  • "Tom, Rose & baby Hazel made us feel very welcome."

It was a joy to spend time on their farm. Accommodation was well appointed, spotlessly clean & in a great location for exploring Somerset. Highly recommended The Hatch & The Bell - both very welcoming & reasonably priced wholesome food.

Peaceful and relaxing countryside location. Tom and Rose are wonderful hosts and very informative. A good base from which to explore the surrounding area, this was our second visit so highly recommend it.

  • "A wonderful place to relax and wind down."

The owners. Tom and Rose are very good and informative. There are many walks in the area to be had. This is a working stock holding with sheep and horses. So follow the country code and all will be well. I can recommend The Stables as a place to stay in a typical Somerset country setting, narrow hedge lined single track roads are part of the experience. As is the Cider. Slow down and enjoy it.

  • "We thought that The Stables was beautifully finished and presented, and equipped with everything we could need."

The combi oven was a great space saving idea. Everything being on one level was ideal for accessibility, and we could appreciate that there were some lovely walking opportunities in the immediate area. Wonderfully quiet location and we enjoying seeing and hearing the sheep and chickens from the window. Rose and Tom were great hosts and we'd recommend The Stables for anyone who enjoys the countryside, with some good National Trust properties close by too.

Owners were brilliant. Hand feeding the sheep was a great experience. Staying on a working farm and being able to appreciate the ambience was a great experience especially coming from a city. The walks around the property were relaxing, the animals friendly and the accommodation comfortable and clean. Opening the bedroom blind in the morning to see the cutest sheep ever walking by in the adjacent field was wonderful. Truly memorable.

  • "The Stables was a great location for our young family."

Our sons loved being able to run outdoors and see all the farm animals. Tom and Rose were most welcoming and helpful. They have a great set up and The Stables is a very comfortable and well equipped place. We cooked and ate at The Stables each day and there was everything needed in the kitchen to facilitate that. The living/dining room area was light and spacious. The bathroom was large and had a separate bath and shower. The bedrooms were large and storage space for clothes generous. The beds were comfortable and very clean. We were very comfortable in the setting overall as it had everything we needed. Games, books and dvds were an added bonus. It was lovely to have fresh eggs and milk in the kitchen upon arrival and the milkman delivery facility available during our stay. We were secluded enough to not hear any noise other than the farm animals which we loved. We really relaxed and enjoyed family time during the week; cycling in the area and visiting local areas and even did a spot of shopping at Clark's Village outlet which is not far. There are local farms down the road that have strawberries, eggs, bread and cider available on 'honesty box' system. This place is highly recommended for all the right reasons.

  • "The Stables is an excellent place to stay in very tranquil surroundings."

The accommodation was very clean, with everything you need for a pleasant stay. To greet us on arrival was a bottle of milk and eggs fresh from their own hens. The bathroom is sheer luxury, to include lovely toiletries. The hosts were exceedingly accommodating, with even time to show us the animals on the farm. Waking up to the sound of the animals in the morning was a sheer delight. The property is easily accessible for local walks, with a picnic area in the orchard. Would truly recommend The Stables as a fantastic place to stay and will definitely be going back. M & P

  • "We enjoyed our stay very much, loved all the animals etc."

It does not bother us personally, but for the price charged, people expect a dish washer and washing machine, and all the other places we have stayed have their own little sitting area, not behind your car in the drive!! The main thing about the stables, again it did not bother us, but a lot of people would not like going through someones bedroom, to get to theirs.

The property

The Stables is a charming ground-floor barn conversion resting among far-reaching, lush fields in the gorgeous countryside area of Beercrocombe in Somerset, lying on the owner's working farm – perfect for a family of four! Approached via a sweeping driveway, Beer Mill Farm dates back over 350 years and was originally a water-driven corn mill, powered by the River Fivehead which still runs through the property.

The Stables stands adjacent to the farmhouse, and has been lovingly converted with amazing character shown throughout its traditional décor.

Unpack your bags in one of the two pretty bedrooms, a twin and a king-size, both beautifully decorated with ample storage and space for all your belongings, before making your way to the lovely open-plan living area with its toasty underfloor heating, high ceilings, exposed beams and sloped eaves.

The well-equipped kitchen, fitted with a fabulous breakfast bar, electric oven, hob, and fridge/freezer, is the perfect place to rustle up breakfast before heading out to explore the farm and surrounding countryside.

Beer Mill Farm is crossed by two public footpaths, from which one can explore the local area and take in the sights of the Somerset countryside.

Wander through the fields toward the village, with its beautiful church, on your way to one of the local pubs in the nearby villages of Hatch Beauchamp and Curry Mallet, or explore the historic farmstead and soak up its picturesque setting.

The farm is awash with history - The long-derelict Chard Canal, now reclaimed by nature but still recognisable, borders the property and is accessible at several points from the farm.

Look carefully and you can also see the remnants of the Second World War Taunton Stop Line, whose anti-tank blocks still stand guard.

Spend time taking in the lovely wildlife, from the frequent birds of prey to the occasional starling murmuration if the season is right, and if you’re up early you could also be lucky enough to see one of the many deer, and if it’s raining you might even see the semi-resident Heron on the water!

You can also walk over to the owners’ working farm with its rare breed sheep, meet the friendly lambs, and perhaps purchase some home-reared meat for your cooking.

Back at The Stables you can prepare a family meal to enjoy in the quaint dining area, talking about the day with your loved ones before settling down in the welcoming sitting area - there's even a barbecue to be used on a hot summer's day!

Spend the evening snuggling in for a movie, cosying up with a fluffy blanket on the plush sofa as you decide on a film, or take a night-time walk and enjoy stargazing with your other half under a clear night sky.

The next morning you can decide on a luxurious morning soak in the large bath-tub, or a brisk soapy shower in the sleek bathroom, featuring tiled walls and a heated towel rail.

This property is the perfect base from which to explore the beautiful surroundings of Somerset, Devon and Dorset, with attractive towns and villages including Ilminster, Exeter, Langport and Somerton all nearby.

Discover the pretty village of North Curry, boasting peaceful walking routes which offer a tour around the area, with sites such as the historic 14th century Cathedral of the Moors.

Take a short drive over to the vibrant town centre of Taunton for a spot of shopping at a wealth of independent retailers, exploring heaps of cultural attractions including an arts centre, theatre, and The Museum of Somerset, as well as amazing local produce provided at a selection of local restaurants.

Pack your walking boots and head on an adventure with a great choice of walking or cycling trails, taking your pick from the picturesque Quantock Hills AONB to the South West’s cycling network with amazing routes such as a tranquil journey from Chard to Ilminster.

Other must-see spots in this stunning corner of England are the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, the famous town of Glastonbury, National Trust site Barrington Court, or the RSPB site Swell Wood Nature Reserve, which is just up the road.

Choose The Stables as your perfect holiday destination, tucked away among surrounding views of the Somerset countryside.

Equestrian lets are also available at Beer Mill Farm, with stabling for your own horse and parking for your lorry both available - please contact the owner to discuss.

There is hacking in the local area, a 60m x 30m arena on the property, as well as easy access to both Pontispool and Chard Equestrian.

For those bringing their own horses, lessons are also available by arrangement with the owner, who is a BE, BS and BHS-accredited coach.

Enjoying a central position between the north and south coasts of the South West peninsula, the small village of North Curry rests in Somerset, just east of the county town of Taunton. Since the 13th century, North Curry has been a market village, earning wealth from hunting, fishing and the wool trade, and it is still home to several historic buildings like the Church of St Peter and St Paul, nicknamed 'The Cathedral of the Moors', now a Grade I listed building dating from the 14th century. In the centre of the village on Queen Square you can find the Post Office and general village store where you can pick up all the essentials you need, with a pub across the way providing a perfect spot to enjoy a well-earned pint. Take a steam train ride to the seaside on the West Somerset Railway. Explore the myth and magic of King Arthur at Glastonbury’s Abbey and Tor. Shop till you drop at Clarks Village. Spend a day in Lyme Regis, 'The Pearl of Dorset' on the Jurassic Coast. Head north to the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for walking and cycling routes in this unspoilt area, or south to the Blackdown Hills AONB. Venture westwards for day trips to the rugged coasts, surfing beaches, fishing villages and moorlands of Devon and Cornwall. Relax and unwind in the Georgian splendour of Bath, with its Roman spa. North Curry is a delightful place to settle for a Somerset sojourn.
