  • "This is a very well appointed cottage with modern fixtures & fittings, and beautifully decorated."

    The kitchen is at the front i.e. road side, and the lounge at the back, facing South so lots of light and sunshine. The heating is adjustable thermostatically controlled radiators. The only drawback is that they tend to click on & off, which can be disturbing at night. The bigger bed/room is at the front so some minor road noise in the mornings. The local pub is next door (through the wall) so some noise can be heard if lots of people. Good food reasonably priced - but not open Mondays & Tuesdays. Well equipped PO/shop. Lovely old church. Parking arrangements/position required were a little unclear, but as we were the only car it wasn't an issue. Care needs to be taken when driving over the metal grille drain cover as it is quite low compared with the ground level. Other than that, a very pleasant place to stay.

    Amazing views as soon as you walk through the door the cottage has everything you need for your stay and the shower was great perfect for our week away the only down side was its right next to a pub and the pub was very loud on friday night but apart from that its was superb

  • "A really enjoyable stay and welcoming community, especially in The George!"

    The house was very comfortable. However there seems to be an issue with the log burner as smoke escaped into the room. Also the lighting downstairs was often flickering a lot, and the bathroom cabinet.

  • "A lovely holiday cottage, can’t fault it."

    Exceptional views and friendly village. This was my second trip this year so that says it all. On a wet day it was a comfort to light the wood burner. No noise from the pub next door at all, and they serve an outstanding Sunday roast.

  • "Lovely property."

    Only comments was on arrival the street was very busy and we had no idea where carpark was. Spent 10 mins going up and down road until by chance someone walking up the road could tell us. Better communication on how to locate would be good. Also as we turned down the parking access there was a really bad pot hole to avoid. Garden was lovely but a little shabby looking and hated artificial grass for such a lovely location.

  • "This was a great cottage had everything that we needed, great views, we are older people and had some difficulty with opening the French doors the lock could be awkward, but that is minor problem did not effect the overall enjoyment of our holiday."

  • "One of the best properties we have stayed in."

    The property was a great place to stay and was close to attractions and the seaside. Would recommend this property to anybody wishing to stay in South Devon. The property is next door to The George Pub but that to me was a bonus. Only small downside is the private area to park which can be a little tight. We parked opposite to the property on the rod most of the time.

Oakleigh and Poppy Cottage are a pairing of wonderful holiday homes in Blackawton, Devon. Start off by exploring the village of Blackawton, with The George Inn pub just next door for your evening tipple, which is a friendly village with a community-run shop and historic church. Blackawton hosts an annual worm charming festival in May which is fun for all the family, including the furry members of the family with a “for fun” dog show. Blackawton is also locally renowned for its terrific bonfire and fireworks night in November. Poppy Cottage is well situated for Dartmouth’s annual events, such as the music festival in May, the Royal Regatta in August, and comedy & food festivals in October. Blackawton and the surrounding hamlets and villages are well placed for a tranquil South Devon break. In easy reach of Dartmouth and the beaches of Start Bay, the location offers a delightful balance between seclusion and convenience, with a wealth of picturesque walks, welcoming local pubs and more on your doorstep. In the centre of the village on Main Street, the 14th century Parish Church of St Michael completes the setting whole-heartedly. The George Inn is a family-run pub in the heart of the village. Situated across from the church, this dog-friendly inn backs onto some beautiful South Hams countryside, and there are outside tables where you can relax and take in the scenery.
