just a thought but on the kitchen door and beam by the master bedroom near the stairs. Some padding of some kind would be beneficial. Anyone over 5'9" is going to be banging their head a few times (which we did). Just a thought in that regard, but do appreciate the property is a Grade II and that might not be in keeping with the experience. One last thing, the heating wall control does not work. We tried changing the batteries but not luck. Other than that, the cottage was just lovely and it was the perfect place to disconnect and relax.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Primrose Cottage. It's wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed staying at the cottage and thank you for the feedback, we will pass on your comments to the Housekeeper and Owner for review. • "Really lovely cottage in a fabulous location."

Ideally situated to explore so many beautiful parts of the Cotswolds. Just a couple of observations that would make things even better: - 1 tiny roll of loo paper?? Surely you could stretch to a couple of rolls at very little expense and save guests having to ration it out?! - there's nowhere to hang wet towels in the bathroom. The addition of a towel rail over/ beside the radiator would make a huge difference - no mattress protector on the double bed which wasn't ideal - and lastly, the 'welcome' pack is basically a list of does and don'ts, not very friendly. There's no local information at all which is so unusual for a holiday cottage and no guest book for others to pass on their great finds. A couple of very old guide books doesn't really provide the inspiration needed and they need updating

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We have passed your comments on to housekeeping. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner

We understand the cottage is old and are very accepting of this, but it was a shame the fridge door had no storage for milk etc. the oven could do with a proper clean and the kitchen floor was quite dirty. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings were lovely and well thought out and put together. All in all we had a lovely mini break in Blockley

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. We can only apologise for the cleanliness issues that you experienced and we will make sure to rectify this for future guests. Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that you had problems with the internet at the property. This has since been checked and is working well. I tried to clean a shelf but the oven was so bad it was impossible to use anyway, giving off so much smoke it was likely to setoff the smoke detectors. As I was intending to be in the cottage all week as I was using the break to do some writing, the lack of a useable oven was a real problem. Please ask the owner to remedy before the next guests arrive or it will be three sets of guests who complain about the problem. I did leave a message for the cleaners in the hope that they would clean the oven.

We really enjoyed our stay the cottage was lovely As was stated it’s a good distance to walk to the cottage especially when carrying all the stuff for the stay so not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties but when in the location was wonderful especially with the Brook running through the garden The building work next door seems to be coming to an end so shouldn’t be a problem going forward The cottage itself was extremely well equipped with everything you need the bedrooms and bedding were first class, plenty of hot water and it was lovely and warm The only slight criticism we would make was the oven needs a clean and the lounge carpet and the sofa are getting ready for a shampoo and a mind your head sign on both sides of the kitchen door for anyone over 5 10’ but that being said we would stay again without hesitation

Thank you for your feedback. We will pass your comments onto the owner. We are pleased you enjoyed the lovely location next to the brook and look forward to welcoming you back again. Best wishes Character Cottages. Property Owner

Very tastefully decorated and lovely character. The owners has provided everything you could possibly need. Loved the stream, so relaxing to sit next to. Location is gorgeous. I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone with mobility issues, as stairs are steep and access to the cottage is on foot. Listing stated building work next door, but we didn’t hear anything due to the stream and it’s behind trees so we couldn’t see it either. Blockley is lovely also. The garden is a bit wild, it could do with a bit of a tidy up in places. Loved our stay and we would be pleased to return.

  • "A good stay and a cute location."

Previous comments on the state of the garden are worth noting, and there had been no attempt to clean outside: the windows had weeks' worth of spider webs accumalated on them as well as some inside the house too, and bins had been left unemptied when we arrived. It is worth noting that there is building work outside in the adjacent property that starts by 8am, which should have been mentioned in the listing. For sure, we would have booked elsewhere if we had known. A blind for the skylight in the top bedroom would have been welcomed so not to be disturbed when it starts to get light.

Thank you for providing us with feedback on your stay at Primrose Cottage (Blockley). We can only apologise for the issues that you experienced during your stay. We will investigate the issues with cleanliness and the bins. Sadly, we are not always made aware of building works surrounding our properties. If we had known about these prior to your stay we would have course informed you prior to your stay. We hope that you were able to enjoy your stay despite these issues and we hope to see you again soon. All the best, Character Cottages. Property Owner

There is a babbling brook just behind and you can have breakfast outside right on the brook. The decoration was extremely tasteful and antique, and the property was well equipped with BT Wifi, a smart TV, adequate heating (and a log fire which was a great touch), antique style furnishings, and comfortable beds. We particularly liked the early generation rifle that was hung over the fireplace. There were also books around the property which were very nice and the kitchen was well kitted out with all the crockery and dishes etc. The service was also top class and Darren came out straight away whenever we needed anything so it was a lovely touch. The location is good and quiet with lovely hikes that you can start and end right at the cottage. There are lots of lovely villages and towns within driving distance so there is plenty to do.

The perfect location for long walks (check out Bourton Woods closeby and surrounding fields), with the sound of the brook outside so calming! The cottage itself is very well equipped, and the fire in the living room a beautiful feature - perfect for a cosy winter afternoon. The bed was one of the best features of the house, we both slept so well the entire 2 weeks we were there - so comfortable and a really lovely bedroom. Due to covid, Maggie was unable to enter the cottage to clean but the easy communication with her meant she could collect our laundry contact free. Highly recommend!

  • "Primrose Cottage was a great place to stay over Christmas for the three of us."

Extremely clean and we loved waking up to the babbling brook. On Christmas, we found a picturesque ramble through the nearby woods. Each day it was a pleasure to return to our place along the brook.

The property

Primrose Cottage is a beautiful Grade ll listed, Cotswold stone cottage, which sits peacefully next to a lovely babbling brook, in the picturesque village of Blockley.

The cottage is ideal for a relaxing break for a couple, a small family or small group of friends.

Be welcomed into the characterful sitting room and look forward to snuggling up on the two-seater sofa or armchair, whilst watching a film on the Smart TV, whilst the woodburning stove gently glows the room and creates a warm ambience.

Head into the smart kitchen/diner to create a heart-warming meal using the contemporary facilities, before gathering with your loved ones around the country kitchen table to dig into your meal and uncork a bottle of wine to toast to a wonderful holiday.

Take the conversation outside to catch the last of the evening sun where you can take a seat at the bistro table and enjoy the peaceful garden that has a long stretch of lawn, with stunning views of the hills beyond and the babbling brook that runs adjacent to the property.

Be sure to make use of the charcoal barbecue that is available in summer months!

When night falls, a choice of two elegant bedrooms await upstairs; the master is located on the second-floor in the eaves and enjoys stunning views over the garden, with a wrought iron king-size bed, whilst the second bedroom, located on the first-floor along with the family bathroom, contains a double bed where you can dive into a compelling novel from the selection on offer, before you lay your head to rest for the night.

In the morning, have an awakening rinse in the bath, before getting ready to head out for the day, where you can start in the picturesque village of Blockley which has a country pub, The Great Western Arms, a historic Norman church, Church of St Peter and St Paul, and the popular community owned shop and café which serves delicious food during the day and hosts a couple of dinner evenings too.

Surrounded by wonderful countryside, there are many walks and cycle routes on its doorstep including The Monarch’s Way long distance walking trail which passes through the village and can be followed either north to Chipping Campden or up and over the ridge towards Moreton-in-Marsh, skirting the fringes of Batsford Arboretum which is a 56-acre garden with trees and shrubs from around the world in the plant centre and a café.

At Primrose Cottage, you are close to the bustling market town of Stow-on-the-Wold where you can take a walk around the market square, which is the heart of the community and offers boutique shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, as well as the Farmers’ Market which occurs every second Thursday of each month, featuring inviting local produce.

For a memorable holiday, stay at Primrose Cottage.

About the location

BLOCKLEY

Moreton-in-Marsh 3 miles; Bourton-on-the-Water 11 miles; Cheltenham 22 miles.

An ancient village once famous for its silk and corn mills, Blockley lies just 3 miles from Moreton-in-Marsh and features a unique collection of honey-coloured buildings with a pretty village green, two excellent pubs, serving hearty food and real ale, as well as a village store and café, serving dinner on a Friday night. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the village, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way and the Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close by. Very close by, Moreton-in-Marsh boasts many elegant 18th century buildings and is home to traditional inns, tea rooms, restaurants and individual shops to suit all tastes. It also offers its own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday. The highest town in the Cotswolds, this ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. Close by is Bourton-on-the-Water, which lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds as the River Windrush runs through the centre. Also within reach is the spa town of Cheltenham, boasting an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, as well as being famous for its horseracing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within driving distance, making Blockley a great base for a Cotswolds holiday.

Note: The neighbouring property behind, at the end of the garden, is having an extension built, approx 30m away. You may experience some noise disruption.

Note: Regrettably, due to the steepness of the stairs, a low window in the top bedroom and the fast-flowing stream running through the garden, the property does not accept children under the age of 8, though babes-in-arms are accepted.

Note: The walk from the end of the road, where luggage can be unloaded, to Primrose Cottage is approximately 75 yards, on a flat footpath alongside the brook.

Note: Blockley is in a valley and guests should be aware that mobile phone reception can be very poor.

Note: An initial basket of logs is provided for the woodburning stove from October through to March; guests should purchase their own log supplies locally outside of these months.

Note: TV reception is very poor at the property, however the normal online channels such as iPlayer and itv player are all available.

Note: A telephone is provided, with an honesty box for the cost of the calls made.
