  • "A beautiful apartment sadly flawed with some fundamental issues."

1, Steps to apartment are very steep and treacherous for anyone with any mobility issue. This needs explaining on listing. 2. Apartment is Very Very noisy. You can hear everything from above, including the piano at 0400 in the morning. 3, Mattress in vaulted room is like a blancmange. Soft and sags to the middle. Very difficult to sleep in with two people in the bed. 4. The dog....It sits outside the kitchen window barking madly whenever its outside. By the end of the week I had had enough. All such as shame as its a beautiful place, but you need good legs, ear plugs and a love of dogs, if you are going to enjoy staying here.

  • "The flat was wonderful The approach not so There are not a few steps there are LOTS and the ones down to the flat are in need of cleaning as they became very slippy in the wet due to the algae."

All that said the flat was very comfortable and well equipped; the owner/guardian Juan was helpful in the extreme it & he cannot be faulted Bridgenorth & Shropshire are very attractive and there is more than enough to fill a week The only drawback to this flat is the fact it is on Sykes who we found pretty useless

Thank you so much for staying Im glad you enjoyed the flat. Sorry about the steps I sorted it straight away when you mentioned it. Looking forward to hosting you again! Property Owner

  • "The Owners have clearly spent a lot of time and effort refurbishing the apartment to a high standard and we were happy with the facilities."

However, we had an issue with the Owners' dog and barking. The dog would bark for 15-20min periods in the hallway directly above the sitting room or in the garden which is at eye-level to the basement. The issue was reported to Sykes and we were advised that the Owners made an attempt to move the dog to an area further away. I acknowledged that I have sensitive hearing and the situation was tolerable as the noise did not continue past 9p.m. or so at night. At no point did the Owners speak to us about the issue. Unfortunately we were both awoken at 4:30a.m. on the Saturday with the dog barking and running around on the uncarpeted floor of the hallway. This continued to after 6a.m. At this point we had both had enough and, for the first time in over 25 years of staying in Sykes and other holiday rentals, we cut short our stay and left.

Thank you so much for staying! and Im so sorry you had an issue with the dog he normally doesn't bark that much so I am not sure what was happening as I was at work and the dog walker was with him. When I was informed about this by Sykes I dealt with it immediately via Sykes who said they had spoken to you. Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay at the apartment."

We love Bridgnorth and the accommodation was very well placed, only a few minutes walk into town. Great view from the balcony and windows. A very unique basement apartment, unlike anywhere we've ever stayed before. A very helpful host, would highly recommend.

Thank you so much I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and the space was conformable for you. Looking forward to having you back again! Property Owner

  • "This is our second stay in a cottage from Sykes cottages in Bridgnorth and both have been delightful."

The style of this historical basement flat, the furnishings and atmosphere is fantastic. Despite being a basement, it is high up on the hill and the views are spectacular. You could almost imagine you are staying in the lower floors of a small castle. It is well situated, although the steep stairway down to the front door may not be ideal for everyone. My family is from the area so we were familiar with much of the surroundings but it is still very easy to find your way around. There are plenty of wonderful pubs, restaurants and antiques shops to enjoy. The local supermarket and market shops provide all you need to self-cater. The bus service is very good as well. Many routes taking you through the beautiful Shropshire countryside. The kitchen is lovely but I would suggest that a little more crockery and utensils in the cupboards would enable easier self-catering. A hairdryer would be nice to include as well. I would definitely recommend this flat to anyone who enjoys the wonderful historical surroundings of England.

Thank you so much for staying and I am so glad you enjoyed the space ! Kitchen fully stocked now and hair dryer to thank you so much for the feed back! Hope you can come and stay again soon! Property Owner

  • "This is a delightful property that is ideally located to lots of things in Bridgenorth, it's only a stone's throw away from the cliff railway so if you want to go to the lower town and don't fancy climbing up/down the hill then that's an option, it's also near a fantastic pub that always had a log fire burning when I went and a beautiful church and park."

The apartment itself looks like something out of an interior design magazine, some of the furnishings have been kept and possibly restored from its original build (which I think was in the 17th century) and so it's a really nice blend of contemporary and olde English stylings. The washbasin is HUGE and I think this must have once been used for bathing infants perhaps, if you're a fan of historical properties then you will enjoy this place! The owner is very helpful and there were some really nice touches on our arrival that I wasn't expecting such as a bottle of proseco, some fresh flowers and chocolates, as well as a few essential items like bread and milk (we'd brought out own not expecting this at all!). There were also a couple of handy items such as olive oil and salt which came in useful when we decided to spend an evening in and do our own tapas night. I came to Bridgenorth on a bit of a last minute excursion - escaping home because I was having my kitchen renovated and wanted to get out the way of noise etc (especially whilst working from home) and I was pleasantly surprised by how pretty and peaceful it was here. I hope to return sooner rather later and will definitely be staying here again.

Thank you so much for your feedback Im so pleased you had nice stay ;-) Looking forward to having you back again soon! Property Owner

About the location

BRIDGNORTH

Much Wenlock 8 miles; Ironbridge 15 miles; Shrewsbury 20 miles; Ludlow 20 miles; Church Stretton 20 miles.

The market town of Bridgnorth lies in two very distinct halves - the High Town and the Low Town - separated by the red sandstone ridge on which the town is built. The two halves are connected by winding streets and flights of steps, or there is always the steep funicular railway, enabling the weary traveller to glimpse what Charles I called "the finest view in all my kingdom". A bustling Saturday street market provides an ample excuse to explore the town and examine the castle ruins, which lean at a greater angle than the Leaning Tower of Pisa! Flowing below is the River Severn, providing many pleasant riverside walks. The Severn Valley Railway runs between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, and runs a variety of steam and diesel engines through picturesque country stations. In the areas surrounding Bridgnorth, there are a wealth of country parks, impressive houses, museums and picturesque Shropshire villages, as well as easy access to The Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford, and Ironbridge Gorge, with its 10 museums and striking landscape. The area offers excellent walking, and with the popular destinations of Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Church Stretton all within easy reach, it is ideal for a visit any time of the year.
