  • "I have stayed in many holiday homes over the years but none as well-equipped as this one, it was a real bonus."

The house is beautiful, spacious and comfortable and suited all ages including the children. Everyone loved the pool! The view from the garden room is stunning and the nearby walks (especially over to the viaduct and its nearby pubs) were great. Visits to nearby Bristol, Bath, Weston-super-Mare and Cheddar Gorge made it an ideal location. If I had just the tiniest niggle it would be to have more comfortable sofas in the lounge but really, we loved our stay there and would recommend it to anyone.

  • "The Old Stables is a lovely barn conversion with stunning views."

It is comfortable and well equipped. But there are some issues that need sorting out. First and foremost is gaining entry on arrival. We were given a four digit code to access the key safe for entry to the property. There is no key safe, so we had to text the owners. (They have impaired hearing so voice calling is out of the question.) Fortunately they live close by and a lady came and let us in. Thankfully it wasn't raining while we were waiting. There are several windows with broken latches. A shower cubicle with a light that doesn't work. A heated towel rail that leaked water. The patio doors leading from the conservatory are very difficult to lock from the inside, we could only manage it from the outside then re enter the property through the kitchen patio door. These issues didn't spoil our stay but they need sorting out especially as this is a very expensive place to stay. Don't be put off from booking this property, the swimming pool is a real bonus and there are beautiful walks on your doorstep.

  • "Had a lovely bank holiday weekend stay with my family of 10 at the Old Stables."

( 6 adults & 4 Children) The conservatory has wonderful views and the property was warm and welcoming. 3 beautifully appointed upstairs bedrooms all with en-suit bathrooms . The ground floor didn't quite work for us as there is a room with bunk beds and a pull out sofa in the lounge. As some of the children were young they needed/wanted to be closer to their parents so we had adults using the sofa bed and bunks. That said, there were 10 of us and feel it would be perfect for 3 couples upstairs and older children on the ground floor. The Kitchen was very well equipped with everything and I mean everything you could think of... it has a 'shared' laundry room and other than not finding a broom , has everything available to use. I think my only negative was, there is a separate attached East Wing. This became occupied on our second day. There are no boundaries set and it was a little uncomfortable when the people there entered through the shared laundry room and sat on the garden chairs directly outside the stables. Looks like we are sharing a garden, they said !.........I couldn't say either way as I didn't know either. The pool house is warm and the water is too, great for young children . There are towels to use and although a little dated, was a great hit with the children. To get to the pool house, you need to go out through the garden and this needs better signage or even ' a sign' Overall, a lovely place to stay but maybe needs an easier booking system of pool sessions and some clarity of the grounds use with others!...

The property

Old Stables is a charming, detached property situated in a countryside setting in the village of Pensford, Somerset.

Boasting easy access to the stunning Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, extensive grounds and shared access to a pool room, Old Stables welcomes families and friends looking to come together and holiday in this beautiful home.

The property was built in 1800 as part of Belluton Grange Estate, which has now been converted into a highly desirable residence whilst retaining many of the original features, including a well and a rare Georgian Horse Wash, utilising a natural spring in the grounds.

Following a day of exploring the surrounding scenery, there’s plenty of room to kick back and relax; discover the sitting room as you keep warm beside the woodburning stove or venture to the garden room and appreciate the stunning countryside views from all-around.

Allow the designated chef to take over the kitchen, dominated by the eight-burner Smeg range incorporating two electric ovens and a grill, along with a large granite worktop for preparing meals.

The large family table is where you can enjoy mealtimes together, or take the evening outside and dine alfresco style from the patio furniture.

Upstairs rest the bedrooms, housing two large en-suite rooms, both with king-size beds and one with a child’s bed, plus there is a smaller en-suite double room.

The final bedroom is a bunk room resting on the ground-floor perfect for the little ones.

When you're ready for a little more relaxation, make your way to the shared pool room, where you can revitalise with a reviving sauna session, before dipping into the hot tub and soaking your tired legs.

There are several country walks leading from the house that allow you to explore the picturesque surroundings; take the stiff and challenging climb up to the Iron Age Hill Fort atop Norton Malreward which offers spectacular views or meander along the footpath at the end of the driveway to stroll along the River Chew.

The local village of Pensford is home to a traditional pub, The Rising Sun, along with a Post Office and village store where you can restock the essentials.

Visit the Chew Valley sailing lake, reservoir, and bird reserve, also boasting easy access to both Cheddar and Glastonbury, while Street and the famous Clarks’ Outlet Village is within driving distance too.

For a change of scenery, the beautiful city of Bath is well-worth a visit, home to the stunning Abbey, thermal spas, and a range of shopping facilities.
