  • "We stayed at Dexter Lodge in Devon for three days and had a mixed experience."

The negatives: -The place was quite dusty, and there was mould in the bedroom and bathroom, which made it difficult to breathe on the first night. -The bedsheets were stained, looking either not properly washed or very worn. -There are very few plug sockets around the house, which made charging devices inconvenient. -The shower door didn’t open properly, and only one toilet roll was provided for three people for a three-day stay. The positives: -The furniture is comfortable, and the house is generally well furnished and equipped. -The shower pressure and water temperature were both excellent. -The view from the lodge is absolutely stunning, making it a lovely spot to relax and unwind. -The owner was responsive and quick to address issues after we raised our concerns about the mould and dust. Overall: Dexter Lodge has a lot of potential — it’s a lovely, well-furnished space with beautiful views and a responsive host — but the cleaning standards between guest turnovers need significant improvement. If that’s addressed, it could be a great place to stay.

Thank you so much for your constructive feedback. Im pleased our housekeeping team responded to you straight away. But I'm so sorry you had to witness the issue of poor cleaning as we did have a serious problem with a member of the cleaning team. You should know that for each bed there are three new sets of bedding so there was no excuse for dirty bed linen just a lazy team member.. Thanks to your feedback, that issue has now been resolved and plans are in place to add more electrical sockets now the main season is over. Property Owner

  • "Great site with views of the sea."

I would certainly recommend Dexter's Lodge. But the only downside to it was the space for the toilet. A slightly smaller shower cubicle would help as it was very tight. But saying that we would stay there again.

  • "This was a quaint and well appointed cabin."

It was in walking distance of the dry dock and Watermouth Castle. The shower needed a good plunge, as it backed up easily. Otherwise, all was in working order. It was clean on the surface, but needed a good deep cleaning, (mildew on the bathroom ceiling, spiderwebs in the corners, etc.). If you are coming from out of the area, make sure to bring extra toilet paper and groceries. The bus stop is also a good walk uphill if you are not bringing your own vehicle. If this property had been a little cleaner, it would have earned a 10/10.

  • "The light outside the property on an out building is so bright it’s like day light on the evening and the curtains do not help to block this out."

Only two plugs available in the kitchen and if you want to use more than two items you have to wait and unplug and move appliances around which is t practical . (Microwave toaster kettle coffee machine air fryer) If all parking spaces are used it’s very tight to park. Shower doesn’t drain did inform the maintenance team as saw them next door. Disappointed the park is closed however did read this in other comments and thought a discount would be given to go into castle unfortunately not.

  • "The lodge hadn't been cleaned."

There were nail clippings on the floor in one of the bedrooms. Hairs on the floor. Hairs on the kitchen tea towel. The lodge itself could be a nice base for a holiday but it was really not clean. I don't think one of the beds had been changed...as we found sea sand and hairs in that too!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, particularly regarding the cleanliness of the lodge. We understand how important a clean and comfortable environment is for a relaxing stay and to this end the lodge is cleaned to a very high standard for every change over. Photographs are then taken of the clean including bedding, floors, kitchen, fridge and logged to ensure high standards are maintained. We do wish we had been made aware of your concerns during your visit, as we would have welcomed the opportunity to address them promptly and ensure your comfort. Unfortunately, no contact was made at the time, and no images have been provided to help us investigate further. We take all feedback seriously so thank you for bringing this to our attention. • "The lodge had everything you needed and is situated in a beautiful spot."

A great base from which to explore the surrounding beaches, bays, walks etc, What stops it being 5 stars is that the furniture was not comfortable inside and out. We were lucky with the weather but there was no outside furnishings that you could really relax in and sunbathe.

Lodge was clean and tidy tv was dismal very poor quality WiFi was terrific air fryer only one side worked Not enough points and no bar or restaurant on site apparently gone into liquidation We had to travel around more because of this We followed travelling instructions which I have to say were of no use at all if only Watermouth castle was mentioned we could have been there two hours earlier Tap was a drip and much louder at night But we enjoyed our break

Thank you for your feedback. Sadly, the TV reception is something we have no control over as the nearest signal comes from Wales. Hence, the excellent wifi so you can use your own pads, laptops, phones etc to watch movies, tv, games. The previous owners of the park have gone into liquidation, but the park, we believe has been sold so we are hopeful the bar and restaurant will be open soon. But I note the description of Dexters Lodge does not include the restaurant and bar as part of the facilities but does mention Watermouth Castle several times. Had you called house keeping the tap and air fryer issues would have been resolved straight away as they have been today after reading your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your break, North Devon is such a beautiful place to visit. Property Owner
