"We went for a chill out relaxing holiday and that is just what we got."
Walked miles, everyone so friendly and sitting on patio watching the boats and Locke is something else.
Definitely recommend this cottage if you want to chill and do nothing.

"Neil had maintained and decorated the cottage to make it a real home from home."
The bed was very comfy. The kitchen was fully equipped for preparing meals. The setting of the cottage is second to none. It was like being transported to a gentler era. We were fortunate to have good weather to be able to sit on the patio and watch the boats and the people pass by. Most people, be they local or visitors, stopped to chat (and to comment on such an idyllic spot). We learned lots about the canal and its workings by talking with the many volunteers who helped with the lock gates. The walks along the canal are easy and pleasurable.
The parking is excellent but the winding stairs might be a problem for anyone with mobility issues.
We chose it simply as a good centre to visit Althorp, Northampton, Stowe and Bletchley Park - but it was so much more!
There was nothing not to like (except, perhaps Neil, that annoying glass lampshade in the lounge!)
That aside, thank you for a fabulous stay!

"Fantastic location right in the centre of all the fascinating canal activity."
Great pubs literally a stone's throw. Cottage full of character and tastefully decorated. WiFi and Televisions all worked well. Comfy bed. Plumbing and heating worked well too. Adequate parking right behind the property. Kitchen facilities very good.
There were a few negatives but these did not in any way spoil our holiday and are included as they could simply and easily be rectified:
The Velux skylight should be fitted with a blind else you're awakened at about 4.30am by the sunlight this time of the year.
The bathroom washbasin tap assembly is alarmingly loose.
The glass lounge light fitting is suspended at about 5'5" above the floor and banging your head on it becomes a daily annoyance.
One of the front doorstep paving slabs is loose (and could be dangerous).
All in all, this cottage is a little gem and is thoroughly recommended. Thank you very much.

"We enjoyed our stay, the bed was really comfy and loads of space for our clothes."
There was a few issues for us, the steepness and narrowness of both staircases need pointing out in the listing, we managed with it but some might not. I must have banged my head 20 times on the low glass ceiling light. Other issues were maintenance issues, shower was really slow to drain away, thought it might overflow, taps are loose in bathroom and sofa arm is broken and moved quite a bit when we leaned on it, in fact only one of us dare sit on sofa at a time. Fix these issues and it will be brilliant.

"Lovely little cottage, excellent position, enjoyed the many walks in the area, spoilt for choice where to eat, the activity around the lock, was amazing, especially as it could be enjoyed from the comfort of the front garden of the cottage, all in all a most enjoyable place to visit."

"We enjoyed our second visit to the cottage."
It is well equipped for self catering . It could do with a new teapot though. My only criticism is that the owner could move his advert from the window to the door. It did feel a bit like a goldfish bowl as so many people came up to the window to study the advert. I do appreciate the need to advertise.
The stairs are definitely not for the elderly or handicapped.

"The canalside cottage is beautifully decorated, well equipped and extremely comfortable."
It’s location next to the canal provided us with the opportunity of being able to just sit, relax and watch the world go by. However, it was also a great base from which to explore. There are so many lovely sites within easy walking distance and, equally, so many interesting places to visit that are just a short car journey away. Within a stones throw of the cottage, there is a variety of pubs/cafes/restaurants.
We will definitely recommend this cottage to friends and hope to return for another stay ourselves.

"Great location, comfortable, very nicely done out and TV in bedroom!"
Sadly we both struggled with the very steep indoor and outdoor stairs. A few little cleanliness issues as it is dog friendly. We were expecting a few more frills for the price, ie some basic toiletries and a welcome pack. However, we really enjoyed our stay.

"The cottage is in a brilliant position on the canal and it was great to sit in the front patio watching the boats going through the lock."
There is a fan here but they brought us another fan during the hot weather. As we have medical issues we mostly self cater and found everything we needed. However there was no cupboard space or enough surfaces to put our groceries as the were too many ornaments etc. The stairs are steep and winding but we managed.

"The cottage is in a perfect position at the side of the canal."
We visited for three days in May unfortunately the weather was not that good and we could not find a way of turning on the heating.
At the back the entrance is found by going up about ten metal steps which were quite steep.
Although we could get in the front door easily we were not informed about the back steps.
In the living room the central lamp is very low and as I am 6 foot I banged my head continually.
If we go again as we plan to we will probably go to cottage number 3 which is slightly bigger.
The cottage was nice and clean with two televisions a comfortable bed a well kitted out kitchen. There is a small patio at the front with two seats looking out onto the canal.
The patio wooden wall was being painted during our stay.

"We have had a lovely relaxing stay at Canal side Cottage."
The cottage was warm, cosy clean and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. We enjoyed watching the activity on the canal and people were very friendly, lovely woodland walks a really beautiful part of the country. The Boat Inn a nice pub serving good food and a shop where you could get any essentials needed, lovely Ice Cream, friendly staff, Canal Museum very interesting, nice cafe and the canal shop and Charlie who runs the boat trips all very friendly. It was nice to meet our Host Neil who certainly has chosen a lovely part of the country with the location of the cottage we wish him well for the future. We will return hopefully soon. "Wonderful location to watch barges go by."
Cottage was loveley. Nice stable door when sunny to open. Cosy when a nip in the air. Everything provided even hairdryer. Lounge on first floor nice to people watch passing folk.
Two pubs yards away both excellent. No shop in village so on arrival bring provisions, service station 5 mins by car at most. Would recommend cottage. Nice walks.

"Our only concern was that the inventory said there was a fridge freezer when in fact it was a fridge with an ice box."
Stoke Bruerne
h does not have a grocery shop, so anyone bringing frozen food would have a problem.
Apart from that the cottage was ideal, the location was perfect and we really enjoyed our stay.

"Great location."
The cottage was to a very good standard and homely. Views of the canal, lock and pub were awesome. Having an Indian Restaurant next door which had a very high standard of food was a real bonus. Good location for local visits and walks. Two great pubs within a two minute walk.
