  • "The property was filthy skirting boards and doors looked like they have never been cleaned I had to bleach the kitchen and clean the fridge out before I’d unpack !"

!! Bed was clean but blinds upstairs need replacing and it would be nice to have a blind in the bath room and mirror in the bedroom ! Windows were filthy bout side garden over grown and full of weeds also when we went in to the bathroom some ones boxer shorts were left on the towel rail !!! Good location and could be a little gem if it was cared for !

Thank you for the feed back, The bathroom window has obscured glass and we do apologise that an item of clothing wasn't spotted at the time, this has been rectified moving forward. The windows were cleaned on the 5th of September and are cleaned every two months. After a very rainy summer and autumn, this did cause some unprecedented debris and garden overgrowth, the garden had been booked in for work for 10th October and we can confirm it has now been weeded. Thank you for letting us know about the skirting boards and doors, we have now had an end of season professional deep clean with planned maintenance for the end of 2023 and we are employing a a new cleaning team from January 2024 to ensure property standards improve for our guest comfort. We are also thrilled you enjoyed the location. Property Owner

  • "We arrived with no idea where to park on a small road."

We eventually located the back gate of the house. It was difficult to read the house number on the gate as the paintwork was in a state of disrepair. The garden was in a terrible state. It was covered in weeds, the AstroTurf had real grass growing through it. There was a child's ball lying in the hedge, broken decorative pots, the base of the rotary dryer sticking above the ground and a pot filled with cigarette butt's and a packet of wipes. We found the key box and entered the kitchen. The house was dirty. I have pictures of filth covered floor wipes, surface wipes, the dirty fridge, filthy cupboards, dirty hob, grimy oven and oven hood. The sun was streaming in and there was no curtain to help reduce glare. There were no bath towels laid out, we eventually found them stacked untidily in the airing cupboard. They appeared washed. The bed linen was un-ironed. We were unable to switch the shower on in the bathroom. There bathroom window wouldn't open. The towel rail was covered in dust. The bathroom taps, basin and shower fittings were covered in limescale. The shower rail was almost hanging off the wall and there was no toilet roll holder or lock on the bathroom door. There were no curtains or blinds in two bedrooms and the bathroom. The banister was wobbly. The living room / dining room had cobwebs on the light fixtures and spiders by plugs. The floor by the patio doors were stained black, assumably by water ingress from leaking fixtures. There was no garden furniture to sit out on. The front garden was also covered in weeds. We spent the first hour cleaning what we had to use in the kitchen. I had brought my own sponge/scourer, washing liquid, tea towel which was just as well because the house had a used sponge available which should have been in the bin and a virtually empty washing up bottle. The sun dropped and so did the temperature. It was freezing downstairs and the only source of heat were storage heaters that were on a timer and stone cold. After eating we sat in front of a TV that had no service to broadcast tv and so tried to use the apps on the smart TV but they had to be logged into... I didn't have passwords on me so we watched repeats on BBCiplayer in our coats. Upstairs the house was sweltering and we had no way of turning the heating down. In the morning no one could wash properly so packed our bags. We travelled to visit relatives and then in the afternoon returned to the house, packed up the car and left for home. We left a day early because the house was dirty, cold, uncomfortable with poor bathroom facilities. I can honestly say, this was one of the most upsetting breaks I have ever had. The house has great potential in a beautiful setting. It is so unfortunate that it appears unloved and uncared for. The vase of fresh flowers was a nice touch.

Thank you for your comments, The garden is being maintained once a month and we will always take on board if guests make us aware of any extra attention is needed, such as after a busy Easter period. We have spoken to the cleaners about remedial work for the garden, we have also reiterated kitchen and bathroom cleaning protocols and the need for changeover staff to alert us immediately to any maintenance required moving forward, The dining chair has now been replaced. Sykes do have a dedicated help line for guest in any property and we would have addressed any concern you had immediately if we had only known at the time, we are sorry we did not have the opportunity to help and rectify any issue at the time as we want all guests to have a great holiday. We can confirm that the banister has been fixed by our maintenance team as soon as we were made aware. Property Owner

  • "Positives first - this is a reasonably priced property in a high price area, the WiFi was good and reliable and the double glazing meant we managed to sleep."

It was pretty clean. The property should be marketed more accurately and if marketed as a no frills budget option then people would know what they are getting, We think the property could be much improved with a small amount of money (a mirror upstairs, a hairdryer and iron maybe and a bit more kitchen equipment) and where things aren’t improved a bit of clarity in the listings would go a long way. We knew where the property is (by a noisy motorway) and were between homes rather on holiday, We could also see from the pictures that there was very little that was ‘quaint’ about it in an area full of quaint cottages unless you think Astro turf is quaint. We didn’t know there were night storage heaters but if these had been turned on before we arrived the house and its occupants might not have been freezing until it came on at 10.30 pm (we had to hunt for the switch and couldn’t bring the timing forward). There is plenty of parking on the road but parking behind a garage on the slip road is not off road parking, nor was it allocated parking unless you got there before anyone else parked there. The key box was in the back garden and this wasn’t made clear. We arrived after dark and it took a while even with torches to find it. We were two people and a dog so the lack of facilities for more people were not an issue. The property is marketed as for five people and there are 5 beds but there were only four dining chairs, one three person sofa and two beanbags. Saying that, the experience was one we will dine out of for some time and made us even more delighted to move in to our new house after 3 weeks in Tetsworth.

Thank you for your feedback and highlighting issue. We will update the property description where appropriate. We replaced the dining room chairs as one was broken before your arrival. Property Owner
