  • "What a fantastic little cottage !"

The owner sent a very informative email once booked with links to walks and details of local pubs. The cottage was stunning and had everything you would need and more, it was spotless and just perfect for the two of us. It was in a great location for visiting local villages and as said a short walk to three fantastic pubs. We loved this cottage and hope to be back sometime because it was a little gem !

We are happy to hear you had such an enjoyable stay and found the property clean and welcoming. We're glad to hear the email was informative and you were able to explore the area and look forward to welcoming you back again. Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "As soon as we walked in to the property we could smell damp."

My wife hung clothes in the cupboard in the bedroom and that was a big mistake because they came out smelling of damp. We had to open all windows to ease the smell. We had to wash cutlery and the glass board in the kitchen before we could use them and the sink draining board was dirty. Considering the high price to stay here, I expected considerably better than what we found. Sitting out the front enjoying the late sun was nice and all neighbours walking past were very pleasant and had a chat.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback following your recent stay. The front garden really is the perfect location for unwinding whilst watching the world go by and we are glad to hear that you had pleasant exchanges with the neighbours whilst catching the last of the summer sun. In regards to your comments regarding damp at the property the owner has personally visited the property and has not experienced this themselves but will certainly monitor over the coming months. We are sorry to hear that you experienced some cleanliness issues in the kitchen. This is certainly not the norm and we will raise this with our housekeeping team. Fully satisfied with all aspects. Only minor suggestion would be to replace the odd assortment of mugs with a matching set. Would be happy to return again in the future having now already stayed here twice.

So glad you had another enjoyable stay at Appin and we hope to welcome you back at some point soon, kind regards. Property Owner

  • "What a delightful cottage on the edge of a beautiful Cotswolds village."

The view is amazing when you wake up in the morning and just look out to fields. The cottage is just off a main road , so great base to explore the area . It’s lovely arriving back each day to sit on the front patio with a G&T , it’s a sun trap the sun shines here all day . The cottage is equipped with most things you need and is very comfortable inside . There is a small alley way to the right of next doors cottage with a little stream running along side , it takes you straight to pub , but is ideal to walk dogs on . If you just pass the pub on the other side of the road next to the cricket field there is a pair of iron gates which is the start of the wild flower meadow so lovely for a walk round the lakes with the dog . We plan to return next year

Thank you for your feedback regarding the cottage. We are pleased to hear you had such an enjoyable time exploring the area and the local amenities. We look forward to welcoming you back next year. Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Basically a very pleasant and comfortable cottage for two people set in a lovely part of the Cotswolds within easy reach of numerous attractions, but, and there is always a but, the devil is in the detail and it is in the detail that this cottage fails."

Our feeling was that the owners have rather given up. The occupancy rate is clearly rather low and the level of care and attention likewise. All of the following complaints are, in themselves minor, but they add up to making what could be a really lovely experience turn out to be a bit frustrating. The information (or perhaps instruction) booklet clearly dates from Covid and has not been updated, similarly the rack of tourist information leaflets is wildly out of date, many are dated 2018. The lighting, particularly in the living room is so poor that reading during the evening is difficult. The TV is very small and the DVD player only worked once. The instruction book did not seem to refer to the TV on the premises and the remote control did not work properly. The kitchen was quite good but the fridge was only a larder fridge without even a compartment to make a tray of ice cubes or to freeze ice packs for picnics. There is no washing machine which is unusual these days. I believe that electrical appliances should have a PAT test certificate, only one had and this was some years out of date. I also believe there should be a gas safety certificate on the premises but we couldn’t find one (forgive me if I am wrong about either of these points)

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Appin Cottage. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the property and the area. With regards to your feedback, we have been in touch with the Owner and can confirm the leaflets are updated and ones that are no longer relevant are removed, but some that are a little old, are still valid and nothing has really changed, so these haven't been removed. Of course you could also check online if worried times might have changed. Regarding lights, i believe additional reading light has been installed in the property for those who enjoy a good book in the evening. With regards to the fridge, it does state it's only a fridge on the website, due to the size of the property. Again the property details do not show a washing machine, the kitchen just doesn't have the space and we think guests would rather have the storage and good cooking facilities. We can confirm everything is PAT Tested that needs to be and this is NOT a legal requirement. The property also has a Gas Safety Certificate that is valid, both Manor and the Owner have a copy of this and it doesn't need to be left at the property. We would love to welcome you again soon for another stay. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Appin Cottage was a lovely little property in a fabulous location and was well enough equipped for a short break."

Lack of outdoor space was an issue for us as we enjoy spending time outside relaxing. There is only a (very) small area to sit which is on the road so no privacy. The cottage unfortunately was not clean when we arrived. There were dirty trays in the oven and the floor needed a good clean. 2 hoovers are provided however neither worked so I had to resort to a dustpan and brush. I wouldn't like to say how long the floors had not been cleaned but they were not good. There was also a very strong pungent smell of what we thought was mould/damp/drains as soon as we entered the cottage and remained throughout our stay. Due to the lack of a hoover, I lifted the rug to shake off outside to discover it was full of mould on the underside. There were also no starter logs provided as stated in the listing. As the cottage has a damp feel, it is quite cold so logs are necessary whatever the weather. Overall, it is a lovely little place but could do with being checked by the owners. I have already been in touch and informed them of the issues.

Thank you for your feedback on Appin Cottage. we are pleased to hear that you loved the cottage and location. We do advertise the property with outdoor seating to the front of the property, with pictures on our listing. We can only apologise that our cleanliness level fell below our usual high standards and this has been passed onto the housekeeping team. We have checked the drains, they are all clear and working fine. The rug is not mouldy, just the reverse side rubber-grip has deteriorated but there's no smell. We only provide logs for the wood burner during the colder months. The Hoovers have been checked and are in working order. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage."

Perfectly placed for visiting the Cotswolds. It has everything you need and we certainly felt at home. Pretty Burford is a matter of minutes away. We also visited Blenheim Palace for their Christmas market and Sleeping Beauty display. Beautiful but expensive. I loved it though. We visited the Wychwood pub which was nice. The Lamb, also nearby, is the quintessential Cotswold pub tho we did have a rather unpleasant interaction by email with the pub owner who was extremely rude and offensive. This apart we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Appin cottage and would definitely return though we will probably avoid The Lamb!

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Appin Cottage. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you had time to visit the Christmas Market at Blenheim. It's lovely to hear you enjoyed some of the local pubs, the Wychwood is one of our favourites. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Sadly on arrival the cottage hadn't been cleaned after the last guests had departed though it was quickly rectified it wasn't great arriving to previous guests used laundry etc. The views out of the cottage bedroom are lovely to wake up to and after the cleaning issue was rectified we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Right in the middle of everywhere we wished to visit during our stay. It made it all the more special that we went in the festive period. Many beautiful places to see with lovely Christmas lights and decorations. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed, we took our own towels as we were unsure but the host even provided these. Left us milk in the fridge for arrival and we really enjoyed the log fire. The cottage was perfect for us and a real quiet location, laying in bed looking over the endless fields - bliss. Lovely big bath for you to use after a long day of exploring then plenty of kitchen utensils and utilities to ensure you can cook a nice meal then cosy up by the fire. We had a great stay and felt there was nothing the host could improve on. We only wish we could’ve stayed longer! I would recommend this place and in fact have already suggested our friends stay here when they plan to visit the cotswolds in 2021. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The next morning I found everything was frozen as the fridge setting was put on maximum, my food was ruined and the majority thrown out hence a waste of money. There appears to be a problem with the oven which makes a loud clanging noise when heating. The property was not properly cleaned and was disgusting under the sofa, I only moved it slightly to hoover around and saw dog chews, dust, rubbish......I took photos as proof!

Many thanks for your feedback. We have been in to Appin Cottage to check on the oven, upon inspection there was no loud clanging noise whilst it was heating up. About the location

BURFORD

Swinbrook 2.4 miles; Little Barrington 3.5 miles; Minster Lovell 5.6 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not the most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, it is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located midway between Oxford and Cheltenham, it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit. The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits! With little change over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and tea shops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all within ten miles.
