“After a hectic day working in London, myself and my colleagues were greeted by Mr and Mrs Bates with a warm welcome.”

Orchard cottage was just what we needed, ample parking, a good shower and all the cooking appliances nessasary to survive away from the wives. Most evenings the first port of call was enjoying a cold beer admiring the quiet beautiful countryside. We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Bates for their kindness and Flexibility. We will definitely be staying here again in the future. Gareth and the team

About the location

ASHENDON

Aylesbury 10 miles; Oxford 20 miles.

The thriving village of Ashendon lies north of the Chilterns, and is surrounded by beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside and many lovely walks including Midshires Way, Bernwood Jubilee Way and Aylesbury Ring. The village also has a traditional pub serving good food and real ale. Centred around a village green, nearby Cuddington has a excellent village store with a Post Office and a 16th century thatched local pub servicing local fine food and ales, and has been the location of many Midsomer Murders episodes. Just a short drive away is the ancient town of Aylesbury, boasting many listed buildings, stunning clock tower, a pretty, cobbled market square holding regular markets, and The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, set in a walled garden in the heart of the ancient old town. The area has many golf courses, lovely walks and cycle routes which can be enjoyed in the surrounding open countryside, along the easy paths along the Grand Union Canal. Enjoy a day in Oxford, The City of Dreaming Spires, with its abundance of attractions, including the oldest university teaching room, Bodleian Library, Botanical Gardens and museums. Blenheim Palace, the ancestral home of Winston Churchill and World Heritage Site has many walks around the Capability Brown landscaped parkland. A little further afield is Henley-on-Thames with its annual Royal Regatta, Stratford-upon-Avon birthplace of William Shakespeare and Warwick with its magnificent castle. A great destination for a special holiday.
