  • "We had a good week at the property and luckily for the most part, our weather was great."

The house was just lovely. Just a cosy but spacious place for a family of 6. In particular, we loved the fireplace, the comfy sofas, the large kitchen and the rain shower (the bathroom in general) There was plenty of everything and so many personal touches which I really liked, so like a home from home, which is quite unusual in a holiday cottage. Bin bags, dishwasher tabs and loo roll and many other items aren’t skimped on, which is also great. The hand soaps were stunning. Unfortunately we had a note left that the washing machine wasn’t working. I’m not going to lie, this was a real inconvenience, however the owner had said if we needed any washings done then she would do them. Think she was sorry she offered as we needed a few loads done but we did appreciate that! We then hung them to dry on the massive drying rack kept outdoors. The garden. We loved the garden, its massive, a mixture of grass and paving, however, it needs to be mentioned that this garden is not enclosed. Certainly not enclosed by our experiences over years of hiring cottages with Sykes and elsewhere. The back fence reached my thigh, and there is a massive gap in between the fence frame. There were also gaps in the hedge which backs on to the golf course. We have a Doberman and she’s an eejit, she has no recall, she’s been knocked down, hence how essential a proper enclosed garden is. We had to block one end of the garden with our car and chairs at each end of the car and also block the other end using a table, a bench, and more chairs. It was stressful and the dog couldn’t be out by herself. A great space, absolutely, but not enclosed. However, she did love the running about when she was out when we secured (mostly) it. Do be mindful though if this matters to you. The midgies - these things love me. There is a lot. So bring a spray and close any windows after your dinner to avoid them coming in the house. We learnt our lesson after one night! Location - being right on the golf course has its pros and cons. Nice open views, no neighbours overlooking, however, almost every day there were cars parked right outside the bedroom window, twice the people didn’t come back until after 10pm, then hanging about a while. Just means you need to make sure you’re not kicking about with your bra on!! It also meant our dog would bark at them through the window. Literally because they’re hanging about sorting clubs and loading their cars rather than just walking by going to the actual car park where to be fair, most people did park. Again, just incase this was an issue for anyone. Omagh itself is nice, we went to the town and went to see the memorial. We went to Todd’s Leap. That was brilliant, however, for us, there wasn’t much more to do, so everything for us was travelling a good distance, and a few of those days were boiling, so we just stayed at the cottage and made use of the garden. Communication with the owner was great. Always a reply when needed, and pre travel too. I was slightly aggrieved the evening before we left asking what time we would be leaving, and when replying 10am, I am told that 10am would be okay but that other people will be checking in that day, so the she would be at 10am to start housekeeping. Felt like I was being chastised. All that was needed was a simple reminder that checkout is 10am. I will likely never be in a position to leave before 10am, it’s early and it is the actual official checkout time so there should never be an expectation that families should leave before then. Over 20 cottages over the years with the kids and I’ve never stayed by the checkout time in any of them. However, it was maybe just a query and I’ve took it the wrong way. The owner did reply a few hours afterwards saying that should she not have guests the following day then we could’ve stayed a bit later due to our ferry being cancelled. Which was nice. Overall. We had a great week. The cottage was lovely. I don’t know if I’d be able to return but just because of the dog. Would I recommend it? Defo! Thanks for having us.

Hi Leanne. Thank you so much for your kind review and detailed feedback - I’m sure it will be really useful for other guests to consider when deciding to book. The washing machine has been a bit of a pain and apologies again for that. We were happy to get all your loads done though and were blessed with the good drying weather that day. I’m so glad that you found the cottage like a home from home and appreciated all the extra things we put in to make it comfortable for guests. You and your family looked after the cottage so well. It was clean and in good shape when you left it. We appreciate that. Thank you. We have taken on board your comments about check out information. Our message was just a reminder and definitely in no way a chastisement. It takes about 5 hours for the housekeeper to make up all the beds and throughly clean and check the house ready for the next guests. If we can accommodate a later check out time, then we do on request. It’s difficult to manage that though when we have new guests checking in later that day. Omagh is a good centre for visiting lots of places and I’m glad you got out and about. Thank you again and we hope to be able to welcome you back again at some stage, as a loyal Sykes customer. With very best wishes, Louise Property Owner
