The town of Killaloe in County Clare, once the capital of Ireland is situated at the southern point of Lough Derg. This historic town offers visitors a 13th century cathedral, narrow streets, old world shops, which are situated along a steep hill, as well as pubs, restaurants and a weekly farmers’ market. Accessed via a bridge over the Lough is the town of Ballina in County Tipperary, from where you will find a marina, watersports, pubs and restaurants. Also both towns hold the Brian Boru Festival in June or July, which celebrates the life of the High King which united Ireland against the Vikings - the festival offers fun for all the family. Fishing, boat trips, walking and a round of golf can all be enjoyed nearby, and the city of Limerick has a host of attractions, eateries and shops.
