  • "Overall, the lodge was okay and suited our needs as we were out exploring most of the time."

However, if we’d planned to spend more time in the lodge, I think some of the issues would have been more noticeable. The cleanliness could definitely be improved. The floors were very dirty (you couldn’t wear white socks without them getting filthy), there was thick dust in places, and the balcony was covered in cobwebs, which was disappointing for the summer season. The lodge generally looked quite tired and in need of a spruce up. Some of the doors didn’t close properly, door shelf missing from the fridge, the bathroom walls appeared to have mould on them, and there was very little storage or shelving. The lodge was also incredibly hot when we arrived. The thermostat was reading 32°C, and it was such a sweatbox that we had to sit in the car with the air conditioning on while it cooled down. The bed was comfortable, and the lodge had Wi-Fi and a TV, but the kitchen was missing some basic essentials. There were no scissors, and the knives were so blunt that they made food preparation difficult. There were some really thoughtful touches that we appreciated. The dog bed, bowl, tennis ball and treats were a lovely surprise (although it would have been useful to know in advance as we’d packed our own). The milk, coffee and biscuits left for us were also a very welcome touch. The holiday park itself is in a beautiful location, and the on-site restaurant was excellent, with great food and friendly staff. These were definite highlights of our stay. Overall, we felt the accommodation was quite expensive for what we received. We’d happily return to the area, and even to the holiday park itself, but we’d hope to see the lodges given a good deep clean and some general maintenance and updating before booking again.

  • "I booked for a pod, these were being renovated, so I was put in a one bedroom lodge."

Great accommodation, hot tub lovely. Could have done with a new sofa. Otherwise cosy and perfect. Could have done with a bit extra info on onsite facilities, eh opening times and menu of on site 'pub:. Don't publish my name, I don't give permission for that.

Thank you for your review and feedback - we're pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the lodge upgrade worked well for you. It's great to know you found the accommodation comfortable and clean and that you enjoyed using the hot tub. Thank you for your feedback, it is valuable in order to help us to continue to improve in the future. We're glad you had a great stay overall and hope to welcome you back again in the future. PENRITH

Keswick 17 miles; Carlisle 20 miles.

The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District, the Westmoorland Dales and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle, Brougham Hall (The Windsor of the North), Lowther Castle and Gardens, Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
