  • "The house is undoubtedly full of character and history, and at first sight it has a great deal of charm."

However, the overall maintenance and level of guest preparation do not fully reflect this, which affects the overall comfort of the stay. What is particularly disappointing is that several of the issues we noticed during our stay had already been raised by previous guests in recent reviews. It therefore appears that these concerns were already known, yet little or nothing has been done to address them. There was no welcome pack on arrival, and although a coffee machine is provided, the required pods were not available in the immediate area. The house manual is limited and appears to be a bit outdated, with several key practical details missing. In addition, the bins by the road were already completely full when we arrived and, despite remaining there throughout our stay, had still not been emptied by the time we left on Saturday. The general condition of the house suggests that some areas would benefit from more consistent maintenance and attention. Several windows have cracks in the glass, and throughout the house there are many stains, marks and areas of damage on the walls. Although the property is advertised as pet-free, there are cat flaps, and unfortunately I noticed signs that cats had previously been in the room next to the kitchen. As I have a cat allergy, this resulted in allergic symptoms during our stay, which affected my comfort. The bed in the master bedroom was also an issue, as the mattress is of very low quality and the springs can be felt. It became uncomfortable for my wife and me to the point where we needed to swap bedrooms with our children and sleep in their beds instead, which is not in line with expectations for accommodation at this price level. Outside, the garden is significantly overgrown with weeds, with literally thousands of stinging nettles throughout the grounds, which limits the usability of several areas. Our children were stung on multiple occasions. There was also a considerable amount of animal droppings, including rabbit droppings, scattered across the grounds. Overall, the current condition of the garden differs considerably from the attractive and well-maintained impression given by the images in the listing. While the property has clear potential and is set in a very attractive location, the current level of maintenance, cleanliness, and guest preparation did not fully meet our expectations.

  • "Very disappointing."

Apart from the access to the property, we encountered: Cleanliness issues. Missing plaster patches on walls. Light fittings on ceilings coming away. Staining to the kitchen ceiling. Two gas burners not working. Washing machine flooded the floor. Double bed very uncomfortable. Bathroom door didn't shut, making you visible to anyone upstairs. Exposed pipework in the bathroom. Toilet was not fixed securely and felt unstable to use. Shower leaked through the kitchen ceiling, so a family of five could not shower during our stay. Garden areas had not been mown. The only positive was the decked area and the view. We had saved hard to stay here, as the pictures and property looked lovely. We really hope these issues will be fixed, as this would be a lovely cottage

  • "Loved staying at this property."

Our two boys adored all the space in the garden. There are so many positives. However, the “steep driveway” mentioned in the description is a significant understatement. The driveway is not suitable for a normal car after any amount of rain. We had a couple of drizzly days, which made getting back up to the property very tricky and stressful. There was no starter pack for the fire, despite this being stated in the details, so logs had to be purchased separately. The master bedroom would benefit from either a larger bed or at least a better mattress. There is a hair dryer provided in the property, although this isn’t listed in the details. If we had a 4x4, we would return. We would love to stay again during the summer months, as the outside space is amazing. We regularly saw rabbits and pheasants around the property.

  • "Booked this holiday in November property looks lovely from outside but it was a let down getting into the property was a problem when raining the drive was impossible."

You had to turn the heating off to get hot water no downstairs curtains. security camera watching you from outside. The place was not spotless,no welcome pack to tell you where things are & worked. was there for a week left early was not cosy and the property was only lukewarm definitely not a winter holiday place.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your stay did not meet expectations. We appreciate your comments regarding access during poor weather, the heating and hot water system, and the lack of a welcome pack. These points have been noted and are being reviewed to improve the experience for future guests. Cleanliness is very important to us, and we will be addressing this with our housekeeping team. The external security camera is for property security only and does not monitor private areas. We hope to still welcome you again, your Cornish Cottage Holidays Team Property Owner

  • "The house and location were beautiful!"

When we arrived we couldn’t get our vehicle up the steep and long drive, therefore we had to park at the bottom and walk our belongings up. Great exercise but for anyone that struggles with mobility or have young infants I wouldn’t suggest. There was no fire starter pack, therefore we purchased our own. no information provided at the cottage apart from a plaque with the WiFi details on which when I rang actually put me through to the old managing agent, who was very helpful but couldn’t do anything to assist. The property could definitely do with some important information to read on arrival, ref heating, waste and how to leave things on exit! The current managing agent finally called me back on Wednesday late afternoon, after I had left a message on Saturday evening. All in all, the house is beautiful, very comfortable with stunning scenery. Just needs some extra loving care and fine tuning. The area is gorgeous, we visited carnglaze caverns and adrenalin quarry which we all really enjoyed. Lovely owl noises of an evening and incredible stars on clear nights.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful house, stunning scenery, and the local attractions—it sounds like you made the most of your stay. We truly appreciate your comments regarding the steep driveway, the fire starter pack, and the information guide. The recent period of unusually heavy rain made the driveway more challenging than usual, and we’re sorry this caused inconvenience. We’ll review options to make this clearer for future guests. Regarding the welcome pack, it was available in the property, but we’ll ensure it’s placed in a more prominent spot so it’s easy to find on arrival. Your suggestion about clearer instructions for heating, waste disposal, and check-out is very helpful, and we’ll work on improving this. We’re also sorry for the delay in communication and any inconvenience this caused. Thank you for your patience and understanding. It’s wonderful to know you enjoyed the owl calls and starry nights—those are some of the magical touches of the area! We hope to welcome you back again soon, with an even smoother experience.
